I do not own Rizzoli and Isles, just my very literal and lately, fluff-filled mind. All mistakes are my own.
Ch. 15
A light but eager knock alerted the small family that the time for visitors had arrived.
Angela, accompanied by both sons, her grandson, and Lydia entered the private space bearing balloons, flowers and smiles.
"Of course Jane's child would be so impatient to leave the womb just to avoid any attention. But, I'll forget all about it as long as I can hold her whenever I want." Angela scolded.
"What can we say? My genes and Maura's influence, she's already the greatest. Even if I could, I would've never planned it out that well." Jane replied with the proudest smile.
"Mhmm." Was about all the response the Rizzoli matriarch could muster. Not having really been able to be anything but over the moon about the growth of her wonderful family.
Sensing the pure elation and pride from her mother, Jane, along with Maura welcomed her mother to meet their daughter.
After the hugging, kissing and cooing of Angela, Frankie got the chance to meet his brand new niece. It was a surprising yet, welcome sight to see the tough Boston cop reduced to tears, by all of the seven and half pounds and twenty-one inches he held gently in his large and assured arms.
Jane pat her little brother on the back letting him know he was well within his rights of his current emotional state. She, herself had tears resting on her cheeks at the response.
"She looks so much like you, Janie. Look at her dark curls and long fingers. Wha...do you know what color her eyes are?" Frankie framed his curiosity.
"So far, she's taken after the doner. They're a beautiful shade of green with some some light, gray flecks. They could stay that way or possibly turn hazel in hue but, in any case she's going to have very attractive eyes." Maura offered. She wondered if this was just the beginning of all the bragging she would be supplying during the girl's lifetime.
"You're right." Frankie agreed.
"Hmm?" Maura asked. Having been lost in her thoughts.
"She's beautiful!" Frankie enthused. "Good thing she was born into a cop family, ain't that right, Janie?"
"You all are going to let this girl have a life of her own, you hear me?" Angela challenged.
"Says the nosiest person in this room." Jane whispered through the side of her mouth so only her brother, whom she was standing close to, could hear. Frankie vibrated with silent laughter, not wanting to draw the attention of their mother.
"Speaking of cops, what about Korsak?" Jane questioned.
"He was following up on a lead. Actually, I should be getting back to the station. I can't seem to leave this little miracle, though." Frankie admitted.
"Let me help you out there." Tommy offered to take Sophia Rose. Frankie held on a few seconds more, bringing the baby's head to his lips to kiss her goodbye.
Tommy took hold of his niece and beckoned for Lydia and TJ to join him.
While Tommy and his little family became acquainted with Sophia Rose, Jane pulled Frankie aside.
"What case are you guys working? I thought we closed up that Walker case." Jane inquired.
"Nah. Nothing to do with that. This was a case we got called in for about the same time you were coming here." Frankie informed.
"If you need help I'm jus..." Jane began but was cut off by her detective brother.
"Korsak and I got this. You're job is to get my niece home safely and to take care of my sister, Maura." Frankie stated.
"We didn't get married, Frankie." Jane corrected.
"She just gave me a beautiful little niece. That makes her more of a sister than any paper ever will." Frankie promised.
Jane was taken aback with Frankie's sentiment. She wasn't sure her family got that connection she felt with Maura. She was glad to be proved wrong.
" But, you might wanna think about changing that." Frankied added on with a smirk and a soft elbow to her side.
Jane just punched his shoulder as he walked around the bed to hug Maura goodbye.
"Thanks for stopping by, Frankie. I'm so glad you've taken to her so well. She's lucky to have you for an uncle." Maura praised.
"How could I not? Besides, I have a feeling I'm the lucky one, here." Frankie shrugged and took his leave.
After about an hour of Rizzolis adoring their newest member, Sophia Rose made it clear she was no longer in a mood to entertain with the beginnings of some fussiness. A sign Maura took to be hunger since it had been close to three hours since she last fed.
Once the room was clear, Maura placed her daughter in the optimum postion so that both participants were comfortable. Jane, wanting to be as close to her girls as possible, squeezed herself beside Maura on the hospital bed.
While Sophia Rose fed, Jane regaled Maura of the messages distant family and friends sent. She also repeated Frankie's sentiments of considering Maura as a sister.
Maura couldn't contain the moisture building up and cried tears of joy. Though she hadn't let her know, she'd feared, similarly to Jane, that her family didn't get just how tied she was to Jane and the rest of the Rizzoli bunch. She couldn't help but mark the stark difference between them and her own reserved family.
"Will my mother love her with as much enthusiasm as Angela does?" Maura wondered.
"Maybe not as enthusiastically but, the ferocity will be the same. She'll just show it in her own way. I mean, look at you. When I first met you, you wouldn't have even voiced this fear. It just takes time. The more she comes around, the more we'll rub off on her." Jane finished her reasoning with a wink, sending flutters throughout the doctor's body.
"This is surreal. I'd only ever thought about pregnancy from a purely scientific perspective and childhood from the perspective of a young girl's fantasy world. Clearly, you can't have a child without the act of birthing one but, it was only ever an abstract notion." Maura lost her train of thought when she caught sight of the baby yawning.
"I think I know what you mean, Maur. It's like that cliche statement all parents make, that you don't know a deeper love than the love for your child when you meet them for the first time. I guess cliches become cliches for a reason." Jane vocally worked out her acknowledgement of Maura's feelings.
The two women joined their forehead's together, sharing in their moment of being in exactly the same place, physically and emotionally, at the same time. But their moment was broken with a light yet, steady knock at the door.
Seeing as how visiting hours had just ended, Jane and Maura looked towards the offending sound, wondering who it could be.
Hate to leave it there but, I really wanted to get this chapter out before the weekend. Sorry if there are a lot more errors than usual. Just gave it a cursory glance. Hope you all have a good one. :-)
