Chapter 8

December passed in a rush and so did half of January. Before the month ended everybody else in the building found out that I didn't get the job due to that sneaky cat from next door. Yes, I'm talking about Happy. One day I decided to tell Wendy that I didn't get the job. The very moment Happy sneaked from my window in our apartment and of course Natsu ran after him. That way he overheard our conversation.

The news spread fast in Fairy Tail. "Did you try at the café on the main street?" "I spend most of my time in that café. They even know my usual order." I said to Erza. Gray reached out his pack with cigarettes and I took one. Remember when I said that I went to jail because of the people I hung around with? While being with them I started smoking. Just after lighting it up, Wendy pulled it out of my mouth and threw it in my almost empty beer glass. "Hey?!" "Smoking is bad for you. And so is alcohol." She answered with a glare. "Why don't you take it away from Gray?!" "Cause he has a job and therefor allowed to live a carefree life. And until you don't find a job, you won't smoke!"

My little sister has just forbidden me to smoke and drink. I must really get a job. While turning my eyes I spotted a piano on the other side of the room. "Since when do we have a piano here?" I asked the others. "Apparently it's a Christmas present from the Master. He extended his vacation." Levy answered. "Again?" Natsu asked. They told me that he retired one month before I came and that he wanted to use that time to travel around the world. As the rest started setting bets on when the Master would return I stood up and went to the piano. I let my fingers slide on the clean piano keys. I seemed like it was never used. I sat on the seat and started playing the piano. It was quite a while since the last time I played the piano or violin.

Don't think that just because I smoke or drink or don't have a job I can't play a piano or violin! I started playing a piano version of 'The world is mine' from Hatsune Miku. When finished I noticed that everybody was looking at me. "My, my, Lucy, I didn't know you could play the piano this well." Mira broke the ice. Then Cana started laughing loudly. "That's my sister! I missed the sound of your playing!" Leaving the others with wide opened mouth, I left the bar with Cana.

That night I couldn't sleep, so I decided to take a walk and while passing by the bar, I entered. I found Gajeel sitting alone by the counter so I joined him. "A normal girl wouldn't go out at 1 a.m. to take a walk, ya know?" He said. I rolled my eyes, "Why would a guy sit in a bar at 1 a.m. even though tomorrow is Wednesday?" He didn't say anything nor did he react to that in a weird way.

After taking a sip from his whiskey he said, "Because the girl who takes a walk and the guy who doesn't sleep on a workday are in the same shit." 'He lost his job' was the first thing I thought upon hearing that. "How about looking for one together tomorrow?" I suggested. Yeah, I know it sounds stupid to ask such a thing but he know the city better than me.

He chuckled. Does that mean yes? "I have a better suggestion. What if I get you a job and you just pay it back." I frowned. "Don't you need a job?" He ordered one beer for himself since I didn't want to drink before sleeping. "I have a place in mind where the boss won't refuse me." I was still frowning. Guys are really complicated sometimes, yet they say women are difficult.

We said that we will meet around 9 in front of the bar. Just as I was about to put on my coat, I saw Natsu in the reflection of the mirror. I jumped back with a yelp before turning around, "God don't scare me like that!" "Going somewhere?" He asked. "Just… you know… taking a walk…" He raised a brow. "Don't you have to go to work now?" I asked him to change the subject. "Called in sick today."

"Cool story Bro, but I have to go now." I said while putting on my scarf and leaving my apartment. I suddenly got pulled by Natsu from behind. He took me in his arms and blew in my ear before saying, "Don't you dare 'Bro' me Lucy. Now be a good girl and tell me why rush to go on a walk." His words gave me the chills. I pushed him away and ran down the stairs. I had no time to wait for the elevator! Just as I got down the lift doors opened and Natsu came out. Before I realized what happened he pinned me against the wall, with his hands on both sides of my head. I could clearly see that he was getting annoyed. I had to admit, even though he looked hot, I was scared of him right now.

"Heartfilia! Are you coming?" We heard Gajeel yelling while entering the lobby. He stopped in tracks as he saw me pinned against the wall with a now less angry Natsu in front of me. "I'll wait outside. Just come when you two finish." Gajeel said while leaving. "NO! IT'S A MISSUNDERSTANDING!" I yelled on the top of my lungs.

I tried explaining to Gajeel what actually happened. Natsu was following is ever since we left Fairy Tail this morning. Apparently he was worried about me looking for a job with Gajeel. "Hey Lucy. Why didn't you mention anything about being a music prodigy?" Natsu asked. I sighed, "I'm not a music prodigy. I just had a few lessons when I was young." "You played like a pro yesterday. Are you sure it was just 'a few lessons'?"

"Okay. Maybe I had a few more." I said with a blush. "Any other instruments you can play?" Gajeel asked. "I can also play the violin." I answered entering the café which was on the main street. "Welco-, ah Lucy! Good morning!" Gemi, the waitress, said. Well this is one of the spots I came to the past 3 months. Of course they'll remember me! "Mornin'!" I said to her and walked to my usual seat. "Then what would you like today?"

"Black coffee." Gajeel said. "I'll take the usual." I told her. She turned towards Natsu, who was still thinking. "Just give me the same thing as Lucy." He finally said. I started laughing. "You don't even know what it is!" "It sure must be good since you take it every time you come here." I nodded. True, I love it. However, not everyone has the same taste. Gemi came back with our orders. For Gajeel a cup of black coffee, and for Natsu and me, each a cup of cappuccino and cupcakes. "This is it? Cappuccino and cupcakes? This is your special order?" Natsu asked me with a dumbfounded look. It pissed me of. "I never said it was special. I just told you that I like it." After trying it, he seemed to like it since he started smiling. You shouldn't compare anything with something else, because everything is unique. Even a cup of cappuccino!

"Gemi, could you come for a second?" The waitress came towards our table. "Geez Lucy, I'm Mini." Natsu and Gajeel snickered at me while I got flustered. "Sorry about that. I wanted to ask you about the job again."

Mini looked apologetically at me. "I'm really sorry Lucy, but Aquarius declined it already once and she doesn't change her choices easily." This option drops out. Gajeel smiled. "Why don't you let me talk to that boss of yours? I think I can make her change her mind." He then turned towards Natsu and me. "You two can go look for another place while I try here." Will he be okay?

We went to the pet shop, since Natsu wanted to buy something for Happy and I tried to ask for a job. But after finding out that there was no available place, I got sad. Man, looking for a job is harder than expected. I waited for Natsu to finish. In the meantime I spotted a small white dog with an orange nose. Was it even a dog? It was so cute!

I kept starring at it until Natsu came next to me. "This dog would really suit you." He said all of sudden. "I really want to adopt him, but without a job my savings will drop only faster." I said sadly. We then left the store to go back to Gajeel and see if he finished. "When is your birthday Lucy?" "1st July. Why are you asking?" "Just wanted to know." He told me.

"Congratulations Lucy! You got the job!" Gajeel said while laughing. I was surprised that he managed to get it so easily. "How did you-? " "The boss is a really good friend of Juvia. I just had to mention her and she already accepted it. Since you already had an interview here, you can start on Monday." He explained to me.

"You really are lucky Lucy!" Natsu said with a smile while hitting my back. He then put his arm around me. "Let's go celebrate!" I started laughing with him and put my arm around his back. "Let's go!"

"Natsuuuuuu! I love you!" I yelled while hugging him. The alcohol came through me and my body and my mind just started acting on its own. "Hey Lucy! *Hick* I didn't know you had the hots for Natsu." Cana said. She was obviously as drunk as the rest of us. "Canaaaa! I love you too!" I said releasing Natsu and hugging her instead. She started laughing. I let go of her and climbed on a table. While spreading my arms in the air, I yelled. "I LOVE YOU ALL!" Everyone started laughing after I said that.

All of sudden my energy got drained and I felt myself loosing conscious. The next thing that happened was me falling down from the table.

I swear to god, I will never, ever drink an alcoholic drink ever again in my entire life. I think I said something similar the last time I got drunk… I got out of my bed. Wasn't I in the bar yesterday? What happened after that? I went to the living room and saw Wendy watching the latest episode of Pretty Little Liars. "Shouldn't you be at school?" I said while sitting down next to her. I pinched the bridge of my nose. Damn headache. "I skipped the last two hours." She told me while handing me a glass of water and medicine. I don't know how many times I told her to not skip school. "I was worried about you. You seemed to have hit your head pretty hard." She explained further. My head? "What happened yesterday?" I asked her.

She looked at me with a surprised face. "Don't you remember? You confessed your love to everyone in the bar. After that you passed out and fell from the table." "Seriously! What happened then?" She frowned. "Don't interrupt me! Well you hit your head on Cana's and you both passed out. After that Natsu helped me bring you to your bed."

So Natsu did. Does that mean that he…? "Good morning!" We heard a cheerful voice. The person walked to the armchair and sat down. "Good morning Natsu. Do you want a coffee?" Wendy asked him. Don't tell me this demon slept in my bed. "Hey Natsu, did you by any chance sleep in my bed last night?" "I forgot my key. Wendy suggested me to sleep here." He told me. I turned towards Wendy and sent her a glare. I sighed. It's pointless to argue with her about that. She thinks that it wouldn't matter to let him sleep in my bed since it's not the first time.

"Are you two going out? I mean you spent a lot of time together and even slept in the same bed for a couple of times." Wendy asked after serving Natsu's coffee. I was a little shocked by her question. "T-that's absurd!" I said. "What about your confession yesterday? I thought you were serious about that." Natsu said with a disappointed face. "Are you for real?" I asked him, not believing what I just heard. He can't be serious, right? Last time he said he was in love with a girl who lived here before me. Didn't he like her anymore?

"To me you seem more than friends but less than lovers." Wendy said before continuing on watching the episode. More than friends but less than lovers… We looked at each other with a surprised look before both we started grinning at the same time. That time we didn't know what it actually was.

After googling it, I found out that it's called a flirtationship. I'm not really sure if that really describes our relationship though…

Note: Me again! Sorry I made Lucy smoke so suddenly. Actually I planned on doing it in the previous chapters as well but it slipped my mind. I hoped you liked this chapter anyway :) Don't forget to leave a review :D
