Hermione was shocked at Ginny's actions, almost having a heart attack when she went to walk out in to the road willy-nilly! Sending her off to the crossing Hermione turned and walked back to the office, god I'm gona really have to watch her while were in the city, she could get herself killed! She thought to herself.
Hermione got in to her office, said a quick hi to her collogues and headed to johns office. She knocked on the door and he called her in.
Forty minutes later, Hermione practically ran out the office drawing looks from the people around, once down on the street she hurried to the fox and the hound to meet Ginny hoping and praying, one: she was still there and two: if she was still there, she wasn't totally mad with her for taking so long!
Stopping outside the bar, she took a few breaths and straightened herself out in the reflection of the window, taking a deep breath she walked through the door.
Ginny was sat at the bar and Bex the bar manager was watching Hermione as she approached. Hermione noticed all the little glasses and the odd bottle on the bar. Once she got closer, she noticed Ginny was drinking a cocktail. Hermione brought her gaze up to meet Bex who was still staring at her. Narrowing her eyes at Bex she looked at the bar pointedly and then back up at her, Bex just smirked at her.
"Hello Mione," she purred still smirking.
Hermione just glared at the woman.
"Ginny!?" Hermione said tentatively placing a hand on her shoulder.
"Hermione!" she practically squealed. Spinning round on her stool and almost toppling off she beamed at Hermione.
"Have you ever tried this," she said gesturing to her drink. "It's called sex on the beach" she chuckled. "It's gorgeous, you've got to try it," she said spinning back round. "Look it comes with a little umbrella and everything" she finished taking another rather large gulp.
"I've been trying all these different drinks, but I like this one the best!" Ginny continued to prattle on.
Hermione's head snapped up to look at Bex, but Bex just raised her eyebrows dismissively.
"What's all this," she said quietly to Bex while Ginny was still prattling on to herself.
"What?" Bex replied innocently "she didn't know what sort of drink she liked, so I let her try a few different ones, just to get an idea!"
Hermione glared at her. "Oh really! Look at it all! It's not even lunchtime!... don't look at me like that" Hermione hissed, "this is the exact stunt you pulled on me, before you took advantage. Stop preying on innocent woman!" Hermione finished in an angry whisper.
"Huh hum" Ginny cleared her thought, looking at the two woman who were apparently having a whispered argument next to her.
Hermione looked over to Ginny, instantly dropping her scowl and replacing it with a sheepish look.
"Sorry I took so long Ginny, I really didn't mean to, I just couldn't get away" she finished lamely.
"Don't worry Hermione she was in good hands," piped in Bex.
Hermione shot daggers at her. "Thank you Becky," she ground out.
"Don't call me that," Bex mumbled with a scowl now on her face.
Ginny was getting down from her stool, "I'm just going to the ladies" she declared taking an unsteady step away from the bar, Hermione reached out to steady her and pointed her in the right direction.
Whoa, I think I'm drunk! Thought Ginny. Realizing this was not a good time to be drunk she pulled her wand out in the toilet and preformed a sobering charm on herself, she instantly felt the effects of the alcohol ware off. She sat there thinking about what she had witnessed out in the bar. Was Hermione having a go at that bartender for getting her drunk? She wasn't paying much attention and by the time Ginny realized there was a problem they had finished their whispered confab. Ginny couldn't decide if she was mad or flattered. Deciding not to think on it as she wasn't sure either way what was said, she finished up and went back to the bar. Ginny took her time getting to the bar, she observed the two women, the bar tender was staring at Hermione who was pointedly ignoring her. Reaching the bar, Bex stepped forward. The bar was now clear and no trace of her drinking activities remained.
"Sorry! I never got your name." Bex smiled looking Ginny in the eye, Ginny felt Hermione turn slightly to look over.
"It's Ginny." she replied glancing at Hermione out of the corner of her eye, but she couldn't read her expression.
"Well I'm Bex, I own this place," she said sweetly.
Hermione came forward, a bit closer to Ginny, "perhaps we could have a couple of coffees, over at one of the booths!" she gestured across the room, directing her question at Bex.
Bex knowing when she was being dismissed, smiled politely, nodded before giving Ginny one last look, and headed away.
Hermione walked away. Staying there a few seconds longer looking from one girl to the other Ginny shook her head and followed Hermione.
Bex came over with the coffees, placed one in front of Ginny smiling politely, and then practically slammed Hermione's down at her.
Ginny was watching Hermione, she didn't look very happy and Ginny couldn't help thinking it was her fault.
"You alright?" Ginny asked.
Looking up, Hermione met Ginny's gaze. The red head looked concerned, she looked sober!
"I'm fine, sorry just annoyed I left you waiting so long. How are you feeling?" she asked Ginny.
"Yeh fine, why?"
"Oh no reason, you just looked a bit….. well umm" she trailed off looking sheepish again.
"It's ok Hermione, you can say what you're thinking, I don't easily get offended!" Ginny interjected.
"No it's just… well, you pretty much staggered to the bathroom, but now you seem fine!?"
"Well,…. amazing what a bit of cold water on the face will do." she chuckled shrugging it off.
Hermione just stared at her and nodded a bit.
"So where are you going to take me to look at these phones then?" Ginny asked.
"Oh yeh! Finish up and we'll head out, I know a good place just down the street."
Hermione went up to settle the bill while Ginny finished her coffee. Ginny watched to two women interact with each other, their previous spat all but forgotten. They were both smiling, Bex laughing at something Hermione had said. Ginny hoped they were not talking about her. Getting paranoid, she got up to go over but Hermione had turned and was heading back towards her.
"Ready then?"
"Yep" replied Ginny.
"Good bye Hermione." said Bex in a singsong voice flashing a brilliant smile at the pair followed by a wink.
"Bye." replied Hermione over her shoulder, Ginny mealy nodded following Hermione out the door with a scowl crossing her face.
Ginny felt a bit annoyed, was that bar lady flirting with Hermione! She didn't know why that bothered her but it did.
Noticing Hermione looking her way, she wiped the scowl off and in a falsely bright tone said, "Where to then captain?"
Hermione gave her a bit of a look, then smiled and said "just down this way, come on, well cross at the lights." Ginny chuckled at this.
They walked on a bit in silence, then Hermione looked up and said, "So have you thought about what you want out of a phone?"
"Well I don't really know. What do you think?" inquired Ginny.
They chatted about phones the rest of the way to the shop, well Hermione talked and Ginny listened intently, knowing, although she would not get one today, she would have to get one eventually if she decided to work in the muggle world.
"So, I'll just point out a few good ones and you can touch and feel them, have a play and see what you like best." Hermione stated.
"Great," replied Ginny stepping into the shop.
As soon as the girls got in the shop, a guy came over "can I help you ladies? Oh hi Hermione," he said.
"Hi ben," greeted Hermione. "This is my friend Ginny." She introduced.
Ginny was smiling, not in greeting, but at the fact Hermione introduced her as her friend!
"Long time no see!" Said ben with a lopsided grin.
"I've been busy." Hermione replied sheepishly, ben just stared at her.
"So," Hermione continued. "Ginny here is after a phone so we'll just be over there having a browse," she finished gently steering Ginny away from ben and that awkwardness.
Hermione noticed Ginny giving her a funny look, "what!?" She asked.
"Nothing!" Ginny replied with a smirk.
They spent some time looking at different phones, "I quite like this one" Ginny concluded, Hermione made a note of it and they left.
"Let's grab a bite to eat and well head back," suggested Hermione.
"Um I don't really have enough money with me to eat out," Ginny said a bit embarrassed.
"Don't worry, my shout," Hermione replied.
"Are you sure? I'm very grateful thank you Hermione." said Ginny sincerely.
After they had lunch, they headed back to the car and drove back to the village. Hermione chatted about her work and past projects. Ginny was happy to let Hermione do all the talking, she found she liked listening to Hermione talk, she had such passion in what she did, Ginny envied her for that.
When Hermione quieted down Ginny wanted to strike up the next conversation but didn't know what to say, everything she did was so un-muggle! Whatever she thought to say would lead to questions being asked that she could not answer! So she just sat there quietly. Finally they were back and Ginny thanked her for a great day.
"Come by tomorrow, I mean if you're not busy, if you want, I mean you don't have to, whatever" she trailed off playing with her keys in her hand, feeling totally awkward Hermione rushed to the door barley touching the handle it opened up and she disappeared inside, leaving a dumfounded Ginny on the street.
