Tiny Vik and Other Atrocities

.

Late into the night Viktor was still with the team and Andrei's mom and dad were sleeping peacefully inside the tent, completely oblivious to the raucous around the campsite. Andrei was watching the Irish celebrate their victory when someone approached him from behind.

"Come with me, Andrei. Trust me, you don't want to stay here." came the rough voice of his boyfriend.

The only reason Andrei was considering this was because he didn't want his dad to see Yan, he was in a big enough trouble already. Contemplating, he got up slowly and followed Yan. They were walking slowly towards the other part of the camp.

"Where are we going?"

Yan smirked. "You'll see."

A few minutes later, to Andrei's disappointment, they came across Yan's crowd from Durmstrang. They were all whispering excitedly to each other. To make the things worse, Mikhail was also there, sneaking careful looks at Andrei. This was definatelly not how Andrei imagined his night to go. He noticed that the silence at this part of the camp seemed eerie compared to the joyous atmosphere where Andrei's tent was located.

Suddenly, a terrified scream pierced the air and Andrei could not hold back any longer.

"What's going on?" he asked turning to Yan and other kids.

Yan put a hand on his back, preventing him with a simple gesture from going anywhere. The message was clear 'Stay put!'

"Some guys will be having a bit of fun and I prefer to have you here with me." Yan looked down at him, his face, as usual, not betraying any emotion. ''Not that I doubt your survival skills." He added, daring Andrei to say another word. He knew just how far Andrei would go to protect himself. "And the view will be better from here." he smirked, just as another scream and desperate begging reached Andrei's ears.

Now, Andrei was getting really worried. However, before his brain could come up with another question or a way to get out of there, he saw a crowd of people in dark robes start moving away from them and an unknown form rise into the air… a girl… a levitating unconscious little girl. Soon two more bodies joined the first one and hooded figures started pointing their wands at them, making them scream. An odd voice carried through the air… and Andrei heard the spell… Crucio

"Take this and put it on." Yan's voice penetrated his thoughts. He looked his way again and numbly accepted the hooded cloak. "Keep your face covered."

Andrei's heart was hammering in his chest and it took a lot of effort not to let the panic show on his face. He looked around with fake calmness looking for a way out. Hooded people were everywhere now. They were laughing, keeping the limp bodies floating in the air, and casting spells. Each more vicious than the other. A group on the right even set some tents on fire.

Andrei met Yan's eyes and saw a challenge there. Not seeing a safe way out of this situation, Andrei kept quiet and put on a cloak. The hand returned to his back and he was nudged forward, in the direction the crowd was heading.

Throughout the terrifying walk, Yan kept them at the back of the ever increasing group, not casting spells or cheering like the rest of them. He seemed satisfied to watch the proceedings without getting too involved into them. And 'satisfied' was probably a strong word since Yan just seemed to tolerate it all. Andrei followed his lead praying he could just slip away at some point.

He noticed they were moving towards the part of the camp he and Yan had just come from. Towards his tent. And his family. And the crowd of Death Eaters was getting larger and louder by each step they took.

"My family is there." He whispered so only Yan could hear him.

"They are purebloods. If they stay out of the way nothing will happen to them."

'But they won't stay out of it!' Andrei's mind screamed as his hands started sweating. And Yan knew his family would get involved. And Andrei finally realized that's why he was brought here. Yan didn't want him fighting on the wrong side. This way even if Alexander Krum chose to fight against these people, which Andrei had no doubt he will, Andrei as his son would not compromise Yan's credibility.

A few minutes later, terrified screams intensified, while laughter and music from partys ahead bizzarly started mixing with it. As they got closer to the celebrations, the music died down, replaced by shouting and multitude of spells illuminated the previously dark surroundings. Hooded people around them were running to the front of the group and soon there was a small battle in front of them. Yan and the rest of the Durmstrang students intentionally fell behind, letting the adults sort this out.

Yan calmly led them all to the cover the woods provided, where they all watched the battle of black clothed figures with people in red robes. Aurors have finally arrived, and judging by the thinning out crowd of Death Eaters, they were winning. Andrei saw that Yan's attention was drawn to two of his friends who suddenly decided to help out, running out of the wood and joining the flurry of spells. He heard an angry whisper come from Yan that suspiciously sounded like "Idiots!" But Yan wouldn't leave them on their own. Andrei knew that much. Yan would help them as long as he didn't put himself in risk.

Andrei didn't care what those two did, but was more focused on the clash his family might be in the middle of. Yan was quickly conversing with the others and Andrei was completely taken by suprise when he was pushed right into Mikhail who expertly caught him.

"Take him to the other side! Go through the woods!" Yan yelled irritated as he ran into the mess of dark and red robes and burning tents.

Andrei was pulled suddenly through the thick trees and all he could do was try to avoid the branches that were rapidly coming at him. Mikhail's grip on his arm was tight as he ran in front of him as fast as his legs could carry him. Unfortunately, that was too fast for Andrei who stumbled and sprawled into the dirt while Mikhail was still dragging his hand. Without his arm to fall on he fell flat on his face. His head hurt and his cheek was burning as he was dragged further, Mikhail not even waiting for him to get up. He tried to keep his head above ground but he was pretty sure his face was completely scratched up and could taste the dirt in his mouth.

The grip on his hand was unrelenting though, but when pulling him like a sack became too much for Mikhail, the larger boy grabbed the back of his robes and pulled him up. "Get up! Hurry!" he yelled in their native tongue.

Minutes passed and Andrei was sure he wouldn't be able to follow much longer. He stumbled so many times that his knees were a bloody mess by now and Mikhail still wasn't slowing down.

"Stop!" Andrei yelled desperately as he pulled back at Mikhail's arm as hard as he could. It didn't make much difference to the other boy, but it did make him stop and turn around with a look of fury on his face. He got into Andrei's face and yelled "Do you know what anyone would do if they found me with you? You are that traitor's brat damn it! Either I get arrested or you get hurt, depending on who finds us first! Is that what you want?"

"Then leave! Tell me where to go and you can go back!" Andrei unsuccessfully tried to free his hand from the other boys grip.

"Why the hell did you have to leave with that bastard! I would never have done this to you!" he tugged roughly at the dark robe Andrei was now wearing.

Andrei was surprised that Mikhail actually cared, but did not let it show. "Don't you think it's a wrong moment for jealousy!?" he huffed.

"You don't want this, Andrei! I'm sorry I ever introduced you to my friends, but now you need to get away from it all! Please! It's not for you!" Mikhail yelled back.

"And how do you know that? You know nothing about me! I am not weak!"

For a moment Mikhail looked taken aback. Then he leaned forward and whispered angrily right into Andrei's ear, twisting the grip he had on his hand. "I know that. Weak is one of the things you are definitely not... You are also cruel enough to be a part of Yan's gang. Don't think even for a moment I have forgotten that. I felt it on my own skin, remember? You left me as if I meant nothing to you... But don't get ahead of yourself, Andrei, you are still just a kid."

Before a stunned Andrei could reply they heard the rustling of leaves and some voices. Mikhail let go, letting Andrei stumble into the clearing, and added quietly "You are on your own…" He ran back the same way they came from and disappeared from Andrei's sight.

.

Three kids ran into a clearing in front of Andrei, but they had yet to see him.

"I reckon we can just wait here, you know. We'll hear anyone coming a mile off."

He thought he recognized the boy's voice, but couldn't dwell on it since another man ran into the clearing at that moment and Andrei saw the familiar face of one of the British Ministry people. Ludovic Bagman. Quite a harmless guy. Either way Andrei decided to stay out of sight for now and listen in.

Apparently, Bagman was just as clueless as he was harmless, since he didn't even know about the attack until one of the boys told him. But the conversation also told Andrei all he needed to know. The kids were running from the camp and hiding here. As soon as Bagman disapparated in a hurry Andrei decided to join them. As they say - misery likes company.

"Not exactly on top of things, Mr. Bagman, is he?" said the girl as Andrei approached.

"He was a great Beater, though; the Wimbourne Wasps won the league three times in a row while he was with them." One of the boys replied.

"I don't know much about quidditch but I think it takes more than just a Beater to win the league." Andrei said as three heads instantly snapped towards him. "Relax, I am just hiding from the scuffle, just like you"

The three in front of him relaxed their stance but were still carefully watching him as he approached. He took of his hood and sat down next to the red headed boy.

"Hey, you are Krum's brother!" the red haired boy intelligently observed.

Andrei rolled his eyes. This kid just doesn't get the message. "And you are Bill's brother!" he exclaimed in mock surprise.

"You know Bill?" the redhead asked genuinely surprised. As if he wasn't there in the box to see him talk to Bill. Andrei just stared at him. He hasn't really dealt with anyone as thick before.

"I would say I know all your brothers. Your name on the other hand I didn't quite catch?"

The red head blushed but extended his hand.

"Ron Weasley. And these are Harry Potter and Hermione Granger." Ron said, and the only reaction from Andrei was a raised eyebrow at the first name. He looked at the black haired boy from head to toe, appraising him. The boy stood there defiantly, as if challenging him to say something. He didn't take a bite. He turned to Ron instead.

"Hermione Granger and Harry Potter." he corrected "It's common courtesy to introduce the girls first, I believe."

Hermione giggled and Ron blushed even harder and pulled out a small figure of Viktor out of his pocket, set it down on the ground, and watched it walk around. Andrei watched in amazement how the figure of his brother made its way towards him. Out of all the things he saw this night he could safely say this one creeped him out the most.

"What happened to you, are you hurt?" Harry asked him, perhaps concerned, but Andrei didn't know why he would be, since the kid didn't know him at all. Besides, it was obvious how roughed up he was. In addition to his face, knees, hands and belly, he even managed to scrape his shoulder somehow and not even notice it. His arm also hurt from Mikhail's grip.

"You could say so." Andrei replied vaguely but kept his eyes on the tiny Viktor.

"I hope the others are okay," said Hermione after a while.

"They'll be fine," Ron replied.

Andrei was surprised by this bold statement and for the first time since he saw him this morning envied the redhead on his intelligence, or lack thereof...

"Imagine if your dad catches Lucius Malfoy," Potter said, sitting down on Ron's other side and watching the small figure of Viktor slouching over the fallen leaves. "He's always said he'd like to get something on him."

Andrei listened but didn't want to get involved into this particular conversation. He was pretty sure Lucius Malfoy would have disapparated long before the first Aurors showed up, if the man was ever even there, but wisely kept his mouth shut.

"That'd wipe the smirk off old Draco's face, all right," said Ron.

Now there was also a name he recognized. Da…Severus told him a lot about the kid. Apparently he didn't have much choice but to follow in his father's footsteps and Andrei could sympathize in a way.

"Those poor Muggles, though," said Hermione fidgeting. "What if they can't get them down?"

"They will," said Ron reassuringly. "They'll find a way."

'Like Finite…?'

"Mad, though, to do something like that when the whole Ministry of Magic's out here tonight!" said Hermione. "I mean, how do they expect to get away with it? Do you think they've been drinking, or are they just…"

But she broke off abruptly and looked over her shoulder. Harry and Ron looked quickly around too, while Andrei got up, his wand raised and trained on the trees behind Hermione. It sounded as though someone was staggering toward their clearing. They waited, listening to the sounds of uneven steps behind the dark trees. But the footsteps came to a sudden halt.

"Hello?" called Harry.

There was silence. Harry got to his feet and peered around the tree. It was too dark to see very far, but he could sense somebody standing just beyond the range of his vision.

"Who's there?" Andrei heard him yell.

"Lumos."Andrei whispered and the light penetrated the trees, just as the voice was heard.

"MORSMORDRE!"

Andrei's eyes widened and he started backing up in the other direction, pulling resisting Hermione's shirt. The green form rose through the trees, and Andrei gave up on tugging Hermione's shirt and ran in the other direction. He could vaguely hear Ron's gasp and Harry's yell "Who's there?"

Andrei turned back, almost reaching the end of the clearing now "Run!" he yelled back and didn't wait anymore.

"Harry, come on, move!" Hermione now also yelled.

A series of apparition pops made Andrei jump behind the first tree for cover.

"DUCK!" and then a roar of multiple spells could be heard, but Andrei didn't look around his tree. He tried to make himself as small as possible. He was just hoping he wouldn't be noticed or hit by a stray spell, be it by Aurors or Death Eathers.

"Stop! STOP! That's my son!" Andrei heard.

The noise died down instantly.

"Ron! Harry, Hermione! Are you all right?" the same voice carried over. It could only be Ron's father.

"Out of the way, Arthur," said a cold, detached voice. "Which of you did it? Which of you conjured the Dark Mark?"

'What?' Andrei doubted these kids even knew what it was that they saw. He did, of course. And in that second that his wand illuminated the forest before the mark was conjured he saw who did it. The guy was thin, with hollow look to his eyes.. The voice in which he spoke the spell almost seemed to be too deep to belong to him.

"We didn't do that!" he heard Harry and Ron yell right after each other. "What did you want to attack us for?"

"Do not lie, sir! You have been discovered at the scene of the crime!"

'This guy is nuts' Andrei thought.

"Barty, they're kids, Barty, they'd never have been able to…"

'Ok, so the crazy guy is Barty…' Now at least he had a name to go with a voice.

"Where did the Mark come from, you three?" Mr. Weasley said.

"Over there," said Hermione "There was someone behind the trees…" the rest of what Hermione said was just too quiet for Andrei to hear.

"Oh, stood over there, did they?" Barty repeated. "Said an incantation, did they? You seem very well informed about how that Mark is summoned, missy…"

Andrei thought that either this guy was paranoid without reason or he was just scared beyond imagination, if he was prepared to pin this on those kids… and Harry Potter none the less! The rest of the conversation was too low to hear but Andrei knew they were all still there, so he waited. They were probably checking if the stunners have actually hit someone.

"Yes! We got them! There's someone here! Unconscious! …" a new voice finally shouted.

"You've got someone?" shouted the paranoid one back "Who? Who is it?"

Andrei patiently listened. There was some commotion but no words were spoken. He wondered also who that guy was.

"This… cannot… be," the paranoid one whispered "No…"

"No point, Mr. Crouch there's no one else there."

Again there was rustling, and Andrei guessed that nobody believed that the man they found could have done it, so they were searching for someone else.

"Bit embarrassing," a voice spoke again "Barty Crouch's house-elf. . . I mean to say..."

'House elf!?' Andrei wondered

"Come off it, Amos," Mr. Weasley said "you don't seriously think it was the elf? The Dark Mark's a wizard's sign. It requires a wand."

Andrei wasn't quite sure if he agreed with that statement, but it was definitely a man who summoned a mark this time…

"Yeah," said the voice Andrei now recognized as Amos "and she had a wand."

"What?" said Mr. Weasley.

'It wasn't the damn elf!'

"Here, look." Amos said "Had it in her hand. So that's clause three of the Code of Wand Use broken, for a start. No non-human creature is permitted to carry or use a wand."

Just then there was another pop, and Andrei closed his eyes in anticipation.

"The Dark Mark!" said the new voice which suspiciously sounded like that Bagman fool. "Who did it? Did you get them? Barty! What's going on? Where have you been, Barty? Why weren't you at the match?"

'Seriously?' Andrei frowned at the darkness of the woods in front of him from his hiding place.

"Your elf was saving you a seat too… gulping gargoyles! What happened to her?"

"I have been busy, Ludo," said paranoid one, Barty. "And my elf has been stunned."

"Stunned? By you lot, you mean? But why…? No!" he said. "Winky? Conjure the Dark Mark? She wouldn't know how! She'd need a wand, for a start!"

"And she had one," said Amos. "I found her holding one, Ludo. If it's all right with you, Mr. Crouch, I think we should hear what she's got to say for herself."

Some silence followed. Andrei didn't know if the paranoid one gave his permission, until…

"Ennervate!"

More silence and then there was a small gasp and terrified sobs which probably came from the poor house elf.

"Elf!" said Amos sternly. "Do you know who I am? I'm a member of the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures!"

'Like the elf cares about your title…' She'd probably only care what her Master has to say now… She was crying hard, probably assuming her Master would not be satisfied, either with what she has done or that she was caught…

"As you see, elf, the Dark Mark was conjured here a short while ago," said Amos "And you were discovered moments later, right beneath it! An explanation, if you please!"

"I…I… I is not doing it, sir!" the house-elf gasped and Andrei actually felt sorry for her. "I is not knowing how, sir!"

"You were found with a wand in your hand!" barked Amos.

"Hey! That's mine!"

Andrei's head snapped up. 'Harry?'

"Excuse me?" said Amos, probably believing it just as much as Andrei.

"That's my wand!" said Harry. "I dropped it!"

'What an idiot! Now they'll think…'

"You dropped it?" repeated Amos in disbelief. "Is this a confession? You threw it aside after you conjured the Mark?"

"Amos, think who you're talking to!" said Mr. Weasley, very angrily. "Is Harry Potter likely to conjure the Dark Mark?"

Amos mumbled something…

"I didn't drop it there, anyway," said Harry, "I missed it right after we got into the wood."

"So," said Amos "You found this wand, eh, elf? And you picked it up and thought you'd have some fun with it, did you?"

"I is not doing magic with it, sir!" squealed the elf "I is. . . I is. . . I is just picking it up, sir! I is not making the Dark Mark, sir, I is not knowing how!"

"It wasn't her!" said Hermione in a shaky but determined voice "Winky's got a squeaky little voice, and the voice we heard doing the incantation was much deeper! It didn't sound anything like Winky, did it?"

"No," said Harry "It definitely didn't sound like an elf."

"Yeah, it was a human voice," said Ron.

"Well, we'll soon see," growled Amos "There's a simple way of discovering the last spell a wand performed, elf, did you know that?"he asked and then roared "Prior Incantato!"

Andrei assumed the shadow of the dark mark came out of the wand. It was the last spell the wand performed.

"Deletrius!" Amos shouted to cancel the spell."So?"

"I is not doing it!" the house elf squealed "I is not, I is not, I is not knowing how! I is a good elf, I isn't using wands, I isn't knowing how!"

"You've been caught red-handed, elf!" Amos roared. "Caught with the guilty wand in your hand!"

Andrei couldn't believe they were saying this. Hermione told them it was a man's voice, why couldn't they just believe her? He tuned out the rest of the conversation and just rested his head on the tree. He was starting to get dizzy. He vaguely heard the accusation against the paranoid one and thought it made a lot more sense than the preposterous idea of Potter summoning the mark. He doubted the elf just stumbled upon a Death Eater in the middle of the deserted wood, and this Barty was her master… he could order her not to lie and to tell everything she knew. Did Barty know the guy who summoned the mark? Andrei wished he could take a peek at Barty to see if he would recognize him as the one who summoned it, but they would see him move right away.

He tried to hear what was going on just in time to hear Amos let the elf of the hook so Barty as her master would deal with her 'Wonderful…'

He completely tuned them out from there. Letting his eyes close, he waited for all the wizards to leave the area before he carefully got up. His head was killing him by now and his knees were stinging. He stumbled from tree to tree back to the camp, just wanting to be with his family again. He was not going to mention this to anyone, it's always better not to get involved, and he hoped the other three kids forgot about him in all the commotion.

Viktor and his parents were desperately searching for his little brother. Nobody has seen him ever since the attack started. Occasionally Viktor would sneak a glance at Alex, who seemed to be more angry than concerned for Andrei. Hi did not allow him and mum to separate from him, so they were wasting time searching for Andi together instead of just looking in three different places.

"Dad, please, we'll find him faster if we split up or if we ask around…"

"Viktor, I already said no."

"He may be lying somewhere injured, don't you even care!?" Viktor cried. "You are just like Sev! Niether of you ever cared about him!"

Alexander was stunned by this accusation. "No Viktor, you are wrong. I care about him as much as I care about you. " he struggled to keep his voice even and looked into his son's eyes pleadingly "You know that."

And Viktor did know it, but none of it made sense anymore. "Then I don't understand why you are doing this, dad. I know you two have been arguing a lot lately, but we need to find him. Please let us get help."

"Viktor, if he is with his friends he would not want us to find him."

It was Viktor's turn to be confused. "What friends, dad? His friends are not even here. He is alone, who knows where, probably needs help and you won't even let us ask for help or split up to search for him!"

"He doesn't need our help." Alexander said resigned. "And I'd rather have people not knowing where my son's probably been tonight."

Before Viktor could ask what he meant by that, someone called his name. He looked up to see two young men, both redheaded, running towards him, one falling behind the other since he was carrying something in his hands. The first redhead reached him, out of breath. He didn't know this person.

"Viktor… we found him… at the edge of the wood… he was just lying there." He panted.

Viktor looked behind the redhead where the other man was coming closer with his burden. Except, now he recognized his brother in man's arms. Sofia gasped behind him and before either he or Alexander reacted she was already by the tall redhead's side.

"Careful, Madam. He looks pretty banged up. I don't know if there are any more serious injuries" the man warned as he put the boy on the ground, but still supporting his upper body as Sofia checked her son for injuries.

Viktor came to his senses before Alex did and joined his mother by his brother's side. He turned towards the redhead who was propping Andrei up.

"Who are you? Do you know what happened to him?" Viktor asked.

"I'm Bill Weasley. And no… Charlie, that's my brother over there, and I were checking along the woods if anyone needed help. That's when we spotted him."

"You are the boy from the box from this morning, right?" a pale Sofia asked struggling to keep her voice calm. Her eyes were still glued to her unresponsive son. .

"Yes, but I met Andi long before that." Bill answered. "Charlie and I were trying to find a mediwizard but I saw you guys first."

"Alexander, get the mediwizard here, I don't think we should move him any more than we already did." Sofia said, her voice a bit stronger now. She had to get the situation under control.

However, her husband did not move. He was stock still ever since Bill brought Andrei to them.

"Alexander! Now!" she screamed in Bulgarian.

That seemed to snap the man out of his trance and he ran to look for someone who could help out.

As soon as Alexander left, Charlie and Bill seemed to have a nonverbal discussion which Sofia picked up on, although she never raised her eyes tfrom her son.

"What is it?" she asked, still checking the scratches on Andrei's face.

Bill was the one who spoke, but Charlie also knelt next to them on the ground.

"When we found him he was wearing that." Bill nodded towards Charlie, who was holding a dark filthy robe which looked to be too big for Andrei.

Viktor took it and inspected it. "It's not his. He'd never wear something this shabby."

Bill and Charlie exchanged glances but didn't say anything. Sofia on the other hand was staring at the garb with hatred, her lips forming a barely visible line. Viktor was just starting to contact the dots.

"No… he wouldn't." he looked at his mother pleadingly. "No, Mum…"

Before Viktor could finish the sentence Sofia recognized her husband's voice coming from the crowd. He was finally bringing the mediwizards. She purposefully grabbed the filthy robe from Charlie's hands and pushed it inside her bag, ignoring the bewildered looks on both redheads and her son. She gave them all a challenging look, daring them to say a word about this to her fast approaching husband.

As soon as Alexander arrived, followed closely by a mediwizard, the boy in Bill's arms shifted and they all looked down at him, mostly in relief, except for Charlie, who observed him as if he were a ticking time-bomb. Alexander got down on his knees next to his wife, also making space for a mediwizard who already had his wand out and a diagnostic incantation on his lips.

"I am sorry... I really thought he went to meet..."

"I know Alex." Sofia interrupted his apology. "But you should have let us search for him anyway." she said firmly, even though she knew Alex was right. Andrei was with the Death Eaters tonight, but letting Alex know that would only cause an even bigger rift within their family.

Andrei blinked and looked around in confusion. Concerned faces met him, but nobody was saying anything. His mother was frowning, but he could feel her hand brushing his cheek in soft strokes.

"Andi, does anything hurt?" Viktor asked gently, leaning into his brother's field of view.

"Mmm… head…"

"The mediwizard will give you something for the pain, honey." Sofia smiled, although her smile seemed strained. The mediwizard tipped a vial to Andrei's lips waiting for the boy to swallow it all.

"Try to keep him awake for a few more moments until I heal that gash on his head." the mediwizard said.

Viktor took his brother's small hand into one of his own just as Andrei's eyes started to close.

"Vik?" Andrei whispered.

"I'm here, Andi… try to stay awake."

Before his world went blank Andrei only managed a few very important words which were weighing on his mind "I'm glad you are back to full size..." He passed out contently, leaving his brother to wonder how bad this head injury really was.
