Roman paced slowly back and forth by the couch in Dean and his hotel room, he carried a bottle of water in his hand and he twisted and turned into within his big hand irately.

He'd heard about it before he'd seen the video. One of the crew who'd he'd been talking with had casually slipped into conversation that a video of Dean claiming he was using Athena was circulating back stage. Roman hadn't believed it at first, instantly giving his brother by choice the benefit of the doubt, but it hadn't taken him long to find the video.

All he'd had to do was look at Jamie Noble and the smaller man was handing over his phone to show him the clip.

He'd been speechless. Roman had known for a long time that Dean was capable of some pretty shitty stuff, but he didn't think he was capable of hurting Athena that way. Not only had he slept with her to get at Seth, he'd dated her and made her fall for him. There was no denying that Athena had fallen for Dean. Roman had seen it gradually happen, just the way she looked at him told him everything he needed to know. Athena had never looked that way at Seth.

Roman had tried to phone Athena dozens of times but her phone was going straight to voicemail, more than likely in an attempt to avoid Dean.

The hotel door swung open suddenly and a drunken Dean staggered through, his hair dishevelled and his shirt torn at the top as if he'd been fighting. He grabbed the door handle in an attempt to hold himself up and a smell of beer and cigarettes wafted across the room assaulting Roman's nostrils.

"Where have you been?" Roman asked, his jaw clenched as he tried to control his annoyance.

Dean mumbled something incoherent as he staggered, leaving the hotel room door open. He finally stumbled into one of the hotel walls holding onto the wall with one hand as he swayed drunkenly. "You want to tell me what you've done? Why you did what you did?" Roman realised his tone was one of a disapproving father rather than angry friend, as he made his way over to the open front door to close it.

Turning Dean leaned back, resting against the wall as his head lolled backwards. "I fucked up," he mumbled before breaking out into a manic laugh. "I fucked up so bad," he said between laughs.

Roman stared with furrowed brows at his drunken friend. "Have you spoken to Athena?"

Dean stumbled forward and Roman made a move to catch his inebriated friend when Dean suddenly caught himself on the sofa. He slowly moved around the chair, holding on tightly as he did before falling down onto the cushions, his head falling to the side. "Nope."

"Have you even tried?"

"Nope."

"Dean you need-"

Dean stood suddenly and almost lost his balance. He pointed a shaking finger at Roman as he swayed on the spot. "What do I need to do, Rome? I've fucked it, it's done, let's move on." Staggering he made his way to the mini bar, opening it roughly and shoved his hand in carelessly. He knocked bottles around, some of them falling from the mini bar, until he pulled out a small miniature size bottle of Jack Daniels.

"Do you really need that?" Roman asked dryly, watching his friend stagger back to the couch.

"No," Dean said shaking his head as he unscrewed the cap. "But it's gonna' make me feel a damn lot better."

Roman ran a hand over his tied back hair as he made his way over to the sofa.

"Cheers," Dean said saluting the small bottle once before pouring back the contents in one.

Roman turned as Dean tossed the bottle irately into an obscure corner. "Why'd you do it man?"

"I wanted to hurt Seth," Dean said, softer than Roman had expected. Dean let out a short dry laugh. "Funny isn't it? How I managed to hurt everyone except him."

"Well what did you expect Dean?" Roman snapped. "You make her like you just to use her? For your own amusement? There was no way she wasn't going to get hurt."

"She wasn't meant to find out," he slurred. "I mean, at first I didn't really care if she did, but now," he shook his head. "She wasn't supposed to get hurt."

"Do you actually care about her?" Roman asked bluntly.

Leaning his elbows on his knees, Dean spoke quietly. "I think I love her, man."

Roman watched his brother closely, unable to comprehend what his friend had just said. He'd never even heard Dean say he'd liked a girl, he'd never seen him with the same woman twice before he'd started dating Athena. Roman couldn't quite get his head around it, Dean had started dating Athena to hurt Seth, and now he was telling him that he loved her.

"You do?" Roman questioned gruffly.

"I think so," Dean murmured still not looking at Roman.

"And that wasn't part of the plan," Roman commented.

Dean let out a deep breath of air. "Nope."

Pushing himself off the sofa Dean began to meander towards his room slowly. "You need to talk to her, to explain. To tell her how you feel man," Roman called after his friend.

"It's too late, you didn't see how hurt she was," Dean said as he pushed open his bedroom door. "You didn't see how much I hurt her." He muttered before slamming the door closed.

"You sure you're going to be okay?" Naomi asked Athena as they pulled into the parking lot for that night's RAW.

"I'm going to be great," Athena smiled falsely. Her hair was done to perfection and her make-up was flawless. She was adamant that she would not show how she was feeling on the inside on the outside; she wasn't going to turn up to work looking tired and depressed and having everyone feel sorry for her, she was better than that. It was bad enough that by now the whole locker room would know that Dean had tricked her into believing that they had a real relationship, she wasn't going to give all the gossips the satisfaction of seeing how beat up she was inside.

She wasn't going to show Dean how much he'd hurt her.

Even if her heart felt like it had been chewed up and spat out by a pride of Lions, and her chest felt like Mark Henry was jumping up and down on it, she would not show him or the world how broken she felt inside.

Athena had really believed that Dean had dated her for her. She'd believed him when he told her how much he liked her, or how beautiful she was; she'd blushed when he told her how she'd got under his skin and she had barely been able to contain her happiness when he called her his girlfriend. They'd stayed up all night talking, she'd told him about her parent's death and he'd told her about his awful upbringing, he said he'd never told anyone before.

But it had all been a lie. A big stupid painful lie all for Seth. Dean had broken her heart for the sake of hurting Seth, someone he said he hated. It made her think how much did he despise her to sacrifice her heart in such a cruel way?

Clearing her throat Athena desperately tried pushing those aching thoughts out of her brain. If she was going to act as if she was the happiest woman in the world, she'd have to stop thinking about Dean.

They walked beside one another towards the arena, the Las Vegas heat bearing down on them as they waved happily to the fans.

"You want to go and get something to eat?" Naomi asked as they walked into the building.

Athena knew everyone in catering probably knew about what had gone down between Dean and herself, but knowing it would probably be better to face them sooner rather than later she agreed and the two friends made their way towards catering together.

"You want to go out for a drink tonight?" Naomi asked, tucking a curly strand of hair behind her ear.

"No, I'm going to get a car and drive straight to the next town once I'm done here," Athena replied.

"You're going to leave before the show ends?"

"Yeah, I think the drive will clear my head," Athena replied as they rounded a corner. She didn't mention that she didn't have a hotel room for that night because she was meant to be staying in Dean's apartment for the first time.

The two friends stopped in their tracks seeing Dean talking to a crew member with his back to them. His hair was curly and wild and he wore his signature Dean Ambrose jacket.

Athena stared at his back, her heart hammering in her chest. She didn't want to walk by him, couldn't bear to feel the intensity of his blue eyes on her.

"Hey, why don't you go to the locker room and I'll pick us up something to eat?" Naomi asked compassionately. For a moment Athena couldn't speak and it seemed like all of the breath had been sucked from her lungs. "Hey, Attie?"

"Yeah," Athena said, snapping out of her semi-trance. "Thank you," she placed a gentle hand on Naomi's arm and gave her a thankful smile before turning and slowly walking away.

She knew she'd have to deal with Dean eventually. Whether he'd want to speak to her or if they'd go back to ignoring one another she wasn't sure, but she knew she'd have to be professional at work. She couldn't run away forever, there would be times when they'd have interviews in the same building, be expected at talent meetings at the same time, run into one another whilst with Roman. Athena knew she'd have to see him, and she promised herself that she would rise above her heartbreak and anger and be completely professional, she just wasn't sure if she could start being professional today.

As soon as she rounded the corner she began to power walk through the corridors, keeping an eye over her should encase Dean happened to be walking behind her when she walked straight into a hard chest.

"Oh, I'm sorry," she said politely before realising she'd walked straight into Seth. "Oh, it you."

"Yeah it's me," he smiled down at her. "Can we talk?"

"Not right now," Athena said taking a step around him only for him to grip her upper arm loosely. She narrowed her big blue eyes in on him as he looked down at her solemnly.

"I'm sorry to hear about what happened with Ambrose," he murmured. "You don't deserve to be treated so badly."

"I bet you're happy, you were right all along."

"I'm happy you know the truth about Ambrose, not about how he used you," his brown eyes stared down warmly at Athena. "You deserve to be treated like a Queen."

"Well it's over now," Athena said pulling her arm away from Seth. "Goodbye Seth," she mumbled walking away.

"Hey, Attie?" Athena stopped, taking a deep breath as she turned. "You want to get a drink tonight? Talk it all out?" He tilted his head to the side and a small genuine smile played on his lips. The same smile that had attracted her to him all those months ago.

"I don't think so, Seth." She turned and walked away, quicker from him than she had from Dean.

Bang Bang Bang.

"Athena open up!" Roman banged hard on Athena's hotel room. "Open the door, please!" He almost begged, his voice deep.

The door flew open and Athena narrowed her eyes in sleepily at her friends' tall frame. "What are you doing here? It's five in the morning. Why aren't you in Vegas partying?"

"Is Dean with you? Have you spoken to him?" Roman's voice was filled with urgency and worry.

Blinking several times Athena seemed to awaken slightly. "What? No, why would he be here?"

"Has he tried calling you?"

"My phones been off," Athena said warily. "What's wrong Roman?" Roman ran a hand through his long hair. Athena realised he was still wearing his ring gear under a hoodie and his hair didn't look like it had been washed since his match earlier that night. "Come in," she stepped aside allowing her friend to barge in.

Roman looked around the room frantically as if he'd been hoping Athena had been lying and Dean was actually inside.

"What's wrong?" Athena begged, starting to worry.

"Didn't you see? Didn't you watch all of RAW?" Roman asked.

"No, my match was on first and then I left and drove straight here and went to bed, what's happened?"

Roman closed his eyes and collapsed into an armchair. "I thought he'd be here with you, that you'd got to him," Roman shook his head lightly, deep in thought.

"Roman, would please tell me what's going on?" Athena demanded.

"Dean had his re-match with Seth tonight," Roman ran a hand through his loose hair. "He was planning on beating the shit out of him because of last night and how his two friends told you, about well you know," Athena nodded, a crease between her eyes. "The match was a falls count anywhere, but Kane came out and they- they," Roman took a deep breath. "They, put his head through a block of cinder blocks."

"They did what?" Athena asked, disbelieving.

"Seth curb stomped Dean through a block of cinder blocks," Roman rubbed his forehead. "I didn't see it until Dean was already in the hospital, and by the time I found out which hospital he was in and I finally got there, he'd checked himself out."

"What?"

"I thought he might have called you and you might have picked him up," Roman said desperately.

Athena's eyes were huge as she tried to process the information she was being told. "How do you just check out of hospital after that?"

"I don't know, baby girl." Roman said. "Would you try calling him?"

"Sure," Athena said moving to her bedside table and turning her phone on. "I'm not sure he'll answer me though."

"You're the one person he would answer, Attie," Roman replied as Athena dialled his number. "He loves you."
