Chapter Twenty: Anything
Chase's P.O.V
"God I feel so heavy," I groan as I get up.
I hear Adam chuckle under his breath as he helps me stand from the bed. My protruding belly is so big now despite being five and a half months along. Adam is absolutely smitten with the twins but we both make sure to give our little princess attention.
"Pa! Dada!" Audrey squeals when her eyes land on us.
"Yes baby girl," I coo and lean down to pick her up.
I can just see Adam worrying over my shoulder. Our dad had warned me not to do anything strenuous, especially after using my bionics. He assures the twins are safe but it's just a precaution. I understand their worry but I won't let that stop me from cuddling my baby.
"Maybe you should sit," Adam suggests.
"I'm fine," I glare.
He raises his hands in mock surrender and nods although I can see his reluctance. I sigh a bit exasperated. It's been two weeks since the attack; Graham is in jail not escaping anytime soon. Krane, however, is a different matter. The president had warned us that Krane had escaped as soon as the intrusion occurred. I panicked for a second time but thought of my babies. They need me and I owe it to them.
"I'm sorry," Adam mumbles.
I smile, just a small curb to my lip as I cup his stubbled cheek, remembering how smooth the skin used to be before pressing a kiss to his pouting lips. Adam's hand gasps the back of my head deepening the kiss just so but not crushing Audrey.
"Eeee!" Audrey shrieks.
We pull back breathless to look at our little girl with an awed expression.
"Look at our baby girl already so big," Adam fusses.
"Oh don't remind me," I groan.
Adam's hand lands on my swollen belly with a broad smile planted on his face. One of the twins kicks particular hard making him laugh and me wince. He sobers up and presses a kiss to my forehead. I glare at him but it doesn't last long as the mirth in his eyes is contagious making me grin.
"We're okay," he whispers next to my ear.
"We are," I assure.
Marcus looks a bit pale as wanders down the hall. I quickly hand Audrey to Adam who gladly takes her from my arms. I waddle toward my brother who stands numbly in the middle of the hall. His wide brown eyes glisten with tears as a sob rips from his throat. It breaks my heart and I wrap my arms around him, a bit awkward with how big I am now. He buries his face in the crook of neck nonetheless and I let him cry for as long as he needs. A few moments later I hear Adam walk away toward the living room to leave us alone with some semblance of privacy. It isn't until a few minutes after that Marcus hiccups barely audible words.
"What?" I ask just a bit confused.
"I'm pregnant," he chokes.
It's like all air leaves me and I pull back. It seems my reaction simply makes him cry harder. I quickly drag him to a spare bedroom nearby and close the door behind us. He looks absolutely terrified.
"Hey, hey, hey," I whisper soothingly.
"You're mad too," he accuses.
"Why would I be mad? Who's mad?" I question.
"Mr. Davenport, my dad, Sebastian," he whimpers.
I narrow my eyes, how dare those jerks!
"I'm not mad," I assure gently.
"Really?" he sniffles.
"Really, I'm completely ecstatic, now these two," I rub my belly, "will have a friend."
Marcus laughs; it's a cross between a cry and a genuine laugh. His trembling hand stops shaking and it lands on his flat stomach.
"I don't know what to do," he whispers brokenly.
"Of course not," I agree.
He raises a questioning brow.
"Well you didn't really expect this so it's only natural that you have no idea what to do. Just ask yourself this, what do you want? Whatever you decide you'll have me and Adam," I reply.
"I'm scared," he admits.
"Why?" I ask.
"I don't know if Sebastian meant what he said. What if he's still being manipulated by Krane? What if Krane set this up to take away my baby once it's born? What if he's using me as an incubator and Sebastian was just meant to stay to take the baby away? I'm terrified," he explains.
I take a seat beside him and sling my arm over his shoulders.
"It'll be okay," I whisper.
I feel him nod against me as he takes a deep calming breath. I know he's come to a decision the moment he pulls away and looks at me.
"I want this baby, I don't care about Krane or Sebastian, I can take care of this baby by myself if I have too," he states.
I smile proudly and hug him, giddiness filling my being. I wipe away his stray tears and ruffle his soft hair. He smiles brightly, the sadness, confusion, and fear momentarily forgotten. I follow him as he walks out the door and we both arrive at the living room where everyone seems to linger. Seven pairs of eyes turn our way except for Audrey who is too busy chewing her Dada's shirt. I can't help but smile as her eyes brighten in utter delight when she spots me. Her little chubby arms stick out toward me. I don't miss the way Mr. Davenport looks my way disapprovingly but I pointedly ignore him.
"I made a decision," Marcus begins taking another deep breath to calm down.
Mr. Davenport and Uncle Douglas's attention snaps toward him immediately. Sebastian, who has been living with us for the last few weeks looks at the floor almost resigned.
"I'm keeping my baby."
No one makes a move or responds as Marcus chews his lower lip nervously. Sebastian's head snaps up at that, his mouth open wide and his eyes shining suspiciously with tears.
"Yes!" Bree squeals thrilled.
Marcus is a bit surprised as Bree hugs him tightly. Out of everyone, the most reluctant to even approach Marcus was Bree. She avoided him because she still couldn't move on but it seems that Marcus' self-sacrifice to becoming bloated as he keeps getting bigger by the months with a tiny baby is enough to change her mind. Sebastian takes a tentative step but let's go of his reluctance as he takes Marcus in his arms and spinning him around. Marcus winds his arms around his neck and they share a passionate kiss.
"I'll do anything to protect you both from Krane. I won't let that bastard hurt you," Sebastian promises.
I vaguely register the front door opening and closing. I look around and furrow my brows in confusion.
"Where's Leo?"
