As always, I don't own Rizzoli and Isles, only my very literal mind. All mistakes are my own, as are my terrible descriptions of fashion.
Ch. 22
"Is it wrong that I'm not nervous? I mean, I should be nervous, right?" Jane asked of her witness/maid of honor.
"Well, this is the first one of these I've been to. I'm not really the authority on proper elopement etiquette. Maybe we should've asked Constance?" Jess answered, then proceeded to recall the elder Isles female's speech on the ins and outs of many a ceremony at the baptism/Earth Mother dinner.
"Normally, I appreciate your snark and sarcasm..." Jane huffed.
"Not helping?" Jess spoke with a quirked face.
"No." Jane said with a clipped yet, slightly amused tone.
"Sorry." Jess offered apologetically. "I must be feeling the nerves for you. I'm kind of freaking out your mother will find out about my involvement. I learned not to ever cross her the hard way."
Jane couldn't help giggling at the memory.
(Flashback)
Jess and Susie were at the the house taking six-month photos of Sophia Rose for Jane and Maura when Angela came in ranting and raving about the opening of a new restaurant.
"...and vince knows the owner through his liquor supplier, so, what do you think?" Angela ended her shpeel.
"I must've missed the punch line over your excitement. What do I think about what?" Jane confusedly asked.
"The owner of that new Italian place has offered a table for his opening night to Vince and we thought you and Maura could use this opportunity to have your first date night since Sophia was born." The elder Rizzoli clarified.
Jane sported a hesitant look that Maura's face mimicked.
"I don't know, Ma. I don't think we're ready." Jane said and Maura nodded, sharing in Jane's assessment.
"Don't be silly, of course you are. It's been six months. You both need to get out." Angela spouted.
Jane and Maura were wracked with indecision. They had talked briefly about trying to go out after an intimate dinner at home was cut short by a crying Sophia Rose. The thoughts however, were ended by the guilt they both felt at the notion of leaving their baby.
"You should do it. Wasn't your romantic night-in interrupted the other night?" Jess asked.
"Yes, Maura. You were complaining that your libido has been going unchecked as of late." Susie added, taking a slight elbow check to the side from Jess. She turned, looking abashed at the contact until Jess pointed, with her head, to a slightly blushing Maura and an extremely red Jane.
"Oh, was that not widely accepted knowledge to everyone here?" Jess just shook her head in the negative and choked back a chuckle.
Jess whispered to an upset Chang that she would help her save face and offered up their services.
"We'll watch the little munchkin. You two take the reservation. Can't let good food go to waste and feel free to stay out late. We know all her quirks by now." Jess looked to Susie for back up.
Susie smiled and nodded in the affirmative and said, "oh, yes. We enjoy Sophia Rose's presence very much."
Jess looked to Jane and Maura with hopeful eyes. She really wanted to help her friends out since they'd proven to be a very compatible couple to socialize with.
All the while, no one took notice of a seething Angela whom had been banking on being the only one to offer her own babysitting services, not anticipating to be Shanghaied. This unexpected development would sorely derail her plans. She had to work quickly.
"You girls have been with her all day. You should take a break. Vince and I will take little Miss Sophia." Angela interrupted the negotiation with a decided tone.
"Oh no really, Angela we insist. Your grandma duties have been extensive these past months. You all deserve a break." Jess assessed. Thinking she was doing everyone involved a solid.
Jane and Maura were spoiled for choice. The enticement of getting away for a night and showering each other with undivided attention was strong.
"You're right, Jess, Susie and Ma, thanks for offering but, they're right. You've done so much you shouldn't have to give up the reservations AND be stuck babysitting. We'll do it." Jane said with finality and took hold of Maura's hand and walked over to Jess and Susie to thank them, none the wiser that Angela's plans had been completely thwarted.
(End flashback)
"Who knew she was harboring a desire for her own photoshoot with her grandchildren?" Jane got out before she bent over with laughter.
"Dude!" Jess punched Jane's arm. "It's not funny! She froze me out for three months! It's one thing to be ignored, but it's a whole other to be frozen out by Angela Rizzoli." Jess shuddered from the memories of cold stares, pointed words, (never directly at her, mind you. But, she knew who it was aimed at.) and silent hatred.
"Well, when she started showing up for every photoshoot after the first month, we should've picked up on it. You know what they say; hindsight is always 20/20." Jane offered in sympathy. "Touche." Jess sighed in defeat.
"Just take some really good photos and I think she'll be appeased. I'm taking all the blame on this. I want something short and sweet with the woman I love. I need witnesses and that's why you and Susie are here. If I had invited Ma, she would've insisted Frankie and Tommy be here. Frankie would've said Frost and Korsak: it's a snowball effect. This was the only thing I could think of without using complete strangers." Jane explained.
"Alright! Now that we've got you a bit worked up, let's get you married." Jess led the, now, slightly more energetic Jane to a judge's chambers.
Maura and Susie were awaiting the arrival of Jane and her Maid of Honor. Though they didn't want to make a big show of their marriage ceremony, the ever elegant and fashion-forward Maura Isles would be remiss if she missed the opportunity to make a statement with her wardrobe choice. Jane, unable to avoid Maura's motto was, herself, "photoshoot ready."
Both Maura and Susie gasped as Jane entered the room behind Jess. An intentional order so that Jess could get the reaction shot. She made a quick turn to get Jane's reaction to Maura as well. Jane wore a navy blue empire waist dress. Maura donned a cream colored, sleeveless, sheath dress. The couple wore matching updos. Needless to say, the couple glowed at the sight of one another.
Susie handed out two bouquets to the brides-to-be.
"Are you ready to be legally tied to me?" Jane questioned. A tiny bit of doubt just present.
"Are you?" Maura paused, giving her an out. "I mean it's more than enough that I've got you and the family you've provided me with."
"Maur," Jane brought their hands together. "I said, once before, that I would tie myself to you in any way. This is me making sure that we can take care of each and our baby girl. But, if you want to do the whole big wedding thing with the romance and all, we can do it." Jane offered.
"No. Jane. This is more romantic. It's all about you and me this way. No one else. I love you, more than anyone or anything." Maura Professed.
Jane moved her hand from Maura's to her face and returned the sentiment. "I. Am. So. In. Love. With. You."
They stayed in that position for a few moments until, "eh hmm" the Judge broke up the sickly sweet scene.
"Pardon my interruption. Shall we begin?" Judge Bateman spoke. The BPD duo had, on occasion, come across the judge and formed a respectable bond.
Maura and Jane managed to tear their eyes away from each other to address the judge.
"Yes, Judge Bateman. We are ready." Maura responded.
"And, these are your witnesses?" Judge Bateman asked, gesturing towards Susie and Jess.
"Yes, sir."
"Yes, sir."
The couple answered in unison.
"Wonderful." With that, Judge Bateman recited those words that so many promised before. Sure, the odds and statistics may not be in their favor however, that is not where Jane and Maura live. They reside in the world of hard work, attention to detail, and an affinity for truth in all aspects of their lives. It also helped that they added their own personal promises to their vows.
"I promise to always give your facts and research study tidbits a fair listening; even when I sarcastically look annoyed." Jane vowed.
"I promise to always take your obscene retorts and loudness as enthusiasm." Maura poured out, just keeping her composure.
The couple placed rings on fingers, spoke their I dos, and kissed into the next adventure of their life.
The End
A/N Alright, people. There you have it. Thanks for sticking with me to the end. Your kind words, faves, and adds meant so much, I couldn't express just how much.
Initially, I wasn't going to do the wedding thing. And one day, I found myself thinking about them sneaking off because of the hassle so many same-sex couples have gone through with parental rights, medical matters, etc. Which, was practical but, not very romantic. Then, the highest court in the land went and finally stepped up and the rest is history. # lovewins
So, hope you're as happy with it as I am.
Thanks again! It has been a privilege. You guys rock!
