A/N: Apologies for the lack of updating! But I'll be honest, my next semester is going to be a HEAVY workload. Plus, exams are coming up for the end of term, so I'm going to be busy studying for those. I wanted to update for you guys though, so here ya go!
Disclaimer: don't own A&A.
Ally POV
"Sorry," Austin said as he sat up straight again, wiping his nose. I smiled, and he sighed. "You have no idea how good it feels to see your smile again."
"Awe," I smiled. "But how were your first shows?"
"Awesome," he said. "Same as always. Although a few people passed out at the Tampa Bay one." He stopped. "Too soon?"
"No," I laughed. "When are you going start again?"
"When you're healthy again. I don't care how long it takes."
"Austin-"
"No, you're my first priority," he said firmly. "But no more injuries, okay?"
I sighed. "I'll try."
Trish and Dez brought Maci in at that moment. "Yay, you're awake!" Dez said.
"So good to have you back, girl," Trish grinned.
"Mommy!" Maci exclaimed, reaching for me.
"Hi, baby!" I said. Austin picked her and handed her to me, making sure she stayed clear of my one arm. "I missed you."
"Sick?" She asked. "Daddy said yeah."
"Yeah, but I'm better now," I told her, brushing down her hair gently.
"Cassidy stopped by to see you," Austin told me. "Same with Quinn, Jesse, and everyone else."
"Cassidy?" I asked.
"You never told me you ran into her again."
"I know, I'm sorry," I admitted. "I didn't want to bring up old drama."
He nodded in understanding. "It's okay; I'm not upset. We talked for a bit."
"Hopefully I get out of here soon," I said. "I just want to go home to my own bed. And eat good food."
"But the cake is so good," Dez said.
"Really, dude?" Austin said. "Again with the cake?"
"Sorry."
Okay, now I really wanted some of this cake. I smiled. "Oh, it's good to be back."
I had gotten back from the hospital a few days previously, and although it had been made clear that I was completely accident prone, I still wished that I hadn't been injured; everything was harder to do with my left arm in a sling.
The detectives hadn't gotten any more leads as to who had broken into our house, but I was now positive that nothing had been stolen. Austin bought a couple more lamps to replace the broken ones, and unfortunately, he had to clean up all of my blood before he did that. I couldn't even look at it all over the floor, knowing it was mine.
"Ally," Austin said.
"Hmm?"
"I asked if you wanted to come with me to take Maci to Quinn's for her play date." He looked at me closely, concerned. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah, I'm fine. Just zoned out, I guess. Sure, I'll come along." I stood up and grabbed my jacket, heading towards the door. "Let's go."
"Uh, aren't you forgetting something?"
"What?"
He pointed towards the floor, where Maci was standing with her arm out towards me. "The whole reason we're going to Quinn's."
"Oh, right," I said. I walked over to her and held her hand on my good side as we walked out the door, Austin close behind us.
"Here, I've got her," he said as we got to his SUV.
"Yay, daddy, higher!" Maci exclaimed happily as Austin bent to lift her up. He threw her up once just to make her happy, which made me cringe (I hated when he did that), and then put her in her car seat.
"Tell me honestly if something is bothering you," Austin said while we drove. "You can't be perfectly fine, so don't tell me you are."
"I just didn't hear you talking to me. I'm okay, Austin."
He reached over and linked his fingers through mine. "Als."
"Maybe it's just fear."
"What do you mean?"
"Fear that it's going to happen again. That it will be a different result than last time. I don't know."
"Ally, it's not going to happen again. I promise you."
"You can't promise me that," I told him. "You don't know for sure."
"Hey, listen to me," he said. "Nothing is going to happen, okay? I'll make sure of that. I'll do whatever it takes to keep you safe. You know that."
"I know," I sighed. I let go of his hand. "But you better put two hands on the wheel before we get into an accident."
He did as I asked. "Better?"
"Yes."
When we got to Quinn's, she was standing out the window, Jesse beside her. They waved and disappeared. A few seconds later, they came out to greet us.
"Ally, you're okay!" Quinn smiled. I gave her a one armed hug. "How are you feeling?"
"Pretty good," I said. "My arm is sore, but other than that, I'm good."
She nodded and turned to Austin. "Hey, dude."
"Hey, dudette." They always called each other dude and dudette.
While they talked, Jesse turned to me and gave me a hug. "I'm glad you're okay."
I nodded into his chest and then pulled away. "I heard you were pretty worried about me."
"Well, yeah, why would I not be worried about my sister?"
I smiled. "I'm teasing you." I hit his shoulder lightly. "Thanks."
"And hello, Maci," Quinn smiled. "How are you?"
"Good!" Maci piped up from down beside Austin, who was holding her hand. "Where's Sher?"
"She's inside with Leah," Quinn said. As if on queue, Leah came out holding Sheridan, whose eyes lit up when she saw Maci.
"Maci!" Sheridan exclaimed. Leah set her down and the three-year-old ran over to Maci, who embraced her in a hug. Austin, taking that as his queue, let go of Maci and started talking to Jesse.
"Awe, they're just so cute," Leah grinned. "Hi, Ally. How are you feeling?"
"Good, thanks, Leah," I smiled, giving her a hug. "How are you?"
"Good! Sorry, Jace is visiting his girlfriend again in Florida, so he's not here to see you."
"It's okay," I said. "I'll see him another time."
"We better let Maci get to her little play date," Austin said. "We'll see you guys at five. If she gives you trouble, call us."
"Ah, nonsense, she'll be fine. She always is," Quinn said.
We waved and went back to the vehicle. I could hear Sheridan talking to Maci about her new stuffed animal she got.
"Oh, buy the way, I made us reservations at Ricky's for tomorrow," Austin said.
I turned in my seat. "Ricky's? What's the occasion?"
"I feel bad that you're a gimp again and can't cook, so I figured we can go out tomorrow."
He was trying so hard not to laugh, and I hit him. "It's not my fault I cut my arm! Besides, you know how to cook."
"Not nearly as good as you do. It must be the Italian in you."
"Well, I don't mean to brag…"
"Okay, don't get too carried away," my boyfriend chuckled as I flipped my hair.
"What the heck is in your ear?" he asked.
"My piercing, remember?"
"Jeez, what ring do you have in there? It's flashy," he said.
"It's just a normal ring," I told him before changing the subject. "So, can you please consider going back on tour again soon?"
"Ally-"
"No, hear me out. I'm fine now, it's been a few days since I left the hospital and nothing has happened. I just have my arm in a sling that I need to clean every so often, I'm not paralyzed. And I know you're dying to get back to the tour."
"You're right, I am," he sighed. "But you're here."
"Would it make you feel better if Maci and I came along with you, instead of waiting like we had originally planned?" I asked.
"Oh, yeah. Most definitely."
"Then why don't we do that?"
He was quiet for a minute as he thought about it. "Well, I guess we can try it."
"Yes! Ooh, now I'm excited," I said. "I missed seeing you on tour. Oh my gosh, I have to figure out what to pack, what outfits to bring, what-"
"Slow down, Als," Austin laughed. "We haven't even decided when I'm going to start again."
"Well, as soon as possible, obviously!"
"We'll see," he said.
I sighed. "Party pooper."
He just pat my leg a couple times and continued driving.
