This chapter is Natasha finding out about Clint being compromised. I hope you like this chapter. It includes a flashback! :)
"We need you to come in." Coulson said.
"Are you kidding? I'm working!" I argued.
"This takes precedence."
"I'm in the middle of an interrogation and this moron is giving me everything."
"I don't give everything." the target said and I raised my eyebrows completely unconvinced by his statement. I went back to talking to Coulson again.
"Look, you can't pull me out of this right now."
"Natasha. Barton's been compromised."
My face dropped and I knew that on the outside I looked only angry. The enemy might notice my change of emotions, but I didn't care.
On the inside, I was freaking the hell has happened? Coulson sounded worried, but he said compromised not dead, but if it wasn't serious he wouldn't pull me out in the middle of an investigation.
If he was dead, I don't know what I would do. Who would I turn to? Who would I rely on? I felt like I was going to cry. I have only cried a few times in my life, when I was a child and once with Clint.
Flashback
Of course, I had dealt with missions related to human trafficking before, but not with children. The effect is different on me somehow, probably because I was in the Red Room from the age of 5. I didn't want other children to be controlled without their consent.
We had a mission to get the children out of the ware house and to the extraction point.
Everything started out okay.
Me and the team went in with guns, or a bow in Bartons case, and prepared to attack the bastards who had kidnapped these children. They have been enemies of S.H.I.E.L.D for a while now.
Opening the door, we scanned the area only to find no trace of the targets.
In one corner of the room, there were about 20 girls in only vests and pants piled up like they were worth nothing. All covered in blood. All with their throats slit. All dead.
I froze. I have never frozen on a mission in my life.
The rest of the team were advancing forward to move the girls into lines out of respect and calling S.H.I.E.L.D to tell them about the situation.
It reminded me of the Red Room. I was forced to kill the other girls in training to complete a survival of the fittest test. They assigned it every week, narrowing down the girls, to reach to end result of The Black Widow.
I realised two minutes later that Barton was shaking my shoulders trying to pull me out of my trance.
"Tasha" he whispered. I looked into his eyes and I could feel my eyes filling up with tears.
Almost immediately, he pulled me away from the other agents, out of the warehouse and round to the back wall. An agent was standing guard and my heart ached when he shielded the tears in my eyes threatening to spill down my face.
Barton dismissed him and once he rounded the corner, Clint pulled me into a hug as the tears started streaming down my face.
I sobbed into his chest and hugged him tighter as he whispered in my ear that everything was going to be okay. He found out about my past when I told S.H.I.E.L.D and I said to them that I was comfortable with any mission and that I would not get distracted or emotional. I had kept that up, until now.
Hugging me back, he stroked my hair with his right hand and my back with his left.
I felt so comfortable that I didn't really want to leave this position. Or him.
I knew that we would have to go back and give the men orders, but I didn't want them to see my face. What was I going to do?
"Go and put your make-up on that's in the car. I know you don't want them to see your reaction to this." he said whilst pulling me out of the hug and holding me by my shoulders. How did he know me so well? I took a minute to gather myself before saying "Okay." in a confident voice.
We both knew that we were not going to discuss the matter any further and he looked upset by that.
Present day
Remembering that my target was stilled looking at me, I knew that I had to get out of here now, screw the mission and go find Barton.
Keeping up my Black Widow mask I said "Let me put you on hold", which translated to Coulson as I am going to kick these guys asses then come and find Barton with you.
Whilst I was fighting my targets, I couldn't keep my mind off of Clint and I could feel my vision being clouded by tears.
As I chucked their leader over a ledge, leaving him hanging by a chain attached to his leg, a tear left my eye and I quickly wiped it away, with my emotions and picked up the phone again along with my shoes.
"Where's Barton now?" I asked, hoping that Coulson would give me some kind of location, but I was pained by his reply of "We don't know".
Even though he didn't know where he was, I needed him to confirm my suspicions.
"But he's alive." I said more as a statement wishing that he could agree.
"We think so." That is not certain answer. "I'll brief you on everything when you get back. But first, we need you to talk to the big guy." Their asking me to get Stark? Yeah right!
"Coulson, you know that Stark trusts me about as far as he can throw me."
"No, I've got Stark. You get the big guy." he said and I now knew exactly what he meant.
"О, Боже" I said. (Oh god)
This could get interesting.
I hope that you liked my chapter and the next one is going to be about Natasha getting Bruce to come in, which I might right later tonight :) Please leave a review!
