"Sanity and happiness are an impossible combination."- Mark Twain

Raava's POV

I sighed as I continued with my paperwork. A couple of days ago Hotch had come to see me and saying he was upset would be putting it lightly. He was cursing left and right, telling me what had happened and how his wife had been hurt. I didn't understand how Asami had managed to hurt Korra. They were best friends, almost sisters. The younger agent always talked about how she wouldn't be alive now if it wasn't for her.

I heard the door open and I looked up, surprised. "Korra? You should be resting."

She didn't answer at first and I saw her wince slightly as she sat down, maneuvering the toddler in her lap so that she was sitting down as well. I stood and went to sit across from her as she took out her inhaler, giving it a puff.

"He already told you, didn't he?" she asked as she put the inhaler away.

I sighed, clasping my hands together. "He said you were hurt by your best friend."

"Is that all he said?"

"I'm not going to repeat everything. Mako was...upset to say the least." I paused. "Can I hold her?" Korra nodded her permission and I took the child from her arms chuckling when she went to grab my glasses. She was a live one, that was for sure. "She looks just like Hotch, but I see hints of you in her. Where's Jack?"

"Jack is with his aunt. I was alone with her and I just...I couldn't be in the house."

"He's going to get worried."

A half-hearted scoff. "Hotch isn't talking to me." I could tell by the tone of her voice that it hurt her. Didn't he realize what he was doing to her?

"Maybe not, but he still worries," I replied. Becca fussed and I handed her a teddy bear I had on my desk, watching as she entertained herself with it. "Korra, I may not be a doctor, not that kind anyway, but even I know that with your injuries you shouldn't be out of bed."

She had been gripping her side for some time now and I could recall Hotch saying something about stitches. If she ripped them out...

"I just needed someone to talk to."

She sounded desperate and I couldn't exactly blame her. So I nodded, giving her my full attention. "Okay, lets talk."

"How-how do you come to terms with your best friend, the person that protected you, the one that kept the nightmares at bay...nearly beating you to death?"

I saw tears begin to fall and I could only imagine what she felt. The one person that had been there for her, protected her, nearly killed her. It was a lot to wrap around your head around. Even I was having a hard time.

"The person who protected me for the majority of my life, and the person who did this to me, I can't reconcile them," the brunet choked out. "The pieces don't fit. I get to thinking about it, about how her eyes were completely empty and I feel like vomiting. She's the only person could count on to have my back no matter the situation... I'm so confused. I'm so lost.

The agent sobbed full-heartedly, her hands covering her face. I shifted Becca in my arms so I could reach out and place a hand on her mother's thigh, letting her know I was there.

"I'm sorry," she said after a moment standing up. "I should probably get back."

I nodded my head and stood as well before something caught my attention. My eyes widened and Korra looked down to her torso as blood stained her shirt. She tried to sit back down but fell on the floor causing Becca to wail, the sight startling the toddler.

Moments later I was at the hospital, waiting for Hotch to get there. Jessica had called Korra's cellphone to ask where she was and I let her know of the situation. Hotch was in the Earth Kingdom wrapping up a case but when he heard of his wife's condition he immediately headed back.

"What the hell was she doing with you?" he practically growled when he arrived.

"Being with someone who won't talk to you is lonelier than being alone, Hotch." He knew this, he'd been there.

"That still doesn't answer my question. "

Oh that did it.

"Oh you want me to answer your question?" I asked before handing Becca over to her aunt. "Your wife is in as much emotional pain as she is physical and you can't get your head out of your ass for a second to see it."

"Raava-"

"Shut up. I'm talking," I replied cutting him off. I was going to give him a piece of my mind. "You wanted answers now you're getting them. Do you have any idea how she feels? Her best friend, the one person that has kept her alive almost killed her and her husband won't talk to her." He didn't say anything but I knew he was listening. "Was it irresponsible for her to out herself in that situation, yes. Maybe even a little insane, but not stupid. She was trying to help her friend. Just like I helped you when Hailey died."

He seemed to be forgetting this. Hotch knew what isolation after a traumatic event could do. Korra had come a long way and I was not going to let him ruin it.

He opened his mouth to speak. "But-"

"Shut up, I'm not finished." It was my turn to talk, to out him in his place. He needed to understand that what he was doing was wrong. "She wants to talk about what she feels, isn't that what you wanted? Didn't you want her to open up to you?" His gaze lowered. It was he who had referred her to me. It was him that wanted her to get help. "Well now that she's doing it you aren't even listening. Yes, she tore up her stitches to see me, when in reality she wanted to see you," I continued. "She needs your comfort, so either give it or stay out of the way."

Hotch crossed his arm, a defensive gesture but nodded his head before going to speak to the doctor. It was about time someone put him in his place. He wasn't helping Korra and if he didn't support her...things could go south really quickly.

Mako's POV

I could have handled things differently.

When I'd first heard Korra was with the therapist and had ripped her stitches I had been furious. She had been warned that she wouldn't be able to do a lot of things but she was the most stubborn person I had ever met.

I had arrived at the hospital, ready to tell my wife how stupid and foolish her actions had been when Raava intercepted me. Now that I was more calm I knew I had to try and be more supportive.

The doctor walked over to me and I already knew by the look on his face that it was not good news. He said they hadn't been able to stabilize her and she was running a slight fever. Her breathing was labored but they were monitoring her closely to make sure she didn't have any complications.

"Can I see her?" I asked when he finished.

He hesitated before nodding his head. "Just make sure she doesn't force herself."

I nodded and walked over to Jessica, taking my sleeping daughter in my arms before going inside my wife's room. Her eyes were closed and there were all sorts cables attached to her, tubes under her nose. I sat down and Korra's eyes opened halfway, her tired gaze meeting mine. I reached out and placed my hand over hers giving it a gentle squeeze.

"Rest, I'm right here," I told her gently.

She shook her head, trying to make room on the bed. I sighed but lay down next to her, placing Becca between us. I kissed Korra's temple, making sure she was comfortable as her eyes closed. I must have drifted off as well because I woke up when I felt a hand on my shoulder. It was the doctor, telling me that my wife's vitals had stabilized and the fever was gone. I smiled at that, thanking him before kissing Korra's cheek.

For the next couple of days I practically lived in the hospital. Going straight from work to the hospital to spend time with my wife. She was already doing much better but there was still in some pain. Jessica was with her when I was gone and cared for the kids. I arrived to find my girls alone, my wife playing with the toddler.

"Where's Jack and Jessica?" I asked after giving her a kiss.

"She took Jack out for some ice cream."

"How are you feeling?"

"A little tired," she answered leaning against the pillows.

I nodded grinning at my daughter before bathing her in kisses causing her to squeal. Korra chuckled and I did the same, giving her a chaste kiss. She glanced towards the door and I looked, giving Raava a small smile.

"How are you doing, Korra?"

"A lot better, thank you."

I smiled and updated her on my wife's status when another person stepped inside. My eyes narrowed and I took Becca in my arms going to the foot of the bed so the intruder wouldn't come any closer. How dare she.

"I just ran into Jessica and she told me what happened," the tech began. "Are you-is she-"

"Leave Asami, or Spirits help me."

There was a flash of fear in her eyes and she knew I meant it. I had already threatened to arrest her before. I wouldn't hesitate in doing so. She knew that.

"Mako..." I turned to look at my wife, her eyes pleading for me not to be cruel.

"I'll just be a moment," Asami added.

I shook my head. "No. Leave, please." She knew it wasn't possible. That she shouldn't be here. "Please. Don't make it harder than it has to be," I added looking at my wife. "I'm sorry. I'm protecting my family."

"She's my family too... She's all I have left..."

"Mrs. Sato, I think it would be best of you left for now," Raava interjected, seeing Asami's face fall. "Just for now."

The heiress nodded, wiping her tears away as she turned to leave. Raava reached for Becca and I handed my daughter over before sitting on the bed next to my wife, wiping away the tears.

"I'm sorry," I said quietly. "But Asami being close to you...it puts me on edge."

"She's my best friend."

"She hurt you." I was trying to stay calm, I really was but just remembering how she looked when I arrived... "You have to understand that I'm trying to protect you."

"I do," Korra replied. "But what if, what if she gets help?"

"Korra-"

"Just give her this chance. Please."

Her blue eyes were pleading, almost begging for me to listen. I sighed and reluctantly nodded my head. She smiled at me and I laid back down wrapping an arm around her, nuzzling her head against my shoulder. Therapy wouldn't change what she did, but it could help. Korra and I were living proof of it. I just hoped it wasn't too late for her.

Tenzin's POV

After her revelation about being the one responsible for Unalaq's death regular sessions had been scheduled. It was surprising that a woman like Asami could be capable of such horrors. The heiress seemed and was described as being a woman of high tolerance and a calm nature. Now I knew the kind of demons she carried around.

For the last couple sessions all she had done was talk about Korra, briefly mentioning her separation from her husband, the incident with the brunette, and her leave of absence from her job. At first I didn't think much of it, knowing she must be feeling guilty about what had happened but then I began to notice that the way she spoke, the lilt in her voice that betrayed more than she realized.

"What are your feelings towards Korra?" I finally asked.

Asami blinked, crossing one leg over the other and leaning against the couch. "I love her." She said it as a fact, as if it could not be disputed.

I hummed. "What kind of love is it?"

Her brow furrowed. "What do you mean?"

"There are different kinds of love," I began. "There's love for a sibling, a friend, a-"

"She's almost a sister to me," she said, with far less conviction. "I care about her."

Defensive. She knew what I was getting at. What I was implying. If I was going to help her she needed to confront some things. She needed to realize what the problem was. What had led her down this slippery slope.

"Korra seems more like an obsession to me."

Asami's eyes narrowed and she opened her mouth to speak but closed it. She knew. She'd admitted it to herself. Now I just needed her to admit it out loud.

"Can we talk about something else?" she asked quietly.

I sighed but nodded. We still had a long road ahead of us.

Raava's POV

I sighed as I watched both mother and daughter sleep. Korra had been home for a couple of days after spending a week in the hospital but she still wasn't completely herself yet. There was still some pain and the doctors had found some bruising on her organs, but nothing that would cause any complications.

She had taken a painkiller after Becca accidentally kicked her in the stitches. Shortly after she grew drowsy and so did the toddler and now they were both sleeping which was good, given who was coming.

I knew if Hotch found out he'd be furious though I was still working on him letting his wife talk to her best friend. The bedroom door opened and the heiress walked in, smiling softly when she noticed Korra was sound asleep. I had promised her I'd let her see Korra after the hospital incident but I didn't want the younger agent to be awake and aware for what we were going to talk about.

"How is she?" Asami asked quietly, sitting on the bed and pulling up the covers.

"Still some discomfort but for the most part a lot better," I answered. "She had to take a painkiller so she won't be waking up soon."

"Thank you for doing this."

I nodded, clasping my hands together. "Mrs. Sato, aside from allowing you to see Korra, there was also something I wanted to discuss with you."

The heiress didn't reply, nodding her head once but her attention completely on her girls.

"I know about your feelings for Korra."

Her head snapped up in my direction so quick I'm surprised she didn't get whiplash, a look of surprise on her face but there was also a hint of fear. She didn't want anyone to know.

"How...how did you..."

"I'm an observer, it's what I do," I replied. "But the look you gave her in the hospital was the same look Hotch gives her. You're in love with her."

The heiress bit her lip, putting a hand over the brunette's. I think more for her comfort than anything else. "I always took care of Korra. I...I was her world for a long time but now..." She shook her head. "Now she has her own family. She doesn't need me anymore and I can't let go."

"Asami, I want to make this very clear to you," I said. "Korra is married, and you are too. She is happily married."

She had to understand this. There was a chance that she had just recently figured out her feelings towards the younger agent but unfortunately that no longer mattered. Korra had her own life, a happy life. She could not shatter what had taken years to accomplish.

"I know." Of course she did, and I could hear the hurt in her voice.

"They're arguing all the time and it's over one subject: you. Korra is stressed, as is Mako," I continued. "I know that he can be difficult but he has a right to be protective." She nodded her head and I allowed the information to sink in. "Maybe you need to wait until things cool off and give yourself time to think."

Asami turned to look at me. "What are you saying?"

"That maybe some time apart will be good for you both."

I watched as tears began to fall and she quickly wiped them away, her free hand brushing a strand of hair away from Korra's face. It wasn't easy for me to do this but I knew how dangerous obsessions could become, I'd had long list of patients to prove it. Not to mention that the younger woman's safety was also a concern. Asami had lost control once, she could easily do it again. And given her track record...

"Maybe if I would have told her how I felt when we were younger...maybe..."

"Would she had been truly happy? Or would you have simply been the safest choice?" I asked. Asami didn't say anything in response. "Korra is happy now, with her husband. If you really do love her, that will be enough."

She nodded her head, reaching down to give both mother and daughter a kiss on the head before standing up.

"You also know about-"

"Yes."

"And you aren't afraid of me?"

"I don't think you're a bad person, Mrs. Sato," I told her honestly. I really didn't. "But I do think you need to sort some issues out and I hope you're getting help."

She nodded her head. "I am." A pause. "Thank you."

"I'll keep talking to Hotch to allow phone calls at the very least," I assured her as I led her to the door. "But you need to do your part as well."

She smiled and nodded. "Tenzin is my therapist. You can tell Hotch that."

I waved goodbye and shut the door letting out a long sigh. I hoped it was not to late for her. I really did.
