Eve's POV
That boy, Kayden, was part vampire. He was also an orphan. Why is this important, you ask? Well I'll tell you. Michael and I have been trying for a child, have one, adopt one, foster one, anything along those lines but we've never succeeded. You'd think the adoption agency in Morganville would be more willing, or at least forced to, but no. Apparently being a vampire is bad for this one thing. Anything else in this god forsaken town it's an asset but with kids it's a punishment. The system is so flawed.
I needed to talk to Michael about Kayden. About adopting Kayden. He's a really sweet kid. He could be our really sweet kid.
"Hey Mikey, I need to talk to you about Kayden."
"What about him?" Michael asked as he approached me.
"He's an orphan. Michael do you know what this means? We might be able to get a child. I know it's a long shot but this is what we've been hoping for. Please Michael. He told me that nobody wants him because the humans think he's a monster and the vampires think he's to weak since he's part human," I finished my short speech and gave him puppy eyes.
Michael had his thinking face on then quickly it changed to a shit eating grin. "You are so brilliant my gorgeous wife." Michael then pulled me to his chest, kissed my head then he pulled away and walked over to Kayden. "Hey little man," he whispered the ruffled Kayden's blonde locks. "How would you like to come home with my wife, Eve, and me? We really want you to be our son. You see my wife and I can't have children of our own and even if we could we'd still really want you." A tear rolled down Kayden's cheek and Michael quickly whipped it away. I was way past the point of not crying. This is exactly what I've been dreaming of minus the hospital and hurt Emma.
"Does that mean you'd be my daddy and she'd be my momma?" Kayden asked quietly.
I walked up to them the crouched down next to Michael. "Yes sweetheart. We would be your parents. You'd have a home and a family with aunt and uncles and a cousin," I explained.
"Is this real? Are you serious about wanting me? Nobody's ever wanted me before." I kissed his cheek and whipped his tears then whipped my own.
"Yes baby this is real. We'd love for you to be a part of this family." He grinned. It was super adorable since he was missing his top left tooth and a few others in the back.
I hugged him, pulling him in my arms then sitting down in the crappy hospital chair. Michael sat next to me and we stayed in comfortable silence until Kayden was deep asleep. "Eve we now have to convince Amelie to let us keep him." I cursed under my breath.
"We'll just have to fight as hard for him as we had done for everything before," I whispered leaning my head on Michael's shoulder soaking up this beautiful family moment.
