You won't realize it's over
Till you slip into unconsciousness
And the moment takes over
Death of the Robot with Human Hair~Dance Gavin Dance
"I absolutely don't know how you did it though. How did you get her to dance with you?" Ruka asked rubbing his chin after Natsume had finished his rant.
"I don't know man, it kind of just happened. She was teaching Aoi and I asked if that was all she had and I guess she took it as a challenge," Natsume shrugged.
Ruka laughed softly at a memory that came to him, "Yeah she definitely hates that. I remember when we were kids she always knew what parts she was going to get in a recital and when someone wanted that part she'd always put on an audition performance that was ten times better than her usual to earn her part. But anyway, I have been trying for the longest time to get her to dance with me and I've never even gotten a 'maybe next time,' I still can't believe it."
"What can I say," Natsume shrugged, "I have a way with girls." He smirked and moved out of the way as Ruka threw a pillow directed at his face.
Ruka couldn't help the small feeling of jealousy that was at the back of his mind. Although he had meant it when he said he liked Hotaru, some part of him still hadn't gotten over the decade long crush he had had on Mikan. He wasn't sure how he felt about Natsume going after her because he knew of his best friend's play boy tendencies and he'd never heard of Mikan having any kind of romantic relationships with guys.
He tried to laugh it off but he just couldn't shake his feelings. What would he do if he came across old feelings for the brunette girl? Ever since he saw her yesterday morning he'd felt something awaken in him again. It was subtle but the feeling was definitely there. It got worse that day when he saw her up close. He could still perfectly remember her unwavering grace with every spin and jump and glide. He had felt his heart skip a beat, it'd been so long since he'd last seen someone move so elegantly that it gave him goosebumps just thinking about it.
Ruka finally shook his head and came to the only possible explanation, he was in love with the way she moved not her. That's why he felt that way...right?
Mikan's POV
It was midday and mum was still not up yet. She'd come home after a night out with the Hyuuga's which is why I end up letting Natsume sleep over in a sudden lapse of judgment. Although I would have preferred to go out, it wasn't a totally wasted night. I know a few things about Natsume and he thinks he's got me figured out. It was quite obvious what he thought of me and it was just what I wanted.
My bedroom door opened as Hotaru and and Aoi entered with a bowl of fruit filled to the top. "Is all you have in your fridge fruit and water?" Aoi asked climbing onto the bed as I sat up.
I smiled and leaned over my bed reaching for the small box I kept hidden under my bed, "Reo-sensei is super strict about my diet because I have no discipline when it comes to food so I have to keep them hidden." I pulled the lid off to reveal all the things I was forbidden to eat often.
I was surprised that Hotaru wasn't the first to grab a candy and instead she was staring at me. "Reo?"
"He's the teacher I was telling you about. Serina-sensei sent him some of the old recital tapes and when he found out I had quit he didn't stop until I let him become my teacher. He believes he can get me to preform again."
Before Hotaru could say something Aoi spoke out "But your dancing is the most amazing thing I've ever seen! It should be a crime to hide it from the world!"
I laughed at the way she looked at me like it was an actual crime. She pouted and I couldn't help but laugh harder. "In all seriousness though," Hotaru's voice interrupted "Who knew Hyuuga could keep up with you?"
I knew she was saving the interrogation for later because she was asking pointless questions. She'd make me spill up to the last detail even if I didn't want to. "It surprised me too," I confessed as I laid back on my bed once again.
THIRD PERSON POV
Mikan closed her eyes as her mind returned to the events of that morning. She remembered how Natsume had placed his right hand on her hip and held the hand that wasn't on his shoulder with his left and then began to follow her smooth rhythm across the spacious room. If she'd know he was going to be able to keep up she would't have kept it so slow paced. She'd gone too easy on him and he had eventually ended up taking the lead. She hadn't heard if the music had stopped or if it was just her mind blocking it out, all she knew was that she could no longer hear it but a part of her didn't want to stop moving. She was aware that they'd had stop following the beat of the song a long time ago and were now moving to a rhythm they'd created on their own.
It was because she'd been caught by his crimson eyes that she hadn't noticed Hotaru or Ruka walk in. It wasn't until she heard a familiar click after the final spin and dip that she was brought back to the real world. The whole thing had been far too surreal she was sure that Natsume's face was only a few inches away from hers. She had felt his warm breath on her face when he dipped her down at the end of the song. That meant he'd been way too close for comfort.
Mikan opened her eyes again and this time she frowned. She couldn't let something like that happen again. What was she thinking allowing him to invade her personal space like that.
She frowned slightly before she sat up straight again forgetting her earlier memories and began engaging in the conversation between Aoi and Hotaru.
"You're ridiculous Natsume! How can you still be upset about what happened yesterday?" Ruka asked slightly ticked off at his still sulking friend.
"I'm entitled to be mad! I was so rudely interrupted by you and your sidekick, Imai!"
Ruka sighed, "Yeah alright I get it but you still have the remaining of the month to 'swoon' her or whatever."
The mischievous smirk returned to his face, "Yeah and my family is leaving by the end of next week and I can make up for your damn interruption!"
Ruka shook his head, "Give it a rest, man. I don't even know how you're gonna get a girl like Mikan to even like you."
"There's is nothing different about her. She's just like other girls. They all like the same things don't they?"
Ruka lifted a brow and gave Natsume a look that told him he was beyond wrong. "After she ignored all your advances during school and when she did look at you all she did was glare, you really think she's just like the rest of them? Trust me, if I know anything at all is that Mikan will definitely give you a run for your money."
Natsume's smirk grew wider, "Of course I don't expect it to be completely easy but that's what makes it fun right?"
"If all you want from her is to hook-up you should think twice about it because something tells me you're the one who's going to get fucked over."
"The bet is still in place isn't it. I'll get her to fall in love with me and then if she dumps me first I'll tell you all about my little plan."
Ruka shook his head in disagreement and wanted nothing more than to call of this bet. He didn't think Natsume would lose because he knew his past with girls. He got tired of them and they were out of his life from one day to the next. He'd seen those girls crying their eyes out and Mikan didn't deserve to cry over another man leaving from her life. He was going to protect her heart from the shadows, without actually foiling Natsume's conquest plan completely.
