Reviews for Chapter 18
MariMart: I agree with you! I'm trying to stick to the Twilight saga but this story is about Katie and Sam. Bella's just a supporting character. So, Bella's depression won't be drawn out in details like Meyer did.
Blacklab369: Maybe? Haha. Thank you so much! I hope you enjoy this update!
ForeverTeamEdward13: Thank you so much!
LovelyBlue99: I know exactly what you mean! I get so much in stories that waiting for the update is killer. I am so glad that you love this story!
Vampangel25: Thank you so much!
Adela: Hope you enjoy!
Sarahmichellegellarfan1: Thank you! I am gonna try to update more often now.
October
For the first few weeks after Edward and his family skipped town, me and Dad allowed Bella to mope around the house and just stare out the window. She had just been broken up with. The closest thing I ever had to a break up was what me and Sam went through a couple months back and that only lasted a few days.
Towards the end of October, we started getting worried that she may not come out of the grief that she had engulfed herself in. We kept Mom regularly updated, trying to avoid her buying a plane ticket. So, we left out the fact that Bella was having nightmares. We both hoped that they were a coincidence.
November
It had gotten to the point where I stayed with Dad on the nights where I didn't have class the next day to help him deal with Bella. During the day, she stayed in her room, only coming out to use the bathroom and eat the littlest bit of food. But, the nightmares continued at night. It had gotten to the point that he'd take a sleeping pill so he'd b somewhat rested for work in the morning. Half of the time, he still woke up from Bella's screaming.
November was also the month that Mom flew up from Jacksonville. Dad didn't want to send Bella to Florida but he decided that a change of scenery would be for the best for Bella.
As soon as Mom got to the house, we went into Bella's room and started packing her clothes. That was also the day that we finally saw some kind of emotion from her. She threw a tantrum worthy of a three year old child.
By the end of the day, it had been determined that Bella wasn't leaving Forks. Dad allowed her to stay as long as she started regularly going to school and go back to work. I also went back to stay with Sam. I don't think I ever saw a man so happy to see me.
December
Sleeping in had been a rarity these past few months, between going to school and helping dad take care of zombie Bella. So, when my body automatically woke up at 6:00 AM, I was relieved when I remembered that I was on Christmas break. I allowed myself to sink back into bed and cuddle back up into Sam's side.
"Kate?" Sam's mumbled voice drew me out of my state of light sleeping. I slowly opened my eyes and glanced up at him. His hair was still messed up from where he had been in bed all night (for the first time in a long time).
"Hmm?" I replied as his fingers ran gently through my hair, making me almost let go of any concentration that I had.
"Marry me." He said, pulling my hair away from my neck, gently pressing his lips to my skin. It took me a few minutes until I realized what he had said.
"Did you just say what I think you said?" I looked at him as I sat up on the bed. The question he asked seemed a little too serious to be slipped into a casual conversation.
Sam didn't respond, but he sat up, leaned over to the nightstand, and opened the drawer. Part of me was in disbelief on what was going on, but I kept silent. He slid out of bed and got down on one knee in front of me.
"Oh my God." The realization on what was going on had finally hit.
"Katherine Paige Swan." Sam took my hand in his and shot a brilliant smile my way. "One may say that we're moving too fast but they don't know us. I'm not good with words and I'm not going to ruin this moment by botching them up. Will you marry me?"
Sam opened up a small black box, which revealed a simple diamond ring. It was nothing fancy but I instantly found myself falling in love with it. Even though I hadn't tried it on yet, I somehow knew that it would look perfect on my finger.
"Yes." I wiped my eyes quickly, just realizing that I had been crying. Sam's face instantly brightened up as he took the ring out of the box and slid it on my left ring finger. I put my hands on either side of his face and pressed my lips against his.
"I love you Kate." He whispered as we parted.
"I love you Sam."

Sam's POV
If asking the Chief for permission to date his daughter was scary, asking him for permission to marry his daughter was unthinkable. I knew that Katie was old-fashioned and I knew that I had a better chance of Charlie approving of it if I went to him before proposing.
I had learned from Katie that Charlie took the day off work to try and get Bella packed up to move down to Florida with their mom. As soon as Katie left for the airport to pick up their mother, I headed to meet Charlie.
"Sam, what are you doing here?" Charlie looked surprised as he opened up the door. He looked as if he hadn't gotten a decent night of sleep in a few weeks and I'm sure that he hadn't.
"I need to ask you a question." It came straight out. Way to be blunt, Sam.
"Come on in…" He moved out of the doorway and allowed me to walk in. As soon as we walked in the house, I felt myself start to get even more nervous, if that was even possible.
Thankfully, I was able to sit down. I knew it wouldn't be a good start to faint on the Chief when I was trying to get out that I wanted to marry his daughter.
"What's this about?" Charlie leaned back in the recliner, glancing between me and the stairs.
"You know that I love Katie, sir." I started off. This couldn't be a bad start, right?
"Yeah."
"I want to be with her forever." I could almost see Charlie roll his eyes mentally. I thought I had proven myself within the year that me and Katie had been together but I guess he had a hard time forgetting what happened last summer.
"What I'm trying to say is…" I took a deep breath. It's now or never. "I want your permission to marry your daughter."
If he would have been drinking something, I would have bet money that whatever it was would have spewed out of his mouth the second I finished my sentence. The next minute or two passed in silence.
"She's my little girl." He finally sighed.
"I'll take care of her and treat her like she deserves to be." I promised him. I felt like this would have gone over more smoothly had he known about the tribe legends and understood them that they were real.
"Part of me knew the minute that you picked her up for your first date that I was going to lose her to you. It was in the way that she looked at you and looked at her…" He sat up and ran his hand through his hair.
"Is this really the best time?" He asked, gesturing to the stairs, where Bella was most likely in her bedroom, drowning in her grief.
"Katie's life shouldn't be hindered because of what's going on with Bella." I simply said.
I could see that he was running out of ways to say no or not right now to me. He opened his mouth to respond but then the front door opened. I had been so focused on this conversation that I completely zoned out on everything else around me.
"Sam." Katie looked confused to see me sitting in the living room. While he usually had no problem with me, me and Charlie were never the ones to just "hang out".
"I just come over to visit your dad." I leaned down and kissed her forehead.
"And who is this?" A woman walked in the door behind Katie. Instantly, I knew this was Renee, her mother. I could see now that she was almost a splitting image of her mom.
"Mom, this is Sam." Katie wrapped her arm around my waist and moved close into my side. "Sam, this is my mom."
"Nice to meet you." I held my hand out. She looked me up and down before shaking my hand. Even after we finished shaking hands, I felt like she was staring me down. What made it more intense was the fact that I just asked Charlie for permission to marry Katie and I remembered from conversations with her that Renee was not big on marrying young…
"You two look nice together." Renee finally commented as she passed us to go upstairs. Katie leaned up and pressed a light kiss to my jaw before following her mom up the stars.
"Sam." Charlie's voice made me turn around. He didn't say anything, but simply nodded.
