Present: Finding answers

Lucy was sitting opposite her father, who was angrily eying the bruises around her neck.
"Where the hell was Jax when all of this was going down?" He hissed clenching his fists.
"Daddy, this isn't his fault," she tried to reason with him.
"Not his fault?" He snorted: "My baby girl almost gets killed under his watch. That's unforgivable."
"Daddy please. Hap was with me…"
"Well then he fucked up big time," Pete interrupted.
Lucy shrugged there was no point in arguing with him.
"Tell me everything," he ordered his eyes narrowed to slits.
She told her dad everything about the attack in her home. She also told him about the eyes that had been so familiar and her guess that it had to be something personal.
"I don't think it has anything to do with the club, if it does it's a personal revenge or something. I mean why kill mom? Why try to kill me? Somebody is trying to hurt you."
Pete nodded: "I agree. But there is nothing that comes to mind. I've done things over the years, things I'm not proud of, but before your mom was killed I always tried to do the right thing. For our family and for the club."
"You need to think harder."
Lucy leaned forward and took his hands into hers: "We need to find the person responsible for this attack. Jax is out of his mind with rage, I'm scared he'll do something stupid."
"He's smart. He won't do anything unless he's sure."
"You sure? You're smart. Still you're in here," she looked deep into his eyes: "You can't think of anything?"
Her father exhaled deeply and closed his eyes for a second.
"Did hurt someone? Maybe for the club? What about the three years you were in here when I was little?"
He shook his head but then he stopped. His eyes widened as he seemed to think of something.
"There was one thing. But that was such a long time ago and…. I don't know. You have to believe me, I felt horrible about it. Still do."
"Daddy!" She interjected: "What did you do?"
He sighed. Then he looked around the room and leaned in closely.
"You have to understand, it was different back then. We were at war and we were desperate."
He paused for a second before he continued: "There was an arms shop in Lodi that had an illegal warehouse near Charming. We needed the guns because the IRA was awaiting a shipment. We had cleared out the place, stored them all in the truck and were just about to leave when I realized I had dropped my lighter. You know, the nice one your mom had given me? I hurried back inside and told the guy's I'd meet them on the other side. When I left the building I ran straight into the arms of a security guard. He had just started his round."
Lucy covered her mouth with her hands: "Oh god. Daddy."
"He pulled his gun. Wanted to shoot me. I had to do something. I shoot him. I didn't want to kill him, but I was in panic and aimed to high. He was killed instantly."
"Oh my god."
"There were no gang relations. He was just a normal guy making an earnest living. The papers were full of it the next morning."
"Do you remember his name?"
He shook his head. Pete looked devastated, Lucy leaned over the table and took his hand.
"You had to do that. Otherwise he'd probably killed you."
"I just can't believe that thing has anything to do with your mom's death or your attack. He was a civilian."
Lucy shrugged: "I'll talk to Jax. He'll know what to do next. It'll help him clear his head."
"And you tell Jax to take better care of you! I'm trusting him with your life. I need to know you're safe!"
Lucy smiled: "I love you dad."
He pulled up an eyebrow and smiled: "I love you too baby. You'll always be my little girl. I just want to know you're safe."

Lucy arrived at the clubhouse shortly before noon and was glad to see Jackson's bike parked in front of it. She climbed out of her SUV and watched Tig hurry into the building. She followed him and sighed when she saw the Chapel's doors closed. That explained Tig's rush. Her conversation with Jax would have to wait. She turned around, left the clubhouse and walked towards the office. Gemma was sitting at her desk while typing something on the keyboard.
"Hey mama," Lucy smiled and hugged her from behind: "Where are Abel and Bella?"
"Groceries. We're having a little party tonight."
"Why?"
"No reason. I've just decided that we all need some fun."
Lucy laughed: "You're probably right."
"How's your daddy?"
"Good. We talked. How long have they been in there?" Lucy motioned towards the clubhouse.
"Not long. But I bet they'll be out soon. Does your dad have anything? Something that can help?"
"Maybe. I need to talk to Jackson about it."
"You don`t wanna tell me?" Gemma pulled up an eyebrow.
"Of course. I just wanna talk to Jax first. He's my husband."
"Fine," She snorted and continued looking at her screen.
Lucy sighed, then looked at her watch: "I need to get Abel to his doctor's appointment in an hour. You think Bella will make that?"
"Oh shit," Gemma cursed: "I totally forgot about that. I'll call her and tell her to hurry."
"Thanks, I'm gonna go wait for Jax inside."
Gemma nodded as she took out her phone and started dialing.
Lucy went back into the clubhouse and poured herself a diet coke. Cherry was standing in the kitchen, preparing some sandwiches, she smiled when she saw Lucy approach.
"Hi," Lucy joined her: "Need some help?"
"Nah. Thanks. I'm almost done. How are you doing?"
"I'm good. Just a little sore."
"I'm sorry that happened to you," Cherry smiled and offered her a sandwich. Lucy denied.
"Thanks. I'm going to be fine. Jax' taking care of everything."
"I'm sure he is," Cherry smiled knowingly.
Just then the doors opened and Lucy spotted Jax walking out of the building.
"Jax," she called but he was already out the door.
"I need to talk to him," she said towards Cherry and ran after her husband.
"Baby," she called when she had almost reached him.
He turned and smiled at her: "Hey babe. How'd it go with you dad."
"That's why I've been running after you like an Idiot. We need to talk."
"Sorry. I was in thoughts. Let's go to the apartment," Jax suggested and Lucy nodded.
They lay down on the bed next to each other and Lucy cuddled up into his arms.
"Where's Abel?"
"Grocery shopping with Bella. She's great. I really like her."
Jax kissed her forehead: "So? What did your dad say?"
Lucy propped herself up: "He told me about a security guard he killed years ago. The guy busted him and shooting him was his way out. But he doesn't really believe that it has anything to do with my mom's death or the attack."
"What was the guy's name?"
"He couldn't remember. Maybe we can call Wayne. He'll find out for us."
Jax nodded: "Okay baby."
"I just really want to put this all behind me Jackson. I just wanna go home," she threw her head back in frustration and pouted.
Jax pulled her towards him and kissed her. His finger's slid beneath her shirt and softly stroke her belly.
"What are you doing?" Things had been so hectic the last couple of weeks, they didn't really have time for each other. This really wasn't the right time but she was too crazy about him to make him stop.
"Apologizing for making you stay here," he smiled seductively.
Lucy giggled and straddled him. The way he was smiling at her made her heart skip a beat.
"Come here," he mumbled and pulled her down.
Lucy rubbed her pelvic against his crotch and grinned at the growns escaping his lips. His tongue slid into her mouth and she deepened their kiss. His hands ran from her back down to her ass and he pressed her harder against himself.
"Fuck me baby," she whispered into his ear.
"Oh god," he sighed and rolled them around. Now he was on top and in charge. He took off his shirt and watched as she lost her tank top and bra. He kissed his way from her neck, down her breasts to the waistband of her jeans. He slowly undid the button with one hand while the other was softly stroking her breast. He pulled her pants and panties down in one swift movement; then she watched him as he got up, undid his belt and let his jeans and boxers fall to the floor. She moaned in pleasure at the sight of him. He positioned himself and slowly pushed inside her. They moved in unison until his thrusts got harder and deeper. Lucy closed her eyes and concentrated on the feelings building up inside her. The way he moved above her, his unbelievable sexy growls and the sweat drops rolling down his cheek pushed her over the edge. She buried her fingers into his back leaving marks and she bit into his shoulder to keep herself from screaming his name.
"Oh baby," she purred and kissed his side. He closed his eyes and with one final thrust he released inside her. Heavily breathing they parted and Jax let himself fall on the empty side of the bed. They hadn't even caught their breaths when the bedroom door opened and Bella screamed at the sight of them.
"Fuck. I'm sorry," she closed her eyes. Abel was screaming his lungs out in her arms.
"I'm so sorry Lucy. He's hungry. I tried soothing him, but nothing helped"
Lucy laughed, pulled the sheets over her exposed husband, put on his large T-Shirt and hurried towards Bella, who was still standing in the doorway with closed eyes.
"Give him to me," Lucy said. She had totally forgotten Abel's feeding time and felt a bit guilty for putting Bella in this awkward position.
"I'm gonna go," Bella mumbled and closed the door behind her.
Lucy turned around and looked at Jax.
"Well, that was awkward."

Lucy heaved Abel's baby carrier out of the car and speed walked towards St. Thomas' entrance. Thanks to her quickie with Jackson and her son's delayed feeding she was now already twenty minutes late to his appointment.
When she reached the doctor's office a nurse told her to take a seat and wait. She sat down and rocked Abel's carrier with her foot. He was happily gargling and laughing at her.
When the office doors finally opened a very pretty and very pregnant doctor stepped out.
"Mrs. Teller?"
Lucy got up and followed her into examination room.
"I'm Doctor Cooper," she held out her hand. Lucy gasped when she saw the doctors beat up face. She tried to hide it with a lot of make-up, but Lucy knew what kind of marks a good pounding left. She had tried to do the same with the marks around her neck.
"This is Abel," Lucy smiled and lay Abel down in front of her. The doctor started her examination and Lucy watched her closely. She weighed Abel and seemed very pleased.
"How's he eating?"
"Good."
"And his sleeping?"
"He's sleeping just fine."
"Good," Doctor Cooper pushed a strand of hair out of her face and smiled.
"Do you know who I am?" Lucy asked, looking directly at her.
"My notes say you're Lucy Teller. Abel was born via emergency C-Section….."
"That's not what I meant," Lucy interrupted: "Do you know who I am?"
The doctor sighed: "You're Jackson Teller's wife. You're the biker princess."
Lucy nodded, then motioned towards the women's face: "Who was that?"
The doctor looked away and closed Abel's onesie. She didn't answer.
"You're what? 30 weeks pregnant. Do you really wanna take your baby home to him?"
She still didn't answer and handed Abel to his mother. Lucy strapped him back into the baby carrier.
"He looks good. I think we can extend the times between his appointments. You should come back in about six weeks." she held out her hand to Lucy: "If there is anything unusual, don't hesitate to come by."
Lucy shook her hand, picked Abel up and walked towards the door. She opened it but turned around before leaving.
"If you need help. Don't hesitate calling me. We can help you."
"I'm fine. Thank you," Dr. Cooper said before shutting the door in her face.

Lucy kept thinking about Dr. Cooper as she drove her car down Main Street. Abel was sleeping in the backseat. Tig was following her on his bike. He had offered to look after her and Abel for as long as necessary and Jax had gladly accepted. She loved Tig, but she didn't have as much fun with him as with Happy. She hadn't said that to Jackson though, he was still pissed as fuck at his brother.
The way the doctor had reacted made her believe that she hadn't been treated that way the first time. She cursed under her breath. She hated men that beat on their women. If Jackson ever lay hands on her she'd chop his goddam fingers off.
She touched her car's media screen and tapped on Jax' name.
"Babe, I'm in the middle of something," her husband answered his phone breathing heavy.
"Are you running?" She asked confused and somewhat worried.
"Yes. Was there a reason for calling?" He asked slightly annoyed.
"Sorry," she quickly said: "The stuff I sorted out. Abel's stuff. Where did you put that?"
"That was you're reason? I'm fucking working," he barked.
"It's important. I need to get in with someone."
"Aw shit. What did you do now?"
"Nothing," she rolled her eyes: "I'm not always getting myself into trouble you know!"
"Lucy!" He barked again.
"Sorry. It's for Abel's doctor. She needs my help. Just doesn't know it yet."
"I put it storage," he said. His breathing had steadied: "Promise me you're not in trouble!"
"Babe. I'm fine. I love you," she said and her finger hovered over the hang-up button.
"I love you," he replied chuckling before Lucy ended the call.
She headed towards the storage unit. Gemma had rented it a few years back and it held many memories. From time to time Jax and Lucy would drop off things. They both had a key.
When she arrived at the parking lot, she unbuckled Abel and took him out of his car seat. It was too hot to have Tig wait with him in the car.
"I need to get some stuff. Can you take him?" She asked and held him out to Tig. Tig smiled.
"Sure," he took Abel and watched her roll up the shutter.
Lucy found the box with Abel's baby clothes right away and pulled some unisex onesies out. She pushed them into her purse and was already on her way out when she saw a carton that read: Lucy House. She smiled. After she had given up her apartment she had put some things into these boxes and stored them in here. She sat down on a box of John Teller's things and opened hers.
"You okay?" Tig called, she waved and smiled at him.
Lucy took out a pile of old photos and started looking through them. The first was of her mother laughing into the camera. The next showed her family and Jax, all sitting around Gemma's dining room table. She could see Opie and Donna in the back, making out. She sighed, this picture had been taken just a few days before her mother's death. She put the pile back down. Looking at these pictures was just too painful. She was putting everything back, when a noise from behind startled her. She let the pictures fall to the floor.
"Sorry," Tig apologized. Lucy got down on her knees and started collecting the photos.
"It's fine. I'm a bit jumpy."
Just then her eyes fell upon a photo. It had been taken at her trip to the University of Nevada. It showed her standing next to a dark haired boy. They were both smiling in the camera. Suddenly Lucy knew where she had seen those eyes before.
