Jack

"Well, that went pretty bloody freakin' well." Bunnymund said.

All of us were still staring at the window Acenath had leaped through, I had to admit though, that was pretty cool. I mean wings, wings! I had no idea she had wings, where had she been hiding them when I first saw her?

"What is wrong with being a guardian?!", North screamed," first Jack, now her, why does no one want to be one?!"

"I gotta admit,"I said," the music is pretty annoying-"

"Not now, Jack," Tooth interrupted me,"right now we gotta decide on something important... who's gonna look for her?"

"Not it." Bunny said.

"Nope." North followed. Tooth groaned.

"Well I cant do it! It's almost night on this hemisphere and I'm already behind on my teeth counting!" she protested. I blinked.

"I could do it-" I offered.

"NO." this time EVERYONE agreed on that. I frowned, just because she ran off after I brought her in doesn't mean it'll happen again, sheesh.

"Sandy?" North asked" how about you? You could knock her out with some sand and bring her here before she wakes up."

Sandy made a determined expression and then a punching motion into his open palm.

"NO NO NO NO WHATEVER YOU DO DO NOT FORCE HER HERE!,"Tooth screamed so frantically we all stopped to stare at her to make sure she was okay" look, she went through a lot before she became a spirit, the last thing you want to do is practically drug and force her into a strange place."

That was it, all this alluding to the background of Ace the mystery girl was just making me more curious, I had to go find her.

"For god's sake," I spoke up," you're all a bunch of babies, I got her once and I'm getting her again before she turns into an Ace-icle, bye."

With that I flew off through the window Ace had gone through, ignoring the screams of the rest of the group to come back and laughing at my own little joke. Heh, Ace-icle, I'm clever.

It honestly didn't take long to find her, with her huge black wings against the snow she stuck out like a sore thumb. Oddly enough, she was just standing, looking at something. As I got closer my breath hitched a bit as I realized what she was staring at, it was the sharp, black wave of sand that I had turned to ice when Pitch had confronted me, trying to get me on his side. I was so engrossed in the painful memory of him threatening Baby Tooth and snapping my staff that I didn't even notice Ace had turned around.

"Oh, you," she muttered," gonna try and tell me being a guardian isn't all that bad, and now that I'm chosen I owe it to you guys to take responsibility, right?" she looked at me, her black hair being pushed back in the wind, and suddenly I felt uncomfortable. Her eyes were big, and really green, it made me feel like she was looking into me with x-ray eyes or something out of those science fiction movies Jamie likes. I tried focusing on the black ice sculpture instead.

"I-uh-uhh..." my mouth felt like cotton, which was odd to say the least, normally I never shut up. Ace gave me a weird look and followed my gaze.

"And why do you keep staring at that stupid thing?," she asked," Do you know what it is? Because I have seen many strange things, but not one like this, it makes me feel..."

"Scared?" I asked.

"... Yeah." I sighed.

"Do you know who Pitch is?" Ace visibly shivered.

"The boogeyman, I used to tell my younger sister to go to bed before he'd get her when I was alive, nasty shock it was to find out he wasn't exactly a myth."

Sister? Alive?! My heart jumped into my throat with excitement, she was like me! She'd died too!

...WOW, that sounded terrible.

"Yeah," I said, trying to clear the happiness over a young woman dying out of my conscience," two years ago, when he'd tried to take us all down after I'd been chosen, he tried to get me to join him. That," I pointed at the black ice with my staff," was what we created in the fight." she raised an eyebrow in surprise.

"Gods... You know I heard about the fight you had with him, and what happened to Tooth and Bunnymund and Sandy, but how exactly did you all overcome him? What happened?" I smiled at her.

"We taught the children with us how not to be afraid anymore, and without their fear, he lost his power over them."

"Yes, but how did you teach them?"

I turned around for a second, and in the blink of an eye Ace had one of my best and biggest snowballs soaring right in her face. I laughed as she sputtered and spat out bits of melty snow.

"That's how." I said, she gave me a look.

"What? Snowballs?"

"No, fun! That's what I am Ace, the Guardian of Fun." Ace looked back at the black ice sculpture.

"Fear is still important, you know. You'll never truly get rid of fear."

"Of course not, we know that, but you can't be afraid of everything or you'll never truly live." Ace looked down at her feet, and then back at me.

"I always believed that fear is alright as long as you don't let it change who you are, or control you, and I really hate to say it but... Right now, Jack, I am afraid. I don't know why I was chosen, or what I'm even the guardian of. Do you guys know why, because that would be super helpful. I just spread the clouds around and make lightning, how does that relate to children?," she was pacing now, and talking a lot faster," And what if I screw up? What if kids die because of me? I can't live with that I mean yeah my lightning has struck people before but it's not like I AIM and also if something happened to me would the whole world go into a mega drought because I don't have a holiday or anything so what could-"

I threw another snowball in her face.

"And what the hell was that for?!" she spat out.

"To get you to shut up. Look, you're in the same position as I was when I was chosen, I understand that you're scared, and that you're lost. If you'd like me to, I can help you find out why you were chosen and what kind of guardian you are."

"... You'd do that?"

Wait, I would? Well, I guess I will since I said I would. What was this damn woman doing to me. It must be those crazy hypno eyes.

"Yes, if you'd like me to."

Ace's gaze softened, and it felt like I was falling down ten flights of stairs.

"Thank you, Jack." I smiled, she wasn't so intimidating once she let her guard down a bit.

"So, what do you think?,"I asked," you wanna give us bunch of losers another chance?" Ace sighed and ran a hand through her hair.

"Yeah, guess so. If you end up hating me and I screw up though, it's on you for dragging me into this." I scoffed.

"You're not so bad, you know." Ace gave out a bark like laugh and jumped into the air.

"Bad? Please boy, you don't know me well enough yet, and for that, I'm going to take your stick!"

"Wh- HEY!"

In the blink of an eye she'd stolen my staff, spread out those huge, powerful wings of hers, and had taken off faster than I could hope to catch her.

I sighed.

"Fuck my life."
