The ride to the hospital was quiet and quick, as much as was possible with mid-morning traffic. L scanned his feed, and quietly redirected Watari so they wouldn't be forced to pass the scene of the accident.
It was not long before they reached the hospital, and as soon as they did Light leaped out of the car. Briefly L considered the fact that he and Light were not connected by the chain, but he quickly brushed off the idea. Light wouldn't dare try anything now if he was Kira, not with so many people and cameras around. He asked Watari to park the car and unfolded himself from the seat, stepping out of the vehicle and shuffling after Light into the hospital.
When he walked through the doors, his senses were harassed by the unpleasant smell of sick people and burnt coffee, which seemed to be emitting from the gurgling machine in the corner of the room. He spotted Light at the front desk, and nodded to Light and the nurse when Light gestured to him. The nurse shook her head, and though L couldn't hear the altercation, he assumed it was the nurse informing him that only family was allowed.
Walking up to Light, L spoke softly, "It's alright Raito, I will wait here. Go see your mother." Light exhaled gently, relief clear in his eyes.
"Thank you, L. I won't be long."
"Don't worry, either way I'll be monitoring you," L replied. Light cringed slightly, but nodded his consent before turning and pushing through the doors that led to the rooms. L felt a presence behind him just as Watari murmured "There is a camera in the room, your phone has complete control as of 2 minutes ago." L bobbed his head once to show he had heard, then shuffled over to one of the hard plastic chairs, clambering up and crouching to survey the room.
There were not many people as of yet, only a little girl and her mother, a man who looked to be in his 20's with his arm around a woman who looked to be the same age, and a tired looking teenage boy.
L pulled out his phone and flicked through his text messages. There was one from Mello, complaining about the lack of quality chocolate at the orphanage, and a picture from Near of an impressive card tower. He made a note to congratulate him later. He switched over to the live video feed of the hospital room, and shot to his feet at what he saw.
It was Light.
