The continuous screeching of the hawks had all but caused Deryn to go insane . With the raft not completed everything was going down the drain. The bees were producing no honey because of the fact that they were isolated in the ocean. The hawks without the ability to eat after being tied up had started screeching for their freedom, Doctor Barlow said this came from the life threads of the red tailed hawk. The living quarters being sunk all hands were sleeping where they could, most on the spine but Deryn had not been luck enough to share this fate. With everything wrong it seemed more and more that the crew was depressed to the point of many lazing around and not listening to orders. The great Deryn Sharp would never stoop to such lows but did agree with the mentality the crew had adopted. Some had even heard rumors of mutiny.
