Chapter 2 – the bet

"I can't believe I failed" she whined falling backwards on the grass, the paper rested over her face blocking her eyes from the sun. Beside her Sango ate a snack while they waited for miroku to walk home with them.

"Maybe if you studied that wouldn't have happened" Sango suggested" I spend four hours everyday studying so that, I can achieve the best grades" she said staring at her perfect test.

"I was only bumped up a week ago give me a break."

"that and your always so distracted in class you barely take notes." Sango laughed

"What am I supposed to do, he's face and my eyes have a magnetic attraction. I literally can't help myself'" she said sitting up her test flying onto the paved road in front of them.

"Whatever" Sango scoffed" looking is all you'll ever have so enjoy it."

"You never know, he may look at me one day and think…."

"Why is that creepy girl always staring?" sango finishe pushing back a strand of brown hair from her face.

Kagome knocked Sango playfully, "no but he might notice how much I care for him and…"

"You barely know him" Sango interrupted again "sure you two have shared a few conversations but lets be real, you and him is never going to happen. It would like me fawning over jakoutsu, we may sit together in class, and talk everyday but we are worlds apart."

"Weren't you obsessed with him until last year?"

"yes, then I found out he was gay and that broke my heart, and one day you'll truly get to know sesshomaru and he will break your heart to."

"what's this about breaking hearts" miroku and inuyasha approached them, he bent over when he say the test on the ground reading her marks " was your brain on when you took this test, you even spelt your name wrong" he asked handing it back to her " mom won't be pleased"

"I know, she is gonna ground me till I'm fifty."

"If it's any constellation, the way you eat I doubt you'll live that long." Sango comforted

"You always know how to cheer me up" she said taking Sango's hand

"That's what friends are for" she said giving it a pat

"You two are so odd" inuyasha said speaking for the first time since he approached them, he extended his hands to the girls helping them up. He smiled sheepishly likely remembering the fight they had a few days earlier. She got frustrated with inuyasha for not saying anything when Kikyo insulted them in front of him. She didn't like how much he changed and she made it known, to him and the entire lunch hall. "how have you been" he asked drubbing the back of his head .she stared at him for a moment wondering if the silent treatment was the best way to go. He was still dating Kikyo and she had a sway over him that kagome didn't understand or like.

"Fine" she said giving in, he released a breath and smiled genuinely, they had been friends since kindergarten and while Kikyo was a rift in their friendship she would not allow the woman to ruin it completely.

"Are you coming over today." He asked

"Most definitely, I'm not ready to go and start my punishment."

"Mom misses you a lot; she wouldn't get off my back about the fight."

"How did she find out" she asked as they started walking in the direction of the taisho mansion.

He glared towards her brother and she looked at miroku confused, "what, she asked me how our day went, the izayoi is like second mother to me, I couldn't lie."

"Idiot" a baritone voice called from behind them and to her surprise inuyasha responded with a drawn out whiny "what"

"Father has requested your prences at inu-corp. make yourself presentable and head there now." Sesshomaru stood before them in crisp blue suit he hadn't been wearing earlier. He held a briefcase in his hand and kagura wrapped around the other.

"You, human" he pointed in their direction and kagome felt her heart skip a beat "your presence is required as well."

"Me" she asked feeling her cheek warm as his golden eyes meet her blue ones. He stared at her for what felt like for until kagura give his arm a slight pull,

"Other female human" he said focusing on Sango.

"It's Sango actually" he glared at her and Sango raised her hands into the air "but other female human is fine, I can work with that."

He spun on his heels and was gone without another word, kagome watched him go wondering why he was in such a fowl mood. She awoke from her stupor with Sango waving her hand in front of her face "did you say something "kagome asked

"I said goodbye, inuyasha and I are going to split a cab to get to inu-corp"

Inuyasha already hailed a cab shook his head disapprovingly, she knew his feeling for her crush on his brother, and it was much the same as her opinion of Kikyo. She gave him a look that said 'don't say a thing and smirked waved and got into the cab.

"Goodbye my lovely Sango until we meet again" he said leaning over for a kiss and making contact with her hand. "I'll kiss you when I want"

"Come on Sango I did everything you asked, I broke up with ayame and I stop flirting with half the girls in the school."

"And the other half"

"Baby steps my love, very small baby steps but I am trying." Miroku took sango's hands into his staring into her eyes "it doesn't matter how many girls I flirt with, you're the only one I want. Give me a chance."

"The meter is running" inuyasha complained from inside the cab, sango stepped towards the cab pulling her hands away from miroku. Before she got in she turned back. "Tomorrow, Milano's don't be late."

"Yes" miroku cheered when the cab drove off, "I got a date with the hottest girl in the school, where the hell am I going to get the money to pay for Milano's"

"I sure Sango will get the bill, she can certainly afford it" kagome began the walk home heading in the direction of the park. The scenic root was the longer one but it meant she had more time in the sun before she was locked away forever for her failure.

"I can't make her pay for our first day. I'll have to gather the money myself starting with the ten buck you owe me."

"I bet you five that you couldn't get a date."

"And I bet five buck that inuyasha and you would be friends by the end of the week, so pay up sister" he held out his hand

"Urgh" she complained fishing into her pockets for the money "I'm tired of losing"

"Then make a bet you can win" he suggested then a smiled with a far off look "I can't believe she finally said yes"

"At least one of us has our dream dates." She said with a sigh.

"It's time to get over that crush sis; it's never going to happen"

"Some would have said the same for you and sango" kagome countered, whacking him playfully with a stick she had picked up along the way "I just wish we could get to know each other better, if we did I bet he would like me."

The moment the words left her mouth she regretted them, if there was one thing the two couldn't resist it was making a bet. "Is that so" miroku smirked "because I can work it so you have a little time"

"And how the hell will you accomplish that."

"You know I have my ways, are you in or not" he said with a devilish smile that travelled to his sky blue eyes.

"Time frame" she asked

"Two weeks." He said after a moment, they were at shrine making their way up the white staircase that lead to their home. "And since I'm going to win this bet you can give me the money now."

"I can lend you the money, so you can go on your date and when I win you can give it back to me. "

"Okay," he said breathless as they reached the top of the stairs "let's make it official then,"

I bet you I can make sesshomaru taisho fall in love with me."

"deal," he said giving her a push towards the front door." now lets go face the music"
