Alison's POV
I haven't spoken to Emily since CeCe attacked her in the hallway, just small hellos in the hallway if we see each other. It's been two weeks, I haven't even had shifts at the coffee shop with Emily. I want to give her the space she asked for, but I still have been planning with Aria on how to win her back. The first thing is happening right now.
I stand in front of the florist as we look at flowers. I need to perfect this, let Emily know that I remember the little things still and that I care.
"These are our best sellers." The florist says as she gestures toward the roses. Cliché. I can't even ignore the wide variety of colors though. I know that Emily's favorites are white roses, so I will definitely get her those, but I want meaningful flowers too.
"What does each color rose represent?" I ask, approaching the green rose. It's her favorite color, but the meaning behind it could ruin the thought.
"Green is for vitality. It means the state of being strong and active." The woman tells me, I look up at her for the first time since I walked in.
She is beautiful, but nothing compared to Emily. This woman has curly red hair that hangs loosely over her shoulders. Her emerald green eyes fill with love when she talks about the flowers.
"White is for innocence, Salmon is for desire, Cream for appreciation, Red is obviously for romance, Peach is for gratitude, Yellow is for friendship, Pink is for sweetness, Orange is for enthusiasm, and Purple is for charm." The woman taps each rose as she tells me their meanings.
"Can I have flowers delivered?" I ask, hoping that I can get them delivered to her at work tomorrow. It's our only shift together since we broke up.
"Of course, it won't be delivered until tomorrow, but you can choose a time and write a card for them." The woman answers. I smile and begin to choose roses for Emily. No matter what the cost, I would get Emily anything she wants.
I make it home after a long day of flower shops and work; I might as well be having a wedding. I know how much Emily misses her mom, she keeps telling Aria how much she wishes her mom could come out and see her. I pick up my phone and call the number Aria gave me. After two rings, a woman picks up.
"Pam Fields, home is with Fields Real Estate Agency, how may I help you?" the woman answers. She sounds like she works too much; she's answering her home phone as if she's doing business with me.
"Hi Mrs. Fields, I didn't realize this was your work phone, Aria told me that this was your home phone." I can't just tell her that she's using her home phone, it would seem a little rude and it isn't my place.
"Oh..." Mrs. Fields laughs on the other end. It sounds homely and motherly. It reminds me so much of my mother's laugh. The sound of it causes a slight pain in my chest.
"I'm sorry; I was on the phone so much today with clients that I forgot. Also, this is my cell phone, not my home phone. And please, call me Pam. You're obviously a friend of Emily's." Oh boy. If only she knew.
"Actually, I am Emily's ex... you see, I messed up and want to show her that I truly care and want her back. So I was wondering if you could fly out to New York tomorrow. Emily has been saying she misses you and wishes you could come to New York." I close my eyes and pray to whatever god there might be that she will.
"You must be Alison. I heard a lot about you, and trust me; I know you'll win my Emily back. You're actually in luck, I'm in New York this week on business. I needed to come to New York and check in on our offices in the city." Pam replies. I sit there and wonder if she already saw Emily.
"Oh, that's good then. Perhaps you could come to Emily's coffee shop at 2 tomorrow? Her shift ends at 3 and I'm sure she'd really enjoy you coming to see how well her shop is doing." My plan is working, I just need her to say yes and then I am guaranteed to at least be at step one to winning Emily back.
"I will try my best Alison, I have to go. I have a call on the other line, goodnight." With that, Pam hangs up the phone. She is a nice lady, but she works far too much. I put my phone on the table next to my bed and slowly let sleep overcome me. Tomorrow is a big day and the start to something amazing.
Emily's POV
Today I'm working with Alison because I need to see her. I can't keep avoiding her. I thought by now she would give up on giving me space and try to get me back but I guess she doesn't love me like she said she did. It's about lunch time and I know there might be a lunch rush today, but seeing as how it's Monday. The likelihood of a lunch rush is slim to none.
"I have a delivery for an Emily Fields." A man's voice bellows behind me. I stop making a coffee and turn to the man. He's at least middle aged with a balding head and a large stomach. The man could definitely pass for Santa if his beard wasn't brown. He is holding a bouquet of roses. Many different colored roses.
"I'm Emily. Who are these from?" I ask the man curiously. The man rolls his eyes slightly and I know for a fact he's busy.
"I don't work with customers, I just deliver okay? Read the card or letter or whatever." The man says as he walks away. Jeez, some people in this city need to seriously chill out.
I smile and look over at Alison who is still taking orders and making orders. I guess she assumes this is going to be my break. I see a letter tucked in the middle. I usually see cards, but I know this is meaningful if it's a letter. I pull the letter out and smell the roses. I pull a stool over to the counter as I unfold the letter.
Emily,
Roses are red.
Violets are blue.
My life is not the same,
When there is no you.
I'm sorry, but I hope you like these. I can't give you space much longer. It kills me without you around. Each of these roses has a meaning.
White. Because they are your favorite.
Green. Because they are for vitality, the state of being strong and active. You are strong; stronger than any woman I've ever met.
Red for Romance. Because once upon a time we had a romance that was something I only read in books before. And some day maybe it will bloom once again.
Cream for appreciation because I appreciate you more than you'll ever believe.
Salmon for desire, because you're my one true desire.
Peach for gratitude because I am so grateful that I had you in my life.
Yellow for friendship because you were my best friend here and loving my best friend was the greatest gift.
Pink for sweetness because you are the sweetest woman to ever walk into my life. Never lose that sweetness; it's an amazing quality that few possess.
Finally, Purple because I hope it reminds you of me and because it stands for charm. Because of the charm bracelet you gave me. Because you have this charm that nobody else possesses.
Each rose is different like everyone on earth is different. I love you and I'm going to make it up to you. I promise. Don't shut me out forever.
Xo~Alison.
I wipe my eyes from the tears that gathered as I read that. It was the sweetest thing and so full of thought. I never thought someone would take time to learn about a flower and colors of flowers just for me. It's such a little thing but I guess that's what me and Alison's relationship is all about. Little things. I read the letter over and over touching each color rose as it comes up in the letter.
I look up and see that there is nobody in line and barely anybody sat down. I look over and see Alison smiling at me. Her smile makes my heart skip a beat and I smile back at her. This doesn't make up for what happened but it is a great start. I put the letter down and turn back towards Alison.
"How long was I on break?" I ask Alison. She points to the clock and giggles.
"An hour and a half?! Oh my god! You take one too okay? Full pay, I feel terrible." I tell Alison. She nods and goes to sit at a table. I want to hear her voice, and see her eyes light up when I speak, but I know that I need to be sure she wants me back. I don't want to get hurt. I forgave Jennifer easily and that turned out to be a giant mistake.
After a half hour of only a few orders, I give up waiting for customers and sit to read the letter from Alison again. I am almost immediately interrupted by the bell signalling a customer just walked in. I don't look up, I just walk over to the cash register and prepare to take the order.
"Hello Emily." A familiar voice says. I look up and see a face I've been missing way too much these days. I smile and look at the woman who gave me life.
"Mom?"…
Shorter than usual, I'm sorry, especially for the cliffhanger. But, there you go, don't think this story is over just yet. I've got a lot in store for Emison. Review, follow and favorite. I love you all kissessssss. Stay tuned for the next chapter!
