Authors note: Sorry this has been a long time coming and that it is so short. However, hopefully this leaves some very, very happy! School is back in session (I took summer courses and now fall is back in and only had 3 weeks out total all summer), so my writing has been the last thing on my mind! Hope you enjoy but please...if possible leave me some feedback! I love to know what you all think!
"Nephrite, what have you learned for me?" I watched as the General bowed, the faraway look in his eyes suggesting that my brain washing was still working.
"My lady, they are back at the Elysion. Serenity has her Generals and Endymion's on her side. They are protecting her." I shook my head and sighed. Standing up from my throne I walked towards Nephrite.
"Go back, I want you to give them a message for me. I want them to know exactly who their enemy is!" Nephrite nodded and as I began to detail my plan I saw a smirk come over his face. When Nephrite left I sat back down and picked up the crown I had taken from the Queen's head after I killed her. I placed it on top of my head and smiled. And to think, they'd said I'd never be Queen. I'll show them, all of them. I'll use all of their own against them and take what should have been mine to begin with! Soon…soon it will all be mine!
I carried Serenity out in my arms and down into my room. She had woken up briefly not long after she had fallen asleep, but after seeing I was still holding her she fell back asleep. I was about to my door when I saw Nephrite walk towards me. He had the same faraway look that Kunzite had when he was brainwashed. I jostled Serenity in my arms a bit until I saw her eyes open, with a low whisper I told her to run and get her guardians and mine. I saw at first a flicker of sleepiness then alertness register in her eyes. I set her down on the ground and watched as she ran towards the dining room where hopefully her guardians were.
Nephrite slowly approached me and I held out a hand to his chest. "Where have you been?" I saw a sly smile come across his face as he eyed Serenity. The mere thought of him hurting her made my stomach churn. "Answer me!"
"Endymion, I have a message for the Princess. Will you fetch her for me?"
"Absolutely not, whatever you have to say you will tell me. Now I demand you tell me where you've been!" Nephrite chuckled and shook his head.
"That's the beauty of it Endymion, I don't have to tell you anything. I don't work for you anymore. My master is someone much more powerful than you could ever dream of being. Ah, here comes the Princess now." I turned and saw Serenity coming towards me, however she was alone.
"Hello Nephrite, what can I help you with today?" I watched with amazement as Serenity stepped in front of me, standing without any indication of fear. It was as if she was trying to protect me, and not the other way around.
"Hello Serenity, I have a message for you from my master. She thinks it's time you two had a nice long talk. Just the two of you." I felt my heart drop to my stomach and reached around and put my arm around Serenity's stomach. However, to my dismay she stepped out of my hold.
"Endymion," she said turning to me, "I am going. If she wants to speak with me then perhaps we can settle things." I looked down at her flabbergasted and furious. My anger must have shown in my eyes as she took a step back from me.
"Are you outside of your mind? She tried to kill you and did kill your mother! We have no idea who this person is or exactly how strong they are. You are not going, and you are certainly not going alone! I forbid it!" I watched as Serenity's eyes went from her usual light blue to a dark blue color I had yet to see.
"You have no right to forbid me to do anything. You are not my king nor my husband. How dare you try and control my life?" She turned towards Nephrite. "I will go and meet your master." Before she could walk off I grabbed a hold of her arm, holding on as tightly as I could without harming her.
"Please Serenity," I pleaded with her, "don't do this. There is no need for you to go with Nephrite. We need to talk to our guardians about this before making any rash decisions. At least wait a few days to do this."
"Will you allow me to go then?" I could hear the disdain dripping from her voice, and it destroyed me to have her feel this way towards me. However, I knew it was in her best interest.
"Yes, I will." I watched as she sighed then turned towards Nephrite.
"Nephrite, in two days come for me. I will come and speak to your master then." I watched as Nephrite smiled a sly smile then vanished into thin air. I let go of Serenity's arm and watched as she walked past me, not even looking in my direction. I sighed but resigned myself to figuring out a way to avoid her going alone. I decided to find Kunzite and inform him of the latest development.
"These grounds are beautiful, how much of a hand do you have in the landscape?" I watched as Princess Venus leaned down to pick up a daisy and smell of it. I had been showing her around the grounds so that she could get a feel of the castle. She was the most beautiful woman I had ever seen, she had eyes that could pierce straight through my soul and a smile that melted it all the same.
"Well," I said, "Endymion has most of the say. However these daisies were my idea, he wanted roses everywhere for some reason. But I eloquently explained to him that there needed to be a hint of yellow somewhere." I leaned down and picked up another daisy and placed it inside of her hair. As she smiled I could feel warmth spread across my face for the first time I could ever remember.
"Kunzite, I must admit when I first met you I had imagined you to be much colder than you are." She smirked and leaned against a tree, looking up at me with an extremely mischievous look.
"Well I'm sure you understand, as the leader of Serenity's guardians, how much of a wall we have to put up to those we don't know." I saw a flash of sadness strike her eyes, one that I understood completely. Leaders and protectors like ourselves could never stray from our duties, we were sworn to protect. Personal relationships, romantic or otherwise were frowned upon. Ironically enough for her, the planet she served and that in turn served her, represented love…a love that she would never be allowed to feel. I stroked her cheek and watched as a single tear fell from the corner of her ocean eyes and onto my thumb.
"I just….I just want for once to live my own life! I love Serenity but, serving her and the universe…it is so tiring. For once I would like to be able to feel my own happiness and not worry that it would end the world." She sighed and wiped another tear away. "I'm sorry, I should go it isn't proper for you to see me like this." As she started to walk off I grasped onto her hand and squeezed, I too knew what it was like to be afraid of being happy. To put up walls and never let them down, and standing here staring at this goddess before me I couldn't help but let myself feel the passion I had guarded away. She must have seen the conflict in my eyes because she blushed and bowed her head. "We can't….we would both be breaking vows we made to our planets and ourselves." Yet as she said that she stepped closer towards me. Slowly I leaned down and swept back a wisp of her hair, as she closed her eyes and leaned into my hand I could feel my last resolve slip away.
Pulling her closer into me I softly brushed her lips with mine, I felt her gasp and quickly pulled away only to be pulled back by her hand.
"Kunzite?" I turned around the find Endymion standing 50 feet away from us with a smirk on his face as he took in our compromising position. "Sorry to um…interrupt however we have an emergency." I could feel Venus step out from behind me and almost instantly turn back into guardian mode, I silently cursed whatever emergency this may be knowing that this would probably be the only time Venus would ever let her guard down again.
"Prince Endymion," she said, "what is the problem?" I watched Venus walk towards Endymion and away from the best moment in my existence.
