We'd don't need nobody Because we got each other
Or at least I pretend
Body Electiric~Lana Del Rey
Natsume stood in the hallway that lead to Mikan's room. He pulled his phone out of his pocket and dialed his mum. She didn't pick up the first or the second time and by this time Natsume was growing a bit impatient. He dialed once more and on the second ring this time she picked up, "Mum, where are you?"
"I'm out with your dad an Yuka-san. Where are youuu?" Her speech was a bit slurred and he could hear loud music in the background.
"Mum, are you drunk?!"
"Oh hardly, dear." He heard glasses clink together.
"Fine okay whatever. What time are you coming back? I am stuck babysitting Aoi."
"How? Aren't you supposed to be at Ruka's? Where is Mikan-chan?"
"He lives across the street, mum. And the girl went to work or something."
"Don't call her the girl! We might not be back till morning because we are having fun. Keep Mikan some company and get to know her. She's lovely you'll like her."
Natsume faked a tired sigh and in an annoyed voice said, "Okay, fine I guess." He ended the call and went into Mikan's room.
He began to explore the room. She had pale blue colored walls and flower patterned sheets on her bed. Aoi was inside the conjoined bathroom while Natsume walked around stopping in front of her vanity. He reached for a random drawer and slid it open, inside it held Mikan's underwear. 'Pandas, strawberries, and polka-dots...cute' Natsume thought as he slid the drawer back into place.
Aoi excited out of the bathroom in her pyjamas and climbed on the bed. "Onii-chan, what did you think of Mikan? Do you like her?"
"Yeah, I guess. She's cute isn't she?"
"Well don't even think about it. She is way out of your league," Aoi said emphasizing the 'way' and settling herself in to Mikan's bed, "Now tell me a story. You always told really cool stories."
Natsume scoffed and turned of the lights before he sat on the bed next to his younger sister. "Fine, I'll tell you the story of the young girl who loved to dance. She could dance for days without stopping and she would never be tired. Then one day a boy who never liked anything fell in love with the way the dancer moved and how it made him feel. He wanted to keep that feeling forever but of course he had no chance. The dancer wouldn't even give him a second glance. So he was satisfied with getting up to watch her twirl in the morning sun. And one day out of no where she was not there and he knew something had gone wrong. He found out she was to be married to an evil old man who'd make her dance till her feet bled. And on the day of the dreaded wedding, contrary to the boy's belief, she didn't need any saving. She was at his door before dawn with nothing but a small bag that held her favorite shoes and book. She asked the boy to take her away and he did not refuse. He took her far, as far as she wanted to go. And then finally when they were far enough he finally asked why she chose to go with him, a total stranger? She smiled and said because I like you. I like how you just watch and that's enough for you. She told him she'd dance for him for as long as he wanted in thanks but he shook his head and said he would rather she teach him. For when she left he'd be terribly alone and he'd have the feeling of her dancing to remember her. But in the time between his lessons and her departure she had fallen in love with him and to this day they both dance happily for each other...The End."
"How cool," The 14 year old mumbled before drifting to sleep.
Natsume's eyelids began to feel heavy and with Mikan not home yet his eyes shut and within mere moments he was transported to dreamland.
He wasn't able to begin enjoying he dream before he was awakened by the soft click of the bedroom door being open. Natsume knew Mikan was home from the way the dark figured fumbled around trying not to make noise as she clumsily made her way around her room. He decided to keep quiet rather than making his presence known and more than likely scaring her and waking up Aoi.
Mikan tip-toed to her vanity where she kept her PJ's. She slid one open feeling around for a shirt and some pants. Without turning on the lights she rid herself of her work clothes and got into her night clothes, she was able to properly put on her pants after the second try.
"Kami...why must people be so stressful?" She whispered to herself as she plopped onto her bed and landed on something much firmer than her mattress.
"If it's stress you've got I can certainly help," Natsume said with a smirk and damn it all Mikan could see it right through the darkness.
And of course with Mikan's slow reactions she was only able to let out a small squeal before she was being carried out of her own bed by a stranger. He had one hand over her mouth and the other around the small of her back stopping half way across her abdomen and it kept her only a few inches above the ground since he wasn't much taller than her. He brought her with him to the bedroom door, "Promise you won't scream?" He whispered into her ear making her squirm slightly in his arms.
She began nodding her head finally recognizing his voice. He removed his hand from over her mouth and set her down. He opened the door and pulled her into the hallway with him. "What. The. Literal. Hell. What the hell was that for?! Why were you in my bed?! Why are you even still in my house, Hyuuga?!" Mikan hissed at him her cheeks becoming red from rage.
"Thought we were on a first name basis now. And I kind of dozed of while waiting for you to get back." He gave her a crooked smile.
"They're out drinking aren't they?" Mikan rubbed her temples.
"Pretty much and I think Ruka's mum is out too, so I'm locked out of there till he gets back," Natsume stuffed his hands in his pockets.
Mikan got that sad look in her face again when his best friend's name came up. Natsume raised a brow, "You like Ruka don't you?"
Mikan looked up suddenly her cheeks becoming pink once more, "W-what? No of course not. Hotaru has gotten a bit interested in him and I can't get between them because he seems to really like her."
Natsume noticed how Mikan bit her lip to keep her emotions in check. "You got this look when he asked Imai and again when I mentioned him," he smirked at her blushing face.
She glared up at him, "Shut up! You don't know anything! You don't know me!"
He leaned against the wall giving her a crooked smile, "Well I know you sing and dance and that you've got great legs, but that's just the obvious and way above the surface...isn't it?"
Mikan pursed her lips, annoyed by his arrogance, "Well aren't I lucky, Mr. Popular Playboy has shown a sudden interest in me," She crossed her arms and rolled her eyes.
Natsume smiled smugly. When he leaned he was the same height at her. He Stared right into her olive green eyes as she glared at him. The stare down didn't last long, Mikan looked away throwing her hands up and sighing in defeat. "Fine this is absolutely pointless. Have you eaten? Are you hungry?"
"Nah. I took Aoi out for burgers earlier." Natsume answered as he followed behind her down the stairs and into the kitchen.
He leaned against the doorframe as he watched her fix herself a bowl of fruit. She pushed him into the living room with her free hand and she plopped down onto the couch bringing him down with her making him sit next to her. Mikan sat crossed legged and put a piece of strawberry in her mouth, "Okay since I am a nice person and there isn't much to do I'll allow you to stay. But we don't know much about each other so it's about time don't you think. So let's get our facts straight and play 20 questions. You seem to know more about me than I'd like you to so I'll go first."
After Natsume agreed with a nod she continued, "Okay I've heard a few things from reliable sources so I guess what's your favorite food is a good start."
Natsume smiled at the chance to make her feel uncomfortable and make her blush again he leaned in real close and in a low voice he muttered, "I like...little girls, like you."
She blinked twice with a bored expression on her face, as if she was used to people being so close. She picked out a grape from the bowl and examined it, "You're too close," she threw the grape at him.
He backed away laughing softly. "I heard you stopped dancing, why?"
She popped a slice of pineapple into her mouth, "It was this stress disorder thing, it made me want to hurl every time I saw a crowd," she said bluntly as if she ad said it a thousand times before, "Hmm how many girls have you shagged, because of course you're no virgin."
The corner of his mouth went up in an almost smile, "There have been a few not sure how many but I am not a big fan of the girls that just throw themselves at me. Who was your first snog?"
Mikan looked up trying to remember, "Uhm, I cant remember his name. I think it was something like Kaito. I don't know it was at a concert I went to last year," she shrugged, "
They continued asking each other questions making sure that they knew the same about the other, absorbing each detail that came out of the others mouth. Mikan let Natsume think he was actually getting somewhere in getting to know her but he was dead wrong. She thought of each answer carefully trying not to reveal too much.
She came down to her final question and she thought about it hard coming up with nothing more she wanted to know she asked something that had been bothering her for a bit, "Why are you so set on trying to get to know me?"
He gave her another almost smile, "Easy, I want to get to know you because you are interesting. I have never had anyone who could make me talk for more than five minutes." He looked over at her and thought of his final question, "What colour are your underwear?"
As if expecting something like this she lifted her pyjama pants a bit and peeked, "They are red," she reported with a glint of amusement in her eyes she smiled up at him, "Now we are acquainted," she added.
Natsume looked down at her in her polka-dotted PJ's and her mischievous little smile and remembered how she responded to the most uncomfortable questions he had asked with a straight face. She had choked on one question that she had decided to pass which got her a new seat in between his legs; however, even then she kept up her unfazed front.
Mikan leaned back onto Natsume's firm chest making herself comfortable, "I get the feeling you have at least one questions you are still itching to ask. I'll give you a freebie so shoot."
She was right Natsume had forgotten to ask about the boy from the afternoon, he had to be sure of what he'd have to go up against, "Yeah that blue haired guy from the afternoon, who is he?"
"Tsubasa, he's a childhood friend. I met him back in elementary and he's completely in love with Misaki he just doesn't know it yet."
"The teacher?!"
"No, ugly! The girl who was lead singer of the underground girl band until her parents sent her to like military school."
"Ugly? Hadn't heard that one before. Although you say he likes that girl he looks like he's into you or something."
"He's confused. He hasn't been able to communicate with Misaki since she left about two years ago."
Natsume wasn't quite convinced that was the case with the afternoon discussion he had with the boy but he left it alone since it wasn't his place to say anything more. He let the silence settle and Mikan was about to lose it. She couldn't stand the quiet. "Have you seen The Breakfast Club?" Mikan asked getting rid of the quiet.
"Nope. Are we watching it?"
"Hell yes! You have not lived!" She jumped from where she was sitting and disappeared into the kitchen to reappear a few minutes later with a bowl of popcorn. She handed it to Natsume and slid in the DVD before taking a seat next to Natsume.
He gave her a look, "You can't move till you say it."
"Fine, five. There have been about five more or less. Now watch the movie," she placed her small hand on his cheek and turned his face to the screen.
Natsume left it at that because it's not like he was any different. At least she could count hers with the fingers on her hands. He looked at her one more time, she wasn't blushing or even uncomfortable which meant she didn't care what he thought about it, which made him wonder why she didn't want to say it. He turned back to the screen to watch the movie.
Throughout the movie he saw her mouth the words to some of the parts. He saw her laughing gently and eventually she ended up leaning on his shoulder getting more comfortable on the couch. He hadn't noticed she'd dozed of until the film had finished and she wasn't moving, her breathing was slow and steady. He reached for the remote to shut of the TV and continued to place her in a more comfortable position next to him. He laid next to her and wrapped an arm around her waist to ensure she wouldn't roll off the couch. He buried his head into her hair, which was a terrible idea it was all over his face and it tickled. He gave up that idea and sent Ruka a quick text telling him where he was staying before succumbing to the darkness.
