Well hello there. I just finished the new chapter. In this one I tried to go with a mystery/action feel to it. Anyway, I hope you enjoy this new chapter with a new grimm in it
Enjoy.
"Sir, this situation is getting out of hand!" a nearby scientists shouted at his boss while holding onto a nearby desk to brace himself as the building shook.
"And do you think I planned this out!" the boss shouted back bracing himself against his chair. "This is a new type of grimm. They seem to be humanoid creatures with an incredible amount of brainpower."
"And you thought it was a good idea to bring it here?"
"This is the only place advanced enough to study these new creatures. My brother's facilities are the best on Remnant."
"I know that Jacob, but some grimm aren't meant to be studied, and I think we've found one."
"The wraiths are not smart enough to the extent of being dangerous," Jacob explained then he came to the realization. "Phillip, how long ago was the last time the wraith made any sounds?"
"Too long," he replied then the door handle to the observation deck started to turn. "Sir, do you have a wife or kids?"
"No, and this sort of situation is why I never did," Jacob told him. "I do have two nieces."
"Well Jacob, I'm sorry, but I don't think you're ever going to see them again."
"I know," Jacob said then leaned his head down pulled out his wallet and looked at the small picture in it and whispered, "Eva, I'm sorry, I won't be there for you anymore."
Then the door opened and they both were greeted by the scream of the wraith.
"Blaise, you know you can't win," Lapis said trying to force his arm down.
"Are you sure? Because I recall hitting you into a building," Blaise retorted as he tried to force Lapis' arm down.
"Really?" Lapis asked then activated his semblance forcing Blaise and his' arms through the table throwing Blaise to the floor.
"You cheated," Blaise wheezed.
"No where did you specify that we couldn't use our semblances."
"He's right," Eva said sitting on top of the dresser tinkering with some new weapons.
"Gah! When did you get in here? I didn't even see you come in!" Blaise shouted in shock then braced himself for the drop kick and moments later he laying in the middle of a crater.
"How many times do I have to tell you to stop calling me short?" Eva asked him in an annoyed tone.
"There is no number of times you are able to say it before I stop," Blaise said standing up then was kicked in the chest sending him through the window into the nearby tree.
"So what are you working now?" Zaria asked rolling over on her bed.
"Just something interesting things," Eva said placing the mechanisms into a over the shoulder bag. Then the door opened drawing all the eyes in the room, and in the tree, to it.
"Morning team BLZE," Ozpin greeted as he walked into the room, " I do hope you four are having a good first month of second semester."
"What is this about Ozpin?" Blaise asked climbing back into the room. "Do we have new information on him?"
"Actually, I'm not here to meet with you," Ozpin replied then turned to Eva. "Ms. Manos, may I speak with you in the hallway?"
"Sure," she replied raising an eyebrow as she followed the headmaster into the hallway.
"What do you think this is about?" Zaria asked standing up from the bed.
"If Ozpin came here personally, it can't be good," Blaise said then there was a pained cry coming from the hallway. Then Ozpin came back into the room and Lapis stood up and approached the headmaster.
"What did you tell her?" Lapis asked.
"Something that I'm sure is better for her to explain," Ozpin said then turned to Blaise. "I did come here for a second purpose. A new mission has come up involving something that is in your team's area of expertise, mutated grimm." At that all eyes were deadlocked with Ozpin's.
"What kind of mutated grimm?" Blaise asked.
"A whole new breed called wraiths," Ozpin said then pulled up some video feed from a research facility and the team only saw a black blur fly around the room. "Wraiths seem to be humanoid grimm with a large amount of intelligence." Then the blur stopped in front of the door to its cage showing its form. It was slightly taller than the door with a pair of armored black wings on its back and had an armored chest, legs, arms, and head. Extending its clawed hand it opened the door and walked into the hallway. Moments later the video picked up screams of pain then it cut off.
"What the fuck?" Blaise asked looking at the creature.
"The mission is: your team will be going to the northern Mistral research facility to investigate the attack. Then you will do your best to eliminate this new grimm. Are you up for the task?" he asked then the door was kicked down by a puffy eyed pissed off Eva.
"Professor," she said, "There is no fucking way we are not taking this mission."
After team BLZE grabbed their equipment and said their goodbyes to RWBY and JNPR Eva had called called Frank the pilot instructing him to take the Revenant Wing and bring it to Beacon as fast as he could. Meeting back in the lounge everyone had seemed to take up residence on a different chair with Eva curled up on one end of a couch.
"So, what did Ozpin tell you about?" Blaise asked sitting down on the other side of the couch. "But if you don't want to talk about it, you don't have to."
"No, no, I just," Eva said bringing her knees up covering her face, "My uncle, Jacob Manos, died in that video. When I was growing up I didn't even know my family, much less that they were rich, I was living with my uncle training to be a hunter. He was the strongest guy I knew and I wanted to be him, so until I was 13 I lived with my uncle. Then when my mom died my dad had my uncle bring me to his house. It was a huge shock to me realizing I had a dad, then that I had a younger sister. My dad then doted on me from that day forward and I never saw my uncle, except for when we were going to business parties. Then my dad hired my uncle for the company to bring in grimm for being studied, and I guess is work killed him. It's just, my uncle is a very important person to me." When she finished she didn't even realize that she was crying at first, then she tried covering her face with her knees hoping that her leader wasn't watching. She then got her answer when he placed a warm hand on her head and gave her a smile.
"Well," he said, "at least you've got us. If there's one thing I've learned, a family doesn't have to be related." He then gestured at both Lapis and Zaria who were now playing a game of pool.
She chuckled. "Did you come up with that on your own?"
"Honestly, no." He laughed. "I read that on the internet."
"Of course you did," she said then playfully punched Blaise in the shoulder.
"Ow," he said rubbing his shoulder where she hit him.
"That didn't hurt."
"Actually it did," Blaise told her then joined the rest of his team in their game of pool.
"Alright, Ms. Manos, so where are we going again?" Frank asked Eva as she walking into the cockpit.
"Frank, we're going to the Manos research facility in northern Mistral," Eva told him sitting in the copilot seat.
"Alright, well it will take several hours before we come close," he then got an idea. "Hey, would you like to fly the Revenant Wing?"
"What? No. I couldn't fly this big thing," Eva told him.
"Really? This thing is designed to be easy to fly, mainly because your father had this designed for you," Frank told her as he flipped a few switches, "The Revenant Wing was designed as a graduation present from combat school, but then you left for Beacon before your father could give it to you."
"My dad wanted to give this to me?"
"Yeah, he wanted to make sure you always had a way to come home, so he made the fastest safest way possible."
"I guess it wouldn't hurt to learn how to fly."
"Hey guys, did the ship just lose altitude?" Blaise asked as he hit the 8 ball into the hole winning the game.
"I think it just did," Lapis said hanging up his pool stick.
Then the ship jerked forward then dropped, so Blaise did the only thing he could think of and jump to be suspended in mid-air. Moments later the ship corrected itself with a jerk and Blaise flew into the floor.
Moments later Eva walked into the room and went back to her spot on the couch.
"Sorry about that," Frank apologized over the intercom, "but it seems I let go of the controls for a bit."
"That was fun for the few seconds," Blaise said doing a quick push up off of the floor. "So, when we get to the facility, make sure everyone is prepared to fight."
"We aren't even out of the ship yet and this place gives me the creeps," Zaria said cautiously reaching upwards for a katana.
"Maybe coming here at night wasn't such a good idea," Blaise said as he grabbed both of his pistols.
"Can you see anything?" Lapis asked him.
"Even with an enhanced faunus vision I can't see any movement," Blaise told them as the door opened. Then he pressed the microphone button nearby. "Frank, we're going to go down there for a while, so we need you in the air providing light. Each of us has a flare so if there's an emergency go to the flare and pick up the person. If you attract some avian grimm or worse, the wraith, leave and go to the rendezvous point. Do you got that?"
"Yeah, now be careful down there," Frank said over the intercom.
"Alright, team BLZE, let's go!" Blaise explained as he jumped out of the ship then pulled his parachute line with his team following behind closely.
"Everyone alright?" Blaise asked in a hushed voice after everyone landed on the roof and detached their parachutes as Frank started up the spotlights on the Revenant Wing.
"I'm alright," Lapis said.
"As good as I'll ever be," Zaria told him as she wielded a katana in one hand and her pistol in the other.
"I'm good," Eva said as she sheathed a new dagger in her boot then extended her spear.
"Alright, stay close to me and sparingly use your flashlights, I'll lead the way as best as I can with my enhanced vision," Blaise said then started to walk towards the stairway.
Walking down the deserted hallway with random things scattered in it was creepy enough, but the fact Frank occasionally passed the light over their hallway's window. Blaise was using all of his senses to the extreme, ears twitching at each slightest sound and eyes glowing red seeing everything in the room in a shade of red. Looking into a nearby room he saw the body of a scientist with half of his face ripped off making Blaise glad his teammates didn't have faunus vision.
Continuing straight forward Blaise turned down another hallway and at the end of the hallway he saw a beowolf snacking on what Blaise thought was a human arm. Before it could see him Blaise turned around and grabbed Zaria's pistol with the silencer on it then fired off several rounds into the beowolf killing it before it could notify others in the building.
"What just happened?" Zaria asked as Blaise handed her back her gun.
"Just a regular grimm, nothing to be worried about," Blaise told them in a hushed voice then continued back down the hallway.
Nearing the downed body of the grimm he pushed it to the side with his foot then kicked the arm into a nearby room after confirming nothing was in there. Nearing the stairwell Blaise saw the emergency lights were on in there, so he brought the team in there and barred the door allowing them to take a quick break. Pulling out both pistols Blaise aimed one upstairs and the other down.
"This is the scariest thing I've ever done," Zaria said leaning on the wall.
"You should try seeing everything," Blaise said looking over his shoulder showing them his glowing red eyes. Then they heard a screech from downstairs that none of them had ever heard, except for Blaise who paid attention to the video's audio before the human screams.
"What the hell?" Lapis asked pulling out his battleaxe.
"Lapis," Blaise said, "Our first objective is to find the information on the wraith, then we can fight the grimm."
"That's the wraith?" Zaria asked sweat beading on her forehead.
"Yeah, now we need to go upwards to the main office where the files are stored," Blaise told them then aimed both pistols up the stairway then walked forward. "Lapis and Zaria, you're both on behind security. If you see anything move shoot it."
"Blaise how are you keeping your cool during this whole thing?" Eva asked him as she was on his side looking through her night vision scope.
"Oh you know," he replied then looked at his knuckles that were turning white from gripping his pistols, "I manage."
Reaching the top floor Blaise stopped at the door to the hallway and rested his gun on the door. Cautiously pushing the door open Blaise looked down the hallway and saw no grimm down the deserted hallway, only claw marks on the walls laced with blood.
"Alright, you three stay here and cover the doorway," Blaise said, "Use the flashlights and if the wraith shows up, distract it and run. I'll head into the room and get the files quickly. If you hear gunshots, do not come by and help, just run. Signal Frank and have him attack the facility with the dust cannons, I'll managed to get out alright. Do you guys understand?" They nodded and gulped as they each turned on their flashlights and aimed their guns down the stairwell. "Be careful."
"We should be telling you that," Lapis said as Blaise turned around and headed down the abandoned hallway. Just then Frank's light passed over the hallway showing Lapis the marks on the wall heading towards the room Blaise was heading to as he holstered his right pistol and unsheathed his cutlass.
Entering the room Blaise saw two bodies on the floor. On was of a guy who Blaise guessed was a scientist who met a tragic end due to the bloody white lab coat drenched in red and the lack of a head. The second was a guy laying on the desk with his chest ripped open who Blaise guessed was Eva's uncle. Approaching the scientist Blaise looked at the laptop and saw a flash drive labeled 'Wraith.' Taking out the flash drive Blaise plugged it into his scroll and downloaded the information then sent it to Ozpin's scroll, giving him the sending symbol. While the files were being sent Blaise walked over to the other man and saw something in his hand. Pulling it out of the man's hand he saw that it was his wallet with a small picture of what he guessed was Eva growing up. Next to that desk was what appeared to be a longbow that folded up to be a straight sword and a quiver full of arrows next to it.
Attaching the bow and quiver to his back Blaise's scroll ringed with the 'sent' notification. Then there was a high pitched sound coming from outside that wouldn't normally be heard by human ears, then the outside windows to the room rattled and shattered. Pulling his sword and pistol Blaise got into a defensive stance looking out the window. Then the door he didn't enter behind him started to turn making him aim his sword at the door.
Almost at the same time a black figure flew into the room through the window and the door opened. There wasn't just one wraith, there was two. This new grimm was capable of tracking. When Eva's uncle came and captured the first wraith, the second followed him to this facility. Then the first one got out and killed the scientists in the building while trying to find its way out, and the second killed Eva's uncle and the scientist in the room.
They were much more terrifying in person than on the video tape. On their heads they four eyes, a mostly armored face leading to a beak, and feathered hair. They had armored chests and pulsing glowing red lines where the blood veins would be. Their arms were armored with claws that had red accented on them. Their legs were just about as armored leading up to armored feet with talons.
They looked at Blaise for a second then they both opened their beaks and screeched making Blaise instinctively pull the triggers hitting the one from the window in the arm blowing it off and missing the one from the door. Holstering his pistol he drew his other sword in time to block an incoming claw. Swatting away the claw he stabbed the one lacking an arm in the chest then pulled the trigger blowing a large hole in the wraith's chest killing it. The other wraith flew forward with its black wings hitting Blaise making him let go of one of his cutlasses. The wraith picked up the sword and attempted to swing it at Blaise, but Blaise hit it disarming the wraith. Blaise had a split second to grab his sword before the wraith flew forward and grabbed Blaise's shoulders with its talons. It then flapped its powerful wings and flew out of the window with Blaise in tow.
Sheathing his swords so he didn't lose them Blaise reached for the small flare gun in his pocket and fired off the flare up, but the flare intercepted the wraith lighting its wings on fire making it let go of him as it fell to the forest below. Throwing the flare gun to the side he reached behind him and pulled out his railgun pistols setting them to the highest charge. Firing a round at the ground Blaise used the recoil to send him flying up in the air closer to the facility. Firing a second round Blaise landed on the building just under the Revenant.
He heard some doors open, and Blaise thought he was saved before he realized the dust cannons were preparing to fire. Patting down his pockets he tried to find his scroll then the cannon's fired hitting the building below him. Sliding the longbow off of his back he reached into the quiver and pulled out an arrow with a head that looked like a grapple hook. Hoping that was the case he notched the arrow and aimed it at the Revenant Wing's wing he fired the arrow hitting the wing and latching on with a wire connecting the arrow to the bow. Jumping off the building he prayed his idea would work, and it did. Activating the small mechanism on the bow it pulled Blaise toward the wing just as the building started to fall.
"Where the hell is he?" Lapis nearly shouted as he looked out the window trying to find the wolf faunus.
"My instruments say there is no life down there," Frank said as he flipped several switches as he looked at the small screen. "You might want to consider the possibility he-"
"Shut the fuck up Frank!" Zaria shouted at him.
"He's gone through worse than this," Eva said.
"Well I'm just going by the facts here. The instruments say there is zero life down there," Frank said then there was a knocking on the cockpit window.
"You were saying?" Lapis asked as Blaise stuck his head into view of the window and made the 'call me' motion as he picked up his scroll. A couple seconds later Lapis' scroll ringed and he picked it up then switched it to speaker.
'Alright guys, I'm not dead,' Blaise said over the scroll. 'The wraiths are ugly sons-a-bitches. Now I managed to kill one and light the other's wings on fire. We should probably find a safe place to stay as we go over the wraith data. Any ideas?'
"We could, and I really can't believe I'm saying this," Eva said then took a deep breath, "We could probably go and stay at my family's house."
Alright how was that? It wasn't so bad, was it. No, I'm not shipping Eva with Blaise, I'm just trying to make Blaise seem nicer. Anyway the next chapter will be at the Manos estate.
