I followed Kidd Lelliet into the school. It is the duty of a Shinigami to follow their human until death do we part. He carried my Death Note in his bag. There was no leaving it to chance, he could not be allowed to lose a Death Note a second time. Kidd Lelliet doesn't seem to read Chinese but the rules of the Death Note are simple and I'm fairly certain he remembers them.
"So Anguish, I guess you'll be on my side."
"Normally a Shinigami never choses a side, but since I'll be reaping a benefit I will help you should you ask for it. But don't get comfortable, should I find you will be of no help to Key then I shall sentence you to death."
Kidd Lelliet didn't flinch; this was the answer he was expecting.
"In that case I'd like you to find all of the Shinigami in the school and who they're following."
"Asking a little much on the first go?"
"If I'm going to find a way to help Key and stop a war I know next to nothing about, you'll do me this small job."
"Very well, Kidd Lelliet."
So I flew away and I watched him enter the school. Kidd must know by now that Light Yagami, the boy walking along side him, was also in possession of a Death Note.
Ryuk shot me a wink from below and I shook it off. Ryuk is uch an annoying, troublesome, and popular Shinigami. I flew to the nurse's office where Fate was waiting for me.
"Have you brought Kidd Lelliet back?"
"Yes, I've done as instructed. I have to say, the gorilla was a bit of a set back. At least things worked out for us in the end."
"Good, the next phase of our plan will include us bringing Kidd to the Shinigami world."
"Not now of course?"
"No, not now, he hasn't been molded into the proper human to spark a war."
Fate floated to the window, watching the little mortal converse with the two faced Light Yagami. He smiled, his rotting blood breath permeating the room.
"If I may ask, Fate, why has Kidd been chosen as the Masaya? He seems rather ordinary to me?"
"It's because he seems ordinary. He holds the capacity to change the worlds, but he is also receptive to influence. He won't admit it but he can be swayed, as all humans can be."
"Wasn't Light Yagami a better choice? I know he was considered?"
"Yes, well Light's mind can only handle what he is prepared for, and though I'll admit his powers of deduction go far beyond that of any human and his ruthlessness goes beyond even that of Shinigami, he is weak and desperate for his ideals. Unlike Light, Kidd lacks conviction and solely motivated by self-interest. That means, when the time comes to kill the king, he will not betray us."
"But above all Kidd has the power to change the hearts of Shinigami, like he did to Key," said a third voice.
I turned around and Fate looked content. It's the nurse, so then, she's the human Fate has been following. I stared at her, analyzing her glasses, black ponytail, and prominent chest. I looked down at my dried petals and felt my thorns twitch in envy and despair. It's a very strange thing to think Shinigami can be jealous, especially of humans. What can I say; this one in particular is like an apple. I watched her mess with the buttons on her shirt... Juicy.
She continued to talk, taking off her glasses like a goddess, "As I'm sure you're already away Key was once one of the most dangerous Shinigami in existence, but since his arrival to the human world he has changed dramatically. He's been tamed, almost. Kidd Lelliet has a power that not even a God of Death can begin to understand: The Power of Honestly and Kindness. As cliché as it sounds it can just about do anything and control anyone."
Fate spoke now, his tattooed eye blinking in the wrinkles of his blue gray flesh, "Which moves us on to the next part of our plan."
I was silent when an terribly homely girl entered the room, with bushy eyebrows and a pointy nose. She too, carried a Death Note. She smiled, a fool in love.
"Say the word and it'll be done my guardian angel."
What an offensively strange human. I've heard about the kind that obsess over their overseeing Shinigami, but not in a hundred years had I seen one.
I had to ask, "What is the next step in the plan… regarding Kidd Lelliet?"
He smiled, if that's what you could call it, "We break him."
Meanwhile in the Shinigami world…
"This world is rotten…"
Uttered a familiar voice. Key, the Shinigami, sat in a cell of sand and time. He was awaiting trial with the old man, The Shinigami King. Key thought of Kidd Lelliet. He wondered how the boy was fairing in an innocent life without Death Notes, or Fate, or murder. He was carefree now, not even Kira could hurt him. Kidd was safe now from any evil plot that could come his way.
Key closed his eyes and felt the sunshine from the human world. Yes, he remembered coming into existence one day. He didn't know anything; he only knew that he had to exist. The King came and gave him and name and a notebook. Key remembered looking into the human world, a very bored God of Death, who spent his days coming up with creative ways to kill the masses off. He hated the humans, they had what he could only dream of, sunlight. Sometimes Key would look at himself for hours, was it the sunlight that made humans so different from Shinigami? Was that why they were full of life? The other Gods of Death we content; bored, but content. So why couldn't Key find happiness in day-to-day existence? Was it really the sunlight?
He remembered the first time he ventured to the human world and experienced the sunlight. He soaked it in, it's warm glow washed away all of his memories of the Shinigami world. Even so he still wasn't happy. The sunlight was not what he was missing. Though it provided a moment's relief, it wasn't what was separating the Shinigami and the humans. What was it though? He spent forever observing the humans but could never understand why they were so Happy and why the Shinigami were so Empty.
"And then it all made sense."
"What was that?"
Key looked up at Nu, who appeared with apples of the Shinigami world.
"I brought you some food."
"You know I don't want it."
"You caught me, I've come to do something for you."
"What could you possibly do for me?"
"It's no favor on my part, it was just some command from the old man."
"The King? What did he send you in here to do?"
The eyes on Nu's body began to glow, "I'll show you the boy."
Key was able to see Kidd Lelliet, with Anguish and Light and Ryuk. Key shook in his chambers and hurled himself toward Nu, only to be stopped by the sands of time, hurling him back into his place.
"You have to help him Nu!"
Nu was taken aback, "What are you talking about?"
"Nu! You have to help Kidd Lelliet! Please!"
"Help him? A human? The only help I'd be willing to lend would be writing his name down in my death note."
"Don't play games with me or I'll pop your eyes out!"
"Words of a criminal."
"Damn it Nu! You know as well as I do that I haven't been collecting Death Notes! I'm not a criminal!"
Nu was suddenly against the barrier between them, "Key, you must be silenced now."
"Not until you agree to save Kidd!"
Key continued to shout, Nu backed away and began to leave.
"Nu! Promise you'll save Kidd! He's the only human who deserves a normal life! Save him damn it!"
"Key, you should know better than anyone… Shinigami don't make promises."
With that Nu left Key to his screaming and shouting. He clawed at his boundaries and chains. He screamed and screamed all through the night.
Woah my God so I can't even remember where I was going with the original storyline. I think L was supposed to appear but this story is changing so dramatically I can't even remember what was supposed to happen. I mean I made notes but I lost them and honestly I think this is so much cooler than what I had in mind anyway. In all seriousness "That Escalated Quickly" has never applied more to anything. This story was supposed to really be a composition of derp moments between a Shinigami and Otaku but it's becoming so much more than that. I hope you like where this is going and I'd really like TO HEAR BACK FROM YOU! XD So please review… PLEASE!
