"I wasn't looking when I stumbled onto you, must've been fate"
ii.
Somewhere during his tragic recount of the previous school year, Hinata had gently reminded Naruto to go get his schedule from the front office so he wouldn't be late for class. The blonde had unintentionally saved Sasuke form a mob of fan girls when he grabbed him from their midst to ask the way to the front office. Naturally Sasuke was equally as lost had no idea, but they were able to make their way there thanks to the large first year friendly signs on the wall—which he completely resented having to use.
The two spotted a short line in front of one of the many desks that populated the office. An attendant was handing out small half-sheets of paper which they assumed to be schedules. They made their way to the back of the short line, not having to wait long before they reached the front.
"Name and year?" The office attendant asked in a flat uninterested voice, not even bothering to look up at the two.
"Uchiha Sasuke and Uzumaki Na–" The office attendant's head snapped up, interrupting Sasuke before he could finish answering.
"You two will have to go see the principal for your schedules."
Apparently she couldn't just hand it to them and send them on their way. Something about having to talk with the principal about the severe consequences they would face if they ever had a repeat of the fight from first year, Sasuke was too annoyed at that point to actually pay attention to what she had been saying.

"So you two were expelled for fighting?" asked a lightly slurred female voice from behind the back of the black leather office chair Sasuke and Naruto found themselves seated across from.
"And who the hell are you? What happened to the old man?" Naruto asked, looking extremely confused.
No sound came from the other side of the leather office chair. The chair itself was barely visible behind the mountain of paper work on the desk in front of it. The pair eventually heard what sounded like light snoring. Sasuke was seriously contemplating the merits of homeschooling when the door to the office slammed open and a very annoyed brunette stormed in.
"Tsunade-sama, what the hell is this!?" The woman screamed, waving a thick pack of paper in the air. "Have you been gambling using the school funds again?" she all but shrieked.
A choking sound came from the other side of the leather chair before it quickly spun around revealing a busty blonde with a bottle of sake in her hand and a trail of drool going down the side of her face.
"Can you stop shouting Shizune?" Tsuande groaned, clutching her head with her free hand, "you're giving me a headache."
"Have you been drinking?" Shizune asked indigently, her voice maintaining its loud volume. "It's the first day of school not to mention 7:50 in the morning." Naruto coughed awkwardly, reminding the two women that he and Sasuke were still in the room. Both women stared at them briefly before Tsunade quickly looked through the mountain of paper on her desk and produced two schedules.
"Here," Tsunade said dismissively handing the papers to them before her hand went back to massaging her head. "Can I go back to sleep now?" she whined, giving up on massaging her head and instead opting to place it on her cluttered desk.
"You two can go to class now," Shizune grounded out, her eyes shut tightly in irritation. The two wasted no time exiting the office, closing the door in time to block out the yelling that proceeded on the other side. No one in the office showed any signs of surprise.
"Ne, Sasuke, do you know where room 304 is?" Naruto questioned while looking at his schedule. Sasuke quickly scanned his own schedule and realized they had the same first class. Wonderful, the day just kept getting worse.
"Do you boys not know where your classes are?" asked a much kinder looking office attendant than the one who had forced them into the principle's office. Naruto walked over to her while nodding his head. Since Sasuke didn't know where the room was either, he reluctantly followed. The office attendant looked around, trying to find someone to show the two to their class. Suddenly, the door opened and a student with crimson red hair and eyes rimmed black from sleep deprivation walked in, a paper in hand. Sasuke reflexively took a step back as the sullen student made his way over to the office attendant. Sabaku Gaara. Reformed juvenile delinquent or not, the guy never failed to unnerve him. Gaara handed over the paper he was holding to the office attendant.
"Hey Gaara, long time no see, eh?" Naruto cheerfully greeted, giving the stoic student a huge smack on the back. Sasuke half expected Gaara to turn around and break the arm Naruto currently had on his shoulder, but instead he just nodded his head in greeting. Sasuke could never understand how the two were friends.
"Oh!" the office attendant suddenly called out, getting the attention of all three boys, "Do you mind showing these two to their classes today?" she asked Gaara while gesturing towards Naruto and Sasuke.
The redhead assented, leading the three out the office. When Gaara open the door, he came to an abrupt halt, a small squeak sounding from the other side. Naruto quickly moved and grabbed onto a slender pale arm.
"Are you okay?" Naruto asked whoever was on the other side of the door. Sasuke heard frantic apologies and could just make out a dark head of hair. Unconcerned, Gaara made his way around the person and into the hallway revealing the red faced girl Naruto had addressed his question to. It was the same pale eyed girl that had been at the school's entrance.
"You really should be more careful Hinata-chan," Naruto said as he let go of her arm and leaned towards the flustered girl, causing her entire faced to turn an even darker shade of red as she stared uncertainly back at him.
Sasuke shook his head. The idiot really had no concept of personal space, couldn't he see he was making her uncomfortable? Naruto leaned in even closer, as if to prove Sasuke's point, his blue eyes filled with concern as he studied her.
"Are you sure your okay?" Hinata's breathing grew shallow as she broke eye contact, nodding her head mutely. She quickly moved around Naruto into the office. In her flustered state she nearly bumped into Sasuke as well, but seemed to see him in time to avoid him.
Sasuke shrugged off the encounter and joined Naruto so Gaara could lead them to class. As they were walking, Naruto took the opportunity to recount his escapades during the last year to their silent guide. Sasuke tried to tune out the shameless lies flying out the idiot's mouth as they made their way to class.

Was she staring at him? Not that he cared either way, but the way she was looking at him was a little bit unnerving. Sasuke tried to focus his attention elsewhere, like on the vacant spot in the front of the room where their literature teacher should have been sitting, but he could still feel her stare—well a lot of stares—but hers most prominently. He hadn't pegged her as a fan girl based on the way she had basically ignored his presence earlier this morning.
After Gaara had led them all to their first class of the day, he managed to snag an empty desk in the back as far away from the many fan girls occupying the classroom as possible. Naruto settled in the seat in front of him and next to Gaara, never missing a beat in his ridiculously inaccurate recap of their previous school year. Giant frogs? How did he even come up with that stuff? The Hyuga had quickly come into the room not long after the three had settled down, and had been staring in his direction ever since.
Sasuke looked towards her, prepared to meet her wide pale eyes with a hard glare of his own when he realized that she wasn't actually looking at him, but directly in front of him. Was she stealing glances at Naruto? Suddenly he remembered how he vaguely knew her. She had always been ogling the idiot during first year. He was pretty sure she fainted once when Naruto had accidentally bumped into her. He had found the entire situation highly amusing.
Suddenly her gaze met with his and her pale eyes widened. She immediately turned her head, her long dark hair shifting with the movement and hiding her face. At least she had the decency to look away when caught staring, the fan girls found some sick thrill in being caught in the act. One caught his eyes and smiled flirtatiously, he grimaced and opted to look out the window until the teacher decided to show up and actually do their job. What kind of teacher was twenty minutes late to class on the first day of school?

Their literature teacher never showed up and before he knew it Sasuke was on his way to his next class. Gaara had gone in the opposite direction to show Naruto to his since Sasuke's was in the same hallway as their last one. He had planned on taking his time walking to class but quickly changed his mind when one too many girls started heading his way. He practically ran into the classroom to avoid being mobbed in the middle of the hallway, only stopping at the door to compose himself enough to casually walk in.
There were only a few people already there, scattered at lab stations across the room. He took his seat at an one towards the back, putting his school bag in the empty seat beside him to discourage anyone from sitting there. Once seated, he took a proper look at the windowless room. There wasn't much to look at other than the few science posters scattered across the otherwise bare white walls. The white board had the word "Welcome" carelessly scrawled across it in faded green dry erase marker. The teacher was at her desk immersed in whatever she was doing on her laptop. Sasuke fixed his gaze on the expanse of wall to his right and let his mind wander as students slowly filled in.
A soft voice cut through the murmuring that now filled the classroom, bringing his attention back to his surroundings. His dark eyes slowly shifted upwards, seeking the source. His spine tingled with surprise when he met the same pair of pale Hyuga eyes for the second time that day. She was looking at him expectantly, growing more and more nervous as the seconds went by. Sasuke ignored the peculiar feeling he got from her attention, and raised his brows in question. Her milky gaze quickly dropped to the bag that filled the otherwise empty seat between them. Her lips parted, but words failed to come out. He regarded the Hyuga curiously, before noting the lack of available seats left in the classroom. The room had filled with students since he had let his mind wander.
Silently, Sasuke took his bag off the chair, placing it underneath it. As his gaze shifted back towards the wall, he heard her murmur a soft thank you.
Shortly afterwards their teacher, Anko-sensei, gave a short introduction to the class, passing out papers with rules and the course syllabus. She let them know that their current seats were going to be their permanent seats for the year and the student next to them would be their lab partner. Most of the class seemed seemed happy with the arrangement.
Sasuke, unsure of how he felt, stole a quick look at the girl seated beside him. Her head was turned so he was unable to make out her expression.
Anko smirked before she continued, letting them know their seats were subject to change at anytime if she felt their behaviour was any less than satisfactory. The smirk widened when groans sounded throughout the room. Leaving the class to their own devices, she sat back down behind her desk and immersed herself in the screen of her laptop once again.
Sasuke bit back a frustrated sigh. For whatever reason, he couldn't concentrate on mindlessly staring at the blank wall when he she was next to him. All his senses were conspiring against him, constantly reminding him of her presence.
The Hyuga made no attempt to talk to him at all, which wasn't surprising since she had kept to herself in literature as well—not that he was paying any attention to her, it just wasn't a hard thing to notice. Every time she shifted in her seat or made any movement, he couldn't help but notice and it was annoying. He decided to blame the fact he had nothing to fill the time before the next class. He was so bored he had been reduced to noticing the most pointless of things, which apparently included the every move of his new lab partner.
His brooding was interrupted by a quite giggle. It almost sounded more like an exhale of air than a laugh. Discreetly, his dark eyes slid over to look at the girl next to him. The smile on her face was enough of an indication that she had been the one to produce the sound.
The Hyuga put her hand on her face, fighting hard to hide the amusement that shone clearly in her pale moon like eyes. Her vision was trained on her lap; a quick look down revealed that she was looking at her cellphone. She removed her hand from her face, a ghost of a smile still on her lips and her eyes swimming with amusement. With surprisingly elegant movements, she rapidly began typing away on her phone.
Before he knew it, Sasuke was no longer looking at her hands but instead staring intently at the great expanse of smooth pale skin revealed by her skirt. Catching himself, he quickly looked back at the wall to his left. Why did she have to be wearing such a short skirt, wasn't there a dress code or something? Why did he notice her skirt in the first place? Why was he thinking about her in the first place?
Sasuke wished he had sat somewhere else, beside someone his mind didn't insist on torturing him with. He was going to have to deal with this all semester. No, this weird fascination with the Hyuga would fade before the end of the week. He had just returning from an all boys school, right now it didn't take much to catch his attention.
All his senses seemed to sharpen when he heard another giggle come from beside him. He fought the urge to look at her again and see the smile he knew was on her face. Maybe a week was pushing it, this wouldn't last more than two weeks, a month at the very most. It's not like this was the first time a random girl had caught his interest, it never lasted long.
Sasuke almost considered pulling out his phone and texting someone as well, but he wasn't that desperate. Counting the bricks on the wall would do. Another giggle proved to him otherwise 'What's so funny anyway?' he thought, pulling out his phone and looking through one of the many gaming apps Naruto had downloaded on to it. The blonde had looked through his phone the other day and decided that it was "too boring" and was in desperate need of a huge dose of "fun". The end result was about fifty new games downloaded onto his device. He was now glad that he had been too tired to go through and delete them all as he chose a game at random to distract himself with. Who knew he would ever be thankful for that blonde waste of space.
Thank you for reading! Leave a review and let me know what you think. I'll try and get the next chapter up soon
