Old Enemies
Starfire was absolutely livid. She despise, no, loathed, no, hated her former friends for what they did to her. But she didn't just hate them, she hated herself. She hated herself for being so naive and trusting. For being so loyal and forgiving that she didn't even confront them when she found out about the affair. The longer time passed, the more Starfire started wishing she was dead again. Maybe she could just commit suicide again.
Starfire stared into the water as the sky darkened. Soon the moon shined brightly overhead. If it wasn't for the promise she made to Beast Boy and Cyborg, she would've killed them. Starfire was unaware of a certain thief who was watching over her from a distance.
Starfire was broken out of her trance when she heard a distorted voice say "It's a little late to be out here by yourself, cutie"
Starfire looked up and saw Red X standing atop the roof of the building overlooking the river.
"Oh, it is you" Starfire said with a mildly bored tone.
"What, you sound unhappy to see me. Come on, show me a little love cutie, it's been too long" Red X said smirking behind his mask.
"Please go away" Starfire said. "I am not in the mood for your flirtatious behavior"
"What's wrong with you?" Red X asked. "You sound angry"
"That is none of your concern" Starfire replied.
"Well do you mind if I ask you how you're alive" Red X asked in response. "Word around town was that you had gone and offend yourself"
"The means of my resurrection does not matter" Starfire replied. "Truthfully, I wish I was still deceased"
"Wow, bird boy must have screwed up pretty big to make you this upset," Red X noted.
"Please, just go away" Starfire pleaded, growing angrier and angrier as time went on. She just wanted to forget everything.
"Come on, talk to me" Red X said. "It's just you and me. Tell me what's wrong"
"If it will get you to quit pestering me then fine!" Starfire huffed. "My relationship with Robin was not as happy as I thought it was. A few months after we got together, Robin started having an affair with Raven behind my back. When my powers started to fail because of my negative emotions, Robin added insult to injury by banning me from going on missions. Eventually I had enough and decided to end my life."
"How'd you end up being resurrected?" asked Red X.
"As I said earlier, that is none of your business" Starfire replied. "Besides, it does not matter either way. My former friends' conscience are at ease so I doubt they could care less about what I do"
As she turned to leave.
"Hey, where you going?" Red X yelled after her.
"Why do you care?" Starfire asked.
"Well you said you're not going back to the Titans, where else are you going to go?" Red X asked. "Where else can you go?"
Starfire stopped for a minute but continued walking away, ignoring the thief. Red X however, wasn't going to just let the Tameranian go off who knows where.
"Hey, since you don't have anywhere else to go and you refuse to return to your friends, why don't you stay with me?" Red X offered.
"What?" Starfire asked, seeking clarification.
"You heard me, stay with me for tonight" Red X said. "It's safer than sleeping on the streets where thugs, drug dealers, and murderers roam at night"
"I can take care of myself!" Starfire insisted. "I do not need anyone's help"
"Come on, don't be so cold, I'm not going to hurt you" Red X tried to assure her but Starfire wasn't buying it.
"We have fought against each other on multiple occasions and you have proven that you are capable of incapacitating me" Starfire reminded him. "How do I know you will not take advantage of me?"
"I wouldn't even think of sinking so low" Red X replied, sounding disgusted. "I'm merely a thief and a hired gun. I'll leave the villainy to these delusional villains with visions of ruling the city"
"Fine!" Starfire sighed reluctantly before warning Red X. "But if you try anything, I will not hesitate to break every single bone in your body"
Red X actually flinched at Starfire's threat, taken by surprise by the brutal nature of the once innocent girl. Just what did the Titans do to her to cause such a drastic shift in personality?
Red X took Starfire to his hideout, a small little house on the outskirts of Jump City. The house was located in one of the more affluent neighborhoods of Jump. Very little, if any, crimes took place in this area, making it the perfect hideout for a master thief who was wanted by both the police and the Teen Titans and had crossed several powerful gangs in the city.
Even after stepping inside, where no one could see his face, Red X refused to remove his mask. Just like Robin, Starfire thought before quickly pushing the thought out of her head. She didn't even want to think of her ex lover. He was as good as dead to her.
Starfire took a minute Tak survey the house. It was single story, one bedroom with one bed and a living room with a couch. There was a TV mounted on the wall as well as a computer set up in the corner of the room. The kitchen simply consisted of a mini fridge and a table for eating.
"I apologize if this little shack isn't big enough" Red X apologized. "I don't ever have guests over so I never prepared a guest room or anything"
"It is fine" Starfire said. "I will only be staying for one night, then I am leaving Jump City tomorrow morning"
"You're leaving Jump City tomorrow?" Red X asked. "Don't you want to at least maybe say goodbye to any of your old friends?"
"Too risky" Starfire answered. "They might pass that information to either Robin or Raven, who will no doubt try and stop me. And I made a promise not to kill them; if I were to see them again, I do not know if I would be able to contain my anger"
"Do you think you'll ever come back?" Red X asked.
Starfire pondered for a moment before truthfully answering "No"
Alright, first off let me apologize for the long delay. First school got in the way of properly working on a new chapter, then school got in the way of continuing work on new chapters and everything was hectic. I appreciate your patience and hope you enjoyed the story. I don't know when I'll upload next but you can be sure this story is not being canceled and will be finished. As always, I've been Timothy D, have a nice day.
