Oh my gosh, sorry that I haven't updated in a while, it's just that secondary school gives a lot more homework than when I was in Grade 6. And yes, I am that young. It doesn't necessarily mean that I'm incompetent. I am in the gifted class, after all. But that's enough about my life. Here's the fifteenth chapter!
And, uh, contains some Longshot (Artemis/Roy). But, also contains Chalant (Zatanna/Dick)!
I don't own anything in TTSoTTH or any of my other stories.
The Many Moods of Roy Harper
1. Grumpy
"Shut up, Wallace!" Roy growled, harshly whacking the younger boy with a pillow.
Wally pouted, rubbing the back of his head. "What was that for?"
"For being an irrational idiot," snapped Roy. "Why would Dick want a coffee maker for his birthday?"
"Maybe 'cause he said yesterday, 'I want a coffee maker for my birthday,'?" Wally sarcastically suggested, wincing as he realized his mistake.
You never. Ever. Ever. Use sarcasm with Roy when he's grumpy.
"Oh, dear," Wally muttered, preparing for the blow as Roy's face turned crimson. "Three…two…one…"
"WALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL LLLLLLLLLYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY-
2. Lovesick (Longshot, Chalant)
"So, who'd like to share their Valentine's poem?"
Wally's hand shot up in the blink of an eye. Dick nodded, and Wally took a deep breath.
"You smell like chocolate and stuff that's nice, you're sweet and made of sugar and spice- I love you, COOKIES!"
The youngest bit back a snicker. "How…creative, Wally. Well, my turn!" He picked up his paper, which was filled with beautiful, tidy rows of cursive.
"Voluminous tresses glisten in the starlight,
Your melodic voice soft and sweet.
The spells you cast take hold of my heart
Making it flutter every time that we meet.
You've cast your magnificent magic on me
It's got me devoted to you.
It's incredible, simply inevitable
And I swear that I won't be untrue." Dick finished, a dazzling smile across his features.
"Overachiever," Wally snorted. "Roy?"
Roy sighed, picking up a crumpled piece of paper. "Okay…"
"I really hate your snarling ways,
I can't stand your spitfire mood.
I detest your tresses, that dazzling gold,
And the way I smile when I'm with you.
You make me extremely frustrated,
Disgust me to the stars and above.
I abhor you a lot, in fact so much that
I think that I'm really in love."
"Split personality much?"
Roy flushed scarlet, and Dick proceeded to embarrass him further. "The word, Wally, is contradictory. Or just plain confused. For example," Dick began, picking up and peering at the paper, "Abhor, hate and detest are not synonyms for love. And frustrated doesn't mean lovesick."
3. Overprotective
"I knew she was trouble from the moment she walked into Mount Justice!" Roy snarled, pacing back and forth.
"I knew you were trouble when you walked in, so shame on me now-
"Stop being a Taylor Swift wannabe, Wally, and help me! This is a grave matter."
"Whath do you haff againtht Zathanna?" Wally queried through a mouthful of chips.
"She used her abracadabra magic to make our little bro infatuated with her! And then, when she's slyly gained his trust, she'll crush his heart!" Roy ran a hand through his fiery hair, eyes wild.
Wally set the bag of chips down, resting his chin on his palm thoughtfully. "Okay. First of all, I don't believe in magic. And seco-
"Yeah, no," Roy interjected starkly, crossing robust arms.
"And secondly, how do you know that Zatanna is plotting something? What if she's really in love with him?"
"I…" Roy faltered. "But…that senseless girl can't be right for Dickie!"
Wally shrugged, his gaze wandering to the photo of the trio on the wall. "If it makes him happy…who are we to complain?"
4. Anxious
"Zatanna to League. Robin has been injured. I repeat, Robin has been injured!" the magician's frantic voice blared in the Watchtower's control room.
Roy and Bruce blanched simultaneously.
"Kid Flash to League, Miss Martian and Aqualad are unconscious and unable to fight. Should we retreat?"
"No," the pained voice of the youngest member caused Roy to sigh in relief.
But Batman didn't take time to relax. "Robin, retreat."
"No. This is a major mission that we can't afford to abandon."
"We can send backup."
"That will only put them at risk. I can handle it."
"No, Robin. I…" Batman's voice softened. "I can't lose you."
There was radio silence. Even the ever-talkative Superman was shocked into muteness.
And the silence was broken by two booming gunshots and a boy's broken cry.
"ROBIN!" A multitude of panicked voices screamed in unison.
An hour later…
Myriads of thoughts raced through Roy's distressed mind at the speed of light. What if Dick went into hypovolemic shock? What if he lost use of his legs? What if…he was dying?
Roy was broken out of his rather depressing reverie by Doctor Leslie's relieved announcement. "He's stable."
-Breakline-
The ginger archer strode towards the medbay, heading for Dick's room. At the entrance, he tentatively peered in.
Zatanna was seated by Dick's chair, stroking his arm while giggling and chattering softly. As he watched, Dick's lips cracked into a grin and he laughed. Not his usual insane cackle or his nervous giggle. A genuine laugh.
Wally's solemn words rang in his head. "If it makes him happy…who are we to complain?"
Roy sighed and gave a faint smile before sauntering off.
