Chapter 26
Last time on; Was it Fate or Destiny?:
"I know what you're doing." Sting whispered to Meredy
"It's too fan." Meredy whispered back
"Stop it before Mr. King takes notice." Sting warned her
"Fine, you know I'm so glad that you're feeling better than you usually feel on today."
"Me too, I think I'll see her grave after this though."
"I'll come with you."
"I don't mind."
They smiled at each other and turned back to eating their food. No one heard and no one noticed except Lucy. Diner went on anyway and was having a fun time even Jude was smiling.
By now they had finished dinner and had moved to the next room, which was one of the sitting rooms. However Jude and Mr King had moved on to Jude's study to talk privately and Rufus was told to join them leaving Yukino alone with Lucy. Sting and Meredy along with Loke and Aries were all talking together enjoying themselves while Yukino and Lucy sat in the corner of the room talking quietly to each other.
Lucy hadn't yet spoken to Sting at all throughout the entire night, she was too busy mentally killing Meredy in her mind to actually walk up and start a conversation and even if she did walk up to him, she knew that she would only start asking jealous girlfriend questions. She had to remind herself that she wasn't his girlfriend and at this rate with how his all buddy, buddy with the Meredy chick she never would be. At least that's what she thought.
"You could always go up and talk to him." Yukino said to Lucy
"He seems preoccupied." Lucy said
"Come on you guys are friends, go and mingle." Yukino pushed her
"What about you?" Lucy asked almost considering it
"I'll be fine, besides I should probably join Rufus soon," Yukino said "I'm pretty sure his having a hard time talking with your father and all."
"He most likely is." Lucy smiled but she didn't move up or make any attempt to stand.
Yukino looked at her and sighed before standing up and walking towards Jude's study she had said what she needed to say they was nothing more she could do.
Lucy left alone now looked over at Meredy one more time and this time they made eye contact. Meredy gave her a smile but it wasn't a friendly one that said 'Come join us' it was the type of smile that clearly stated 'You don't have a chance'. Lucy just gave a 'whatever' smile back before she stood up and walked towards the balcony, feeling the need for air so she could at least try to clear her head.
Aries stood there by Loke's side smiling and nodding and joining in the conversation with Sting and Meredy but she felt out of place. She knew that the three of them had history and a connection that was deep but she didn't mind as long as Meredy didn't ley a hand on her Loke she was cool with her but she was disgusted with how Meredy was with Sting all of a sudden. She had noticed Lucy looking over at them tones of times but they never made eye contact because she was too busy looking at Sting and Meredy. She had noticed what had happened a few seconds ago between the two females and decided that she needed some fresh air as well.
"I'm going to go for a bit of fresh air." She whispered to Loke
"Are you feeling ok?" Loke asked
"Yeah, it's just that Meredy's voice is kind of annoying me." Aries said this one loudly
"Aries-" Loke began
"Why?" Meredy asked Aries looking at her
"Why what?" Aries asked back
"Why do you hate me so much?" Meredy asked
"I don't hate you, I abhor you," Aries told her glaring "I abhor you because you're you."
With that Aries turned away and walked towards the balcony. Meredy stood there looking at her before she turned and walked the other way. Sting sighed and Loke stood shocked.
"I suggest you go after Aries and I'll check on Meredy." Sting said following in her direction
Loke only nodded before getting to glasses of coke and walking slowly towards the balcony because he was thinking of what to say to her.
{At the balcony}
Aries stood next to Lucy looking up at the stars.
"This is quite a dinner." Aries said
"I guess." Lucy spoke
"How's your night going?" Aries asked facing her
"Could be better." Lucy replied
"Meredy?"
"Don't tell Sting but I don't quite like her that much."
"I abhor her."
"Abhor is a really strong word."
"Well I mean it. I mean she's a whore and a bitch."
"I don't really know her so I can't say anything."
"Well I do and trust me you don't want to get to know her at all."
"That's where you're wrong." Loke's voice said from behind them
Aries and Lucy turned to face him. He was still holding the two glasses but his face showed anger and a tiny hint of disgust. Aries tried to smile at him but before she knew it the glasses were on the ground broken and Loke was only 5 cm away from her face with her between his hands.
"You don't know anything about Meredy so don't act like you do," Loke spoke harshly with a demanding voice "all she ever tries to do is talk to you and be nice but you always seem to be a rude snappy little bitch and I never knew you could be this way. If I'm going to be honest, I hate this side of you and sometimes when you bring it out I ask myself why I love you. Each time I ask I feel like a bad person but then you just do it again and again and it kills me because I wonder why I would fall in love with a two face bitch who hates one of my closet friends."
Lucy took that as her queue to leave and Aries just looked at Loke. Not moving and not speaking. Talking it all in before an angry boiled inside of her and she pushed him followed by a slap.
"I'm your girlfriend for fucks sake and you're thinking such things about me," Aries yelled at him "I can't believe you would think that. I give you everything and you give me nothing."
"I moved back here, I went against my father, I made myself an outcast in the business world," Loke yelled back "I did all that for you. I left one of my best friends when he needed me the most for you. What more do you want?"
"I want you to look me in the eye and tell me that Meredy means nothing to you." Aries replied daring him
"I can't do that because Meredy means a lot to me. She's my best friend and if you can't accept her or at least try then I don't know if we're going to work." Loke told her looking her straight in the eye before walking away
Aries stood there for a brief second before she fell to the ground crying now. She didn't mean for it all to come out like that. She didn't want Loke to walk away from her telling her that they weren't going to work. She couldn't however find it in herself to blame Meredy for all of this, this time it was all on her.
{Inside the living room}
Meredy and Sting had walked back and heard everything. Lucy had heard it all too and when she heard Aries cries she got pissed but not at Loke, at Meredy. Even though Aries and her hadn't known each other for a long time she still felt close to her. So when she walked up to Meredy ready to slap her and ended up slapping Sting she was a tiny bit confused.
"I'm so sorry Sting," Lucy said "I was just trying to, I don't know really."
Sting didn't reply he just turned towards Meredy to see if she was ok. Loke walked out to a different room and Sting knew that he had to fix what had happened like he usually did. He sighed before speaking.
"Meredy go talk to Loke." Sting said
"What about Aries?" she asked looking in her direction
"I'll figure it out." Sting said pushing her towards Loke's direction
Once Meredy was out of the room, Sting turned to Lucy.
"Don't get involved in thing's you don't understand." Sting told her
"I understand plenty." Lucy yelled at him all of a sudden
All the angry she had towards him for what he and Meredy had done in front of her – the laughing, the touching, the playful smiles, the flirting – she didn't care anymore if she sounded jealous, he had to know what he was putting her through.
"You understand nothing."
"I know that it's Meredy's fault that Loke just broke up with Aries. Aries has every right to tell him those things."
"No she didn't."
"How would you know? You're a guy who's closed off and has never been in a relationship."
"Either have you."
"Except I feel things, Sting you feel nothing."
Sting looked at her for a while, trying his best to control his temper, trying his best to look at this from her eyes but he was having a hard time accomplishing that.
"I feel everything. I feel love. I feel happiness. I feel sadness. I feel aloneness. I feel angry. I feel hope. I feel joy. I feel every god damn emotion but I'm better at hiding the ones people hate seeing. If that's bad then sorry I'm not just like you Lucy. Sorry I'm different. Now excuse me while I go comfort one of my friends."
"He's your only friend."
Lucy covered her mouth after that. Sting looked at her, his eye swirling with disbelief for a few seconds before they showed pure angry. His body moved towards her a step closer bringing up his hand. Lucy closed her eyes waiting for a blow that never came. She opened them and saw Meredy hugging Sting.
"Sting, shh, its ok," Meredy said "I'm your friend, Loke's your friend and so is that Rogue fellow. Loke needs you right now so why not go to him ok."
Meredy moved from his chest before going on her tippy toes and giving him a kiss on the check. Sting turned away and walked towards Loke, not once looking back. Meredy turned to Lucy.
"You and I need to talk." Meredy said grabbing her hand and pulling her towards the couches
Lucy followed her regretting what she had said to Sting. It was all her angry just taking over her. She didn't really mean what she said. It was driven by angry and jealousy but mostly jealousy.
"So I've heard about what Sting told you yesterday." Meredy started as Lucy sat down
"After all that I still said those things to him."
"We all make mistakes. I've lost count of how many times I said something stupid or heartless to Sting before he and I became how we are today." Meredy told her
"I'm so stupid."
"I think you are too but hey I don't know you that well. However, I know Sting and don't worry about it." Meredy smiled
"I'm already worrying."
"Hey, don't forget this is Sting and his by all mean understanding and if you explain everything he'll get it." Meredy advised her before standing up
"Sometimes I don't need to explain because he can see right through me. I hate it."
"I love it. Besides his easy to read as well, you just have to start noticing." Meredy spoke before heading out to the balcony.
Lucy sighed. Thinking about what Meredy said. Now the only one left in the room. How did the night go from peaceful to such a mess? Lucy then groaned before she laid on the couch thinking about when the right moment was to approach Sting.
{At the balcony}
Meredy stepped closer to the still crying Aries, feeling her heart drop at being one of the few reasons she was crying. She sighed as she went down to the other pink head level. Finding it in herself to be the bigger girl here however she was doing this more for Loke that Aries. She still didn't quite like her that much but she was willing to try and get along with her for Loke's sake.
"Hey, shy girl," Meredy spoke softly teasing her "I though you stopped this whole crying thing. Remember you look like shit when you have running makeup."
Aries sniffed as she got her head out of her hands to face the girl next to her. I bit of her was hoping that it was Loke and she knew she looked pathetic but she didn't know what else to do.
"You should be happy about this," Aries spoke quietly Meredy could barely hear her "now you can have his full attention and you guys and spend more time together."
"See if you were a different girl and this was a different guy I would be but Loke means a lot to me. I don't think I could stand him being depressed for more than an hour," Meredy said honestly looking at Aries "I know that you adore him and he does to you. I know for a fact that you two belong together more than anyone else in this world. I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I knew you two weren't a couple, cause let's face it, if that were to happened you would both be miserable."
Aries sniffed again and looked at Meredy. Though she absolutely hated her with all her heart, she had always admired her for being strong willed and understanding. She smiled and started to stand Meredy standing up right after her.
"I guess that mean I owe you and apology." Aries said
"Now if you did that, I might actually start seeing you as a nice person." Meredy joked partly
"Do you think we should get along for Loke's sake?" Aries asked glaring at her
"It's cool. I just won't take the shit that comes out of your mouth personally, as long as you don't do it frequently."
"The world would end if we became friends." Aries agreed
"Would that be so bad?" Meredy joked
They both smiled as the started to walk through the doors to the living room. Aries felt a tiny bit better and Meredy was happy. Their relationship was weird, mean and cruel with one another but it had been this way for so long that it had become a part of them and they wouldn't want to change it for the world.
"Let's get you clean up though. You look worse than usually." Meredy said
"Yet I still look better than you." Aries said back following her to the bathroom
{In the dining room}
Sting and Loke stood in front of each other, Loke not speaking and Sting still trying to get his head clear so he could help his friend. What Lucy had said really pissed him off but he knew she had her reasons no matter what they were.
"I know that maybe I shouldn't have said that and walked away but I did that cause Meredy's important to me. She's always been there and she's always there and we've been through so much together and I know that I can't throw that away Aries because I know that I love her and she's my everything and I went through so much to get us together and I would crush and burn without her but I would crush and burn without Meredy as well," Loke gave a speech looking at Sting studying him "I'm not stupid I know what I just did and I know that it wasn't smart but I can't take it back now."
Sting didn't speak, his was listening and he honestly didn't know why he was here when Loke knew what he was saying and getting himself into.
"Aren't you going to say something?" Loke asked searching Sting's eyes and body language but maybe for the first he couldn't tell what Sting was thinking because for the first time Sting's guard was up around him. "You feeling ok?"
"I'm not saying that you're stupid but I think that you should just let Meredy and Aries have their relationship as they want," Sting spoke his eyes dead and he felt his body shaking a little "They seem happy with it and you shouldn't get in the middle of that."
Loke sighed and nodded. His was more worried about Sting at this point now. Sting was just standing there with a bored expression, his eyes looked like a pale dull blue and he kept clutching and unclutching his hands.
"I guess I should do that," Loke said "do you have something on your mind?"
"No but I think I'm going to get some air." Sting said as he started to walk towards the door
Loke knew better than to stop or bother him with question but he was worried and he had to know for sure if one of his best friends was feeling ok.
"Are you sure you're feeling alright?" Loke asked again
"Yeah, I need to get away from all this stupid drama." Sting said at the door frame turning to face Loke, giving him a small smile before shutting the door behind him
Loke sighed, running a hand through his hair worried about what Sting would end up doing on his walk and what made him change his mode all of a sudden. Neither less they wasn't much he could do unless he wanted to end up completely bruised and not have Sting talk to him for a while.
"Loke," Aries' voice called from behind him "I'm terribly sorry."
"Aries," Loke said turning to face both her and Meredy "It's ok but maybe we should talk to private."
"Oh come on," Meredy whined "Where's Sting then?"
"He went to get some air." Loke told her sending her another massage with his eyes
Meredy got it and nodded before walking towards the living room, a planned formed in her head.
{In the living room}
"I have a favour to ask you blondie." Meredy said to Lucy smiling
"What?" Lucy asked looking at her worried
"It's Sting, I need you to go and apologize to him." Meredy said
"Where is he?" Lucy asked
"The grave yards a short walk from here." Meredy answered
She knew that Sting would have probably gone there anyway. That was usually where he would go when he need to have a breather and just be him and a bunch of dead people.
"Why would he be there?" Lucy asked confused
"Sting's a complicated fellow but I believe his there and I would kindly like it if you went and just talked to him." Meredy said in a more demanding voice
"Why can't you do it?" Lucy asked
"I wasn't that one who said those cruel, evil, ruthless, undeserving, inconsiderate-"
"I get it, I get it. I'll go." Lucy said getting up
"You're the best." Meredy said before she threw her a gun
Lucy screamed as she jumped away from it.
"What the fuck?" Lucy yelled "Where the fuck does someone keep a gun when they don't have a bag?"
"Thighs are a girl's best friend too you know." Meredy smiled
"What am I supposed to do with a gun?" Lucy asked
"I have to stay here and protect Loke. It's an in case kinda thing you know. Here," Meredy said removing the strap from her right thigh "put the gun on that, it's really tiny but the punch is hard."
Lucy just looked at her but decided to follow her instruction, not wanting to get held at gun point for not listening.
"Why am I even doing this?" Lucy asked
"You ask way too many questions. Do yourself a favour, when you do see Sting do ask too many questions ok, in fact don't ask any questions." Meredy advised her
Lucy nodded as she walk out of the living and towards the outside doors., ready to apologize to Sting and hopefully not make a fool out of herself more than she already did.
