After Sofia had settled into sleep, Sherlock looked over her head at John, watching him for a few moments. "I've never heard someone scream like that. Even when you had nightmares, you didn't scream like that. Just one shout when you woke up, usually." He observes, tilting his head forward slightly so that his forehead rests against the doctor's for a moment before he pulls it back, being sure to keep his voice low and not to jostle Sofia and risk waking her up.
A small nod came from John and he sighed a little. "I've heard screams like that before, but not since the battlefield, if I had to operate on someone without anesthetic, or those that came in with their limbs blown off. It's pure pain. Some memory, something she was dreaming about was painful. Very painful." He said softly as he looked up at Sherlock, worried for Sofia. The arm that's stretched across Sofia and draped over Sherlock a little gives his hip a little squeeze where his hand rests. "We'll protect her, Sherlock. We have a plan, remember? We'll make sure she doesn't go out alone, and if she absolutely have to, we'll tell Mycroft, and he can watch her. But we'll try and make sure she doesn't go out alone." He reassures quietly as he glances down at Sofia.
Sherlock nods a little. "I enjoyed our kiss, John. Was it wrong to do that?" He asks softly of the other man, knowing that it had been a mutual decision but he wasn't sure how to interpret Sofia's reaction to seeing them kiss.
With a small grin spreading across his face, John considers. "No, it wasn't wrong, I just don't think Sofia was expecting it, and like she said, she hadn't seen two men kiss before. We have to be careful though, we can't let her think that she's getting in between our relationship or something." He says quietly, then adds, "Come here." He says softly, waiting for Sherlock to bring his head closer before he leans forward and gives him another soft, chaste kiss, then he relaxes again. "Nothing wrong with it at all. I have to admit, I do wish we could kiss her, too.." He says as he looks down at Sofia. "But I won't pressure her. She's been through enough without being pressured into anything."
"She is getting more comfortable with us, though. The kisses goodnight, the little touches." Sherlock points out as he looks at Sofia for a few moments, thumb stroking her stomach since it's still trapped around her, before he looks back up at his friend. "The hugs this afternoon, she seemed comfortable with." He says thoughtfully. "I wonder why she's so comfortable with us. Or at least, with me. You put off a comforting air, but most of the time people feel uncomfortable around me." He observes quietly, nestling his head down comfortably in the pillow.
John shrugs just slightly and he smiles. "Sofia hasn't seen you at your most intimidating. It's hard to be intimidated by you when you're so worried and caring all the time." he points out playfully. "Don't worry, I'm sure it's only temporary and that you'll be back to your normal charming self before long." he smirks a little, stroking along Sherlock's side gently as he said it, to take some of the sting out of his words.
Sherlock pouts a little as he looks at John, then he sighs softly. "I've got too much going on in my head to think about being bored. It keeps me from being too irritable." He admits as he watches John, lowering his head a little to kiss the top of Sofia's, smiling a little when she wiggles down into a more comfortable position between them. "Oh. I don't think Mycroft suspects that you are involved as a potential love interest for me. Despite what he's said to the contrary, I think he believes my focus is entirely on Sofia." he says with a little smirk.
So I found a few more chapters on my hard drive, and decided to post them, so... enjoy.
