It didn't take us too much longer to reach Rivendell, and all of us were glad to see the elven city. Elrond greeted us with a speech I didn't bother paying attention to. After all, I knew the elf well and knew what he was going to say without needing to listen. A group of elves appeared once Elrond had fallen silent and they took the hobbits away, most likely to get cleaned up. They needed it. Aragorn walked off as well. Probably going to see Arwen. I tried not to let that thought bother me too much. I failed.
Deciding I needed a bath, I started in the direction of my room. I had lived in many places, Rivendell being one of them, and in each place I had a room kept just for me, usually with its own bathroom. Quite convenient when all you do is want to get cleaned up after travelling for a long time. Unfortunately all the closet contained was dresses, so I had to put one on after I had my bath. Usually I stuck to a tunic and pants since it was easier to fight in, but sometimes sacrifices had to be made for the greater good. How that applied to me wearing a dress I wasn't sure, but it did. No one was around to argue with my logic anyways.
After I was cleaned up and semi presentable, I made my way toward the gardens. The one thing I had caught from Elrond's speech was that Frodo was on the mend, so I wasn't too worried about him. I'd leave the fretting to Sam. And Merry. And Pippin. So, basically everyone but me.
The garden was silent except for the occasional chirp from a bird. The elves must have been off singing elsewhere. It was kind of sad really. I had missed the songs of my kin. It wasn't too long before the silence became comfortable though, and I wandered around quietly, a small smile on my face. I had missed Rivendell. It had been quite some time since I had visited the city after all. Not since my fight with Aragorn that took place decades beforehand. I brushed that thought aside. I'd deal with it, and Aragorn, later. We had been friendly on the way here, but sooner or later he and I needed to sit down and talk about our fight. I was not looking forward to it.
"Ara." I looked up at the sound of my name, sighing as it turned out to be Elrond. Love the guy dearly, but I knew what was coming. So much for trying to put it out of my mind.
"Hello Elrond. To what do I owe the pleasure?" I smiled at the older elf, though it was a little forced.
Elrond motioned for me to sit down on a bench nearby and I did, looking at him. He then sat down beside me. "Ara my dear, it is good to see you. I have missed you these years you have been away."
I raised an eyebrow. I knew that wasn't all he had to say. If it was, he wouldn't have made me sit. He was just being polite. Which was annoying me at the moment. "I have missed you as well. I have been busy in Rohan unfortunately."
Elrond nodded. "What have you been up to there? I'm sure much has transpired since we last talked."
I resisted the urge to roll my eyes. Usually small talk wouldn't irritate me so much, but I knew Elrond had a reason for starting this conversation. Other than inquiring about my time in Rohan anyways. "I merely laid low and made friends." There had been a few minor battles, but I didn't want to get into talking about them. "Is there something specific you would like to talk about?"
Elrond nodded again, a small smile forming on his lips. He knew as well as I did that I had very little patience, so I wasn't surprised that he wasn't surprised I cut to the chase. "Yes my dear, there is. Why did you leave in the first place? You stormed out one day, no excuse and no warning. What happened between you and Aragorn?"
I took a deep breath, exhaling slowly. Yup, even though I saw the question coming I still didn't like it. I sure wasn't going to answer it either. "That is something I wish to keep to myself." I stood up, bowing my head slightly in respect. "Though now I must be on my way. There are some things I need to take care of."
I saw disappointment in Elrond's eyes, but he merely stood up and gave me a quick hug. "Alright Ara. I shall see you at the council tomorrow?"
I nodded, then turned around and walked back in the direction of my room. I had a lot to think about and didn't want to run into anyone else. Especially because there were many here who would be wanting to know the same thing Elrond did. Well, I certainly wasn't going to start explaining myself to anyone who needed something to gossip about. I didn't even want to think about what happened the day I left Rivendell. I'd talk it over with Aragorn when the time came.
Once I reached my room I took a seat on my bed, staring around. Nothing much had changed in it, which relieved me. It meant that no one else had been in there. I didn't like people going through my possessions. Not that I kept many in each place I stayed. I wasn't too attached to things. I glanced out the window and sighed. It was getting late. Time to sleep. The council was early in the morning, and I didn't want to be grumpy for it. Though sitting in a room all day discussing things did tend to make me grumpy. At least it was the fate of Middle Earth that was going to be discussed. That couldn't get too boring, could it?
