A/N: well aren't I terrible. I took forever to update and all I give you is this. It makes me feel bad. But then I remember I'm giving you free content, so meh. Anyway, I should get back to writing soon. Just school hit me like a truck all of a sudden. And I'd like a Beta, because I never check any of my work, but idk. Talk to me if anyone is interested.
Anyway, on with the story.
The atmosphere was gloomy.
At least, that was Naruto's take on wave these days. Only 4 months after he was welcomed into Kaiza's home and everything was going wrong. Not only had this Gato person made an appearance at the fishing competition, but Kaiza and Tsunami seemed to be coming across a stumbling block in their relationship. In effect, there was no sense of relief for Naruto and Inari. Everywhere they went it seemed that something was wrong.
In the streets there was depression and in the home there was a tension that sapped all joy from them. Even their favorite activity to do together, fishing, had become a mundane and tedious task.
Naruto sighed from his perch on the tree. The Gato guy was really fucking things up. Not only had he bought up all the ports in and around wave, but he raised the price to go through the ports substantially. Now to go through them one has to give up 15% of their cargo plus a tax depending on what you were bringing. 'And to think,' Naruto mused to himself, 'those same people he bankrupts are desperate enough to go right back to him for money.'
'So is the human condition, warden.' The Kyuubi interjected, 'for the weak to bow to the will of the strong.'
Natuto groaned out loud at his tenant's voice. 'I just wanted to figure out how to I could help these people, I don't want to here anything from you.'
'There is nothing to think about, boy. The answer is to take my power and become strong so that you rule over these weak insects.' The Kyuubi said, ignoring Naruto's request.
'I'm not going to take your power Fox, and there has to be another way to do things. You aren't some omnipotent being who knows everything about life.'
The beast gave a wicked grin behind the seal. 'Oh no, I'm not omnipotent. But who needs to be when you've watched humans try and fail for so long. When you've seen how despicable humans truly are for how long I have, you learn the only way to deal with them is power.'
Naruto snorted at that. 'Yeah, whatever helps you sleep at night Fox.'
Kyuubi's grin changed to a sneer at Naruto's response. 'Don't disregard my advice boy. I've seen more than you ever will.'
'You see I would listen to you, if you were right. There is another way, I just know it.'
'Yeah, are you as sure about that as you were that the only way to solve everything at Konoha was to leave?'
'Don't patronize me Fox, what I did was the right thing.'
'Yeah, whatever helps you sleep at night, warden.' The chakra construct shot back. 'Now leave me be. I'm trying to go to sleep.'
Naruto grumbled at that. "Stupid Fox. He started talking to me, not the other way around. Where does he get the idea he can blame his lack of sleep on me?"
"You say something Naruto?!" Inari shouted from his spot on the shore.
"Nothing important. How's your fishing going?" Naruto responded.
Inari sighed and his shoulders dropped. "Not well. I haven't caught anything aside from that fish from earlier."
Naruto frowned at that and hopped off the tree he was in. "Well let's try for a little longer. Maybe we will catch big to make up for the lack of fish."
