"Well, well, well. Look who we have here?" the Master smirked evilly. Rose stopped and trembled. "Who - who the hell are you?" she demanded, trying to be brave. For some reason, he scared the shit out of her, but she didn't even know who he was. He put an offended look on his thin face covered with rough stubble but then laughed madly. "Hasn't the Doctor mentioned me to his favorite companion? I'm the Master." he grinned. She stepped back, touching the earpiece fixed into her ear. "Doctor, are you hearing this?" she said quietly. The Master waited patiently, but the Doctor didn't reply. "What's happened?" She yelled. "What've you done?" The Master laughed, and it sent shivers down Rose's spine.
"Who's a bit passionate on the subject?" He asked in the middle of laughing. Rose leapt forward and swung her fist at him but his own knuckles smashed into her jaw, sending her toppling to the floor."Has the Doctor moved?" the Master asked sweetly, kneeling to the ground where she lay. She glared at him. "As a matter of fact, yes!" She snapped. He made a surprised face. "Really? Are you being honest?"
"Of course I'm not being honest! Are you thick or something?" Rose spat. The Master smacked her across the face, leaving a red welt on her cheek and breathing through gritted teeth. "Don't get clever with me, you bitch!" he shouted. She felt hot, wet tears squeezing out of her eyes and quickly wiped them away, not wanting the Master to see that he was being triumphant by hurting her. She took a few deep breaths. "Look, I don't remember where the Doctor is." she begged. The Master snarled at her and leaned into her face, where she could smell his breath - like rotting flesh. "You're lying." he snarled. "And what if I am?" she asked coldly. "What are you gonna do about it?" He looked at her with cold brown eyes, and her heart felt like it was trying to burst out of her chest. He smiled a little. "Actually, I'd prefer it if the Doctor were to see it."
"Why?"
"Revenge would be so sweet…"
"Why are you stalling like this?"
"Stalling? Darling, I'm only just capturing Blue."
I stared into the blackness, trying to see the person in the tunnel. "Oh, Blu-ue!" someone sang. My gut sank as I recognized that voice, and Bill beside me trembled in fear. "Go, go, go!" I whispered hurriedly at Bill. The man backtracked and began sprinting through the dark corridors, and I could hear gentle, slow, casual footsteps following us. "Did you enjoy that little memory I sent your way?" the Master wondered. I didn't answer, and our feet pounded a little too loudly on the rails beneath our feet. "Keep going!" I yelled at Bill, figuring that since he already knew we were here I didn't need to be quiet just as long as we kept running. Suddenly, we heard an inhuman roar and the sound of something whooshing through the air. I dropped to the ground and Bill did the same, thinking that the Master had thrown something as us, but instead I heard the sound of feet crashing onto the ground in front of us and raucous, maniacal laughter. Apparently, he'd jumped superhumanly high and far to be in front of us… unless there were two of him. I shook that theory out of my head, remembering the whooshing and the sound of feet landing on the ground. Bill got up, his face ashen. "You okay?" I asked.
He wheezed a little."I been better…" he panted. I nodded and sympathized with him as the Master slowly, calmly, stepped toward us. As he got closer I began to be able to make him out through the darkness. His hands were behind his back and he was grinning madly, his white teeth seeming like they glowed in the dark. I shivered and started backing up, but Bill didn't move. "Bill!" I murmured, touching his arm. He didn't even acknowledge me, only stood very, very still, as if the Master wouldn't be able to see him if he didn't move. "Bill, come on!"
"Yes, Bill. You'd better go with her, or else what happened to your precious wifey-poo might happen to you."
Bill trembled violently, and the Master laughed. Suddenly, he lunged forward, snatched Bill's neck, and pulled him in. Before I could see what was happening, Bill's skeleton dropped to the floor with the sound of bone clanking on stone. "Oh, that was delicious. I wonder if you'd taste even better?" the Master wondered, licking his lips and beginning to advance on me. Part of me wanted to beat the shit out of him, because even though I'd only known Bill for like five minutes, I'd liked him. Why else would I want to help him? But another part of me wanted to run, run far away from him. I didn't want that to happen to me too. The Master smiled wickedly at me. "You better run too, Blue. Better run." Sweat beaded on the back of my neck. But then I heard, "Blue! Run! Get outta here!" Rose. Hadn't I been searching for her and the Doctor all this time? I whirled around and sprinted down the corridor toward her voice, but ended up in the strong arms of just another Master. I spastically wriggled out of his grasp and sprinted in the opposite direction, but skidded to a halt when I saw the other Master advancing toward me like a predator toward prey. Again, I whirled and ran, but the second Master was closer this time. I kept turning and turning until I was dizzy and I could barely stand, and then they sent pulses of energy into my chest and back. A scream ripped out of my mouth and then I collapsed on the floor, blacking out.
"What d'you mean, you're capturing Blue? You're here!" Rose pointed out. The Master rolled his eyes. "Really, d'you think I'm that stupid? Hasn't the Doctor told you of my superior intelligence, darling?"
"Don't call me that. You're a twit!"
"Whatever you say, dear. Anyways, I've created several clones of myself using the bodies of humans and a modified Immortality Gate that broadcasts only short distances. What d'you think I do with all the filthy stinking humans locked up in cages like the primitive apes they are? I make them me." he grinned. Rose snarled at him. "You're disgusting." she spat. The Master placed two hands on his hearts as if he was touched and she'd just paid him a compliment. "I try, dear, I really do." he laughed and stood tall. He reached down and scooped up a fistful of blonde hair and hauled Rose to her feet, dragging her behind him while he strode down the corridor and into a small room, in which there were several large-dog-sized cages. The Master stuffed her into one and locked it, shoving the key into the pockets of his dirty black jeans. "Now I'll be back in two ticks - just going to get the Doctor. Stay here." he mocked her, striding toward the door of the room. She pressed herself against the bars of her cage with panic. "No! Don't hurt him!" she begged. The Master roared with laughter and turned toward her briefly. "Oh, no. I would never hurt your precious Doctor. No, I'll do so much more than that." he spat. He walked out of the room. Rose looked around frantically and the other people in the other cages snarled and growled and howled like wild animals. She trembled and nervously glanced at the person huddled into a ball in the cage next to her. The ball uncurled and looked up at her with curious gray eyes. "Hello, I'm Rose." Rose stuttered. The girl sat up and tilted her head. "I'm not." she said with a deep, masculine voice that momentarily took Rose by surprise. "What?" she asked gently. "I'm not Rose."
"Oh. Who are you, then?"
"What? I'm Wyn. It's Welsh. You know."
Rose nodded. "Oh." Wyn shrugged a little. "What is this place?" Rose asked.
"It's the intensive care unit."
"What does that mean?"
"We're considered 'dangerous'." Wyn said, making air quotes.
"How're you dangerous?" Rose asked.
"Because, he made me go through tests, and I remembered, and I tried to kill him. I got labeled 'insane'."
"Oh," Rose murmured.
"Got a problem with that?"
"No! No, not at all."
Wyn smirked a little. "Good." She turned her back on Rose, making it clear she was done talking. Rose leaned back, dull panic coursing through her body. She couldn't let the Master hurt or kill the Doctor. But what could she do? Then the door opened. She looked up. It was a different Master, wheeling in a cage that had a ball of dark hair and black cloth in it. He wheeled it next to her. Rose looked through the bars and saw who it was. Blue! "Blue!" She cried, forcing her hand through the bar and poking her gently. She moaned a little. "Blue!" She cried again. Blue looked up, and a small smile flickered on her face. "Hey."
"OhmyGod! Blue, what the hell happened to you?" Blue almost looked like she'd lost five pounds, her skin was covered in bruises, and she looked exhausted. "There were two Masters... Shot blue energy into me... Again. I don't feel like I've got any energy left." She sighed a little, and her shoulders lurched forward. "Oh, Blue." Rose whispered. But then another door opened, and the real Master came in, wheeling another cage in. He shoved Wyn's cage aside and moved it on Rose's other side. She looked over, and horror burst throughout her. Inside the cage was the Doctor. And he looked ten times worse than he had when she left.
I gasped when I saw the state the Doctor was in. He looked like he'd lost ten pounds, and he was in a pool of vomit and dried and undried blood. His skin didn't even look flesh colored: it looked like it was made entirely out of bruises. When the Master had said that the Doctor may regenerate if he didn't get help, I'd shrugged it off, unable to believe it. But he looked like he was on the brink of death."Doctor..." Rose whispered, her eyes looking like shattered glass. He looked up and tried to smile, but couldn't and ended up spitting up blood. It was horrible and I felt like I was gonna cry, but crying took too much energy. So I just gripped the bars and stared. The Master unlocked Rose's cage and yanked her roughly out. "Rose..." The Doctor whispered, trying to get up, but he didn't have enough strength and fell back down to the cage's floor. I winced. The Master shoved Rose to the floor. He smiled a little and glanced at the Doctor, and I could tell that he knew the Doctor was in love with Rose. The Doctor was struggling to get up and failing horribly. I was also struggling to move the bars in my cage but I couldn't.
The Master looked down at Rose. "Any last words, dear?" He said coldly. Rose looked over at the Doctor's cage. Say it! Flipping say it! This could be your last chance! Say it sayit sayit! But she didn't say anything. She must've thought that communicating through the eyes was good enough, even though it isn't.
Finally she dropped her gaze and looked down. The Master licked his lips and rubbed his hands together, then suddenly swooped down and his fist violently connected with Rose's jaw. The Doctor clung to the iron bars of his cage, his arm reaching out as far as it could and he screamed before his scream was cut off by the spurting of blood from his lips. I watched silently, panic flowing through my veins, as the Master snatched a fistful of Rose's beautiful blonde hair and socked her again, making her crumple to the floor. He laughed maniacally and glanced at the Doctor, an evil grin on his wicked - and I really, really hated to admit it, but hot - face. The Doctor was trembling violently, either out of rage or just his general physical condition or both, and I could see tears mixing in with the blood on his face. "Please… please, Master." he whispered. The Master kicked Rose hard in the belly and then jumped over her crumpled body and leaned in close to the Doctor's cage. "What?" he demanded. The Doctor looked at him with wide, fearful brown eyes. "What is it, Doctor?"
"Please, Master. Do whatever you like to me, anything, just leave her alone! Don't hurt her!" the Doctor begged pitifully. The Master casually looked over his shoulder at Rose and sighed. "Oh, Doctor. Doctor, Doctor, Doctor. Doctor. Is she really that important to you? I mean, look at her, Doctor. Well, she's better than that rubbish doctor-in-training you had, but still! I mean, what's so special about Rose Tyler?" the Master wondered, putting emphasis on that last sentence. I looked at the Doctor expectantly. What the hell is he going to say? A dribble of vomit spilled off of his lips and he looked back into the Master's eyes. "Please." he rasped one more time. The Master chuckled wickedly and shook his head. "No, Doctor. I want. To. Know." he spat.
"Please don't hurt her."
"Why?"
"Because she's my Rose."
"What makes 'your Rose' so special, Doctor? What makes her different from this demented bitch?" the Master demanded, waving a hand at Wyn. She looked up and snarled at him, sorta proving his point. He snarled back and rolled his eyes at the Doctor, making a sorta See? What did I tell you? face. The Doctor glanced from Wyn to Rose and then back at the Master. "What makes her different?" the Master hissed again. I looked back over to Wyn and saw she was staring fiercely at Rose, who was trying to crawl away as quietly as she could, but her clothing on the chilling concrete floor created a muffled scraping. The Master heard it, but the Doctor saw where Wyn and I were looking and quickly thought of something to say. "Nothing!" he shouted quickly, stopping to cough some blood onto his sleeve. The word instantly caught the Master's attention and he seemed to forget all about Rose. "What?"
Keep it up, Doctor!
"Go on, then! Kill her!"
"What?"
"Kill Rose Tyler. I never needed her, anyway. I just needed someone to keep me company while I looked for you."
"I - erm, I don't - "
"Don't you see? You thick-headed, bloody idiot!" the Doctor pleaded, reaching out and grasping the Master's black hoodie with one weak hand and pulling him close. "I love you. I've always loved you." the Doctor whispered, pulling the Master closer. Their lips were almost touching when the Master reached his hand through the iron bars and pushed the Doctor's face away, abruptly standing and growling. "You're lying." he snarled before whirling around and finding Rose, almost to the door. In a wave of blind rage, he grabbed her ankles and dragged her, kicking and screaming, to him, then flipped her over and straddled her, beating her senseless with his wrathful fists. The sickening crush of his knuckles on her gentle face made me want to puke, and I turned away as the Doctor couldn't tear his panicked, wide eyes away. Suddenly, two arms locked around the Master's neck, a frenzied yowl escaped someone's lips, and Wyn's teeth sunk into the Master's throat. He immediately let go of Rose and began bucking like a horse, trying to rid himself of the girl, but she remained latched onto him, clawing and biting him in various places. In all of his panic, the key flipped out of his pocket and luckily landed near my cage. I reached out and snatched it up, then opened my cage and rushed to the Doctor's hurriedly jamming the key into his lock. Please, please work! The key did its work: it opened the Doctor's cage with no problem. I shoved the key into my pocket and helped the Doctor up hurriedly, trying to avoid the Master and Wyn as they stampeded around the room, one screaming with pain and rage, and the other screaming with rage and despair. The Doctor stooped down and tried to help Rose to her feet, but he ended up vomiting blood on the both of them, so I steadied him against the door and grabbed Rose, lifting her and she tried desperately to take all the weight off of my shoulders as she could, but she was understandably weak and nearly unable to move from the trauma the Master had delivered to her. I lifted the Doctor's arm around the opposite shoulder and was nearly crushed underneath the weight of them both, but we kept struggling down the corridor. "I'm sorry, Wyn…" I whispered, tears streaming down my face. I can't make it. My pace came slower, my breath more ragged. Come on, Blue. Push. You can do it. The Doctor and Rose felt like deadweights on my shoulders. "Come on, Blue!" I gasped at the voice that suddenly made its way into my head, and that gasp was my mistake. I crumpled, and the Doctor and Rose crumbled on top of me. I struggled for breath underneath their ragged bodies and the Doctor pushed himself off of me and tried to drag Rose off of my body as well. When I could finally breathe, a scream ripped through the air and pierced my ears, but I immediately knew whose scream it was. Wyn was getting slaughtered, and not by the more-pleasant-than-not energy bolts streaming from the Master's hands. Whatever he was doing to her, it was causing her unimaginable agony. The Doctor and Rose were already on their feet, leaning heavily against each other and hobbling as fast as they could down the hallway. I lost myself in the spectacle looking at them for a moment, they way they would do absolutely anything for each other. The screaming abruptly stopped and I knew it was time to go. I jumped to my feet and sprinted to the two, squeezing between them and helping them along their way. I heard the Master's ragged footsteps behind us, the pounding of his boots on the concrete, his animalistic growls. I urged them to go faster, but the Master was inside my head and I had to collapse, overtaken by the tortuous pounding of the drums knocking around in my skull. I curled into a ball and heard the shuffling of the injured's footsteps stop. "Doctor…" Rose mumbled, her voice broadcasting the pain she felt. He dragged her on, not even stopping to look back at me, tortured as I was. "If any of us are going to survive it'll be us now, Rose. She's got no chance; he's inside her head."
As Rose grudgingly let the Doctor carry her on, I couldn't help but to feel a pang of desertion as the Master stood triumphantly above me. I could just barely hear his voice about the pounding drumbeats. 1-2-3-4. "Where's your hero now, bitch?" 1-2-3-4. "You're mine." 1-2-3-4. His long fingers working through my hair. 1-2-3-4. The stabbing sensation flowing like tidal waves through my scalp as he started dragging me across the floor. 1-2-3-4. 1-2-3-4. 1-2-3-4.
