Peace within Madness
Konoka and Setsuna's Quote
"It is madness for sheep to talk peace with a wolf." ~ Thomas Fuller
It was a matter of minutes. This was the result. She should have felt remorse for her lack of interest when the axe came down upon her own blood and the guests of honor cackled. It was a matter of minutes, her innocence completely lost, left behind never to be found again. It wasn't needed. This was her world now, her life. Beside her, sitting on the throne, the only thing she would ever commit to. Inside her, the product of their union and the future of the nation, a bond unbreakable.
The throne room was dressed in red, a jest also part of this carnival in disguise. Under the severed, a white sheet splattered with blood stains and barrels filled with wine where the liquid in excess would pour and feed the hungry guests. The dancers stepped into the room and the feast began with a nod of her companion. And the corpses lied there for the rest of the evening, an intimidating decoration she could only feel mild interest for.
The trial had been a deliciously cruel thing. Giving their enemies a new route without them knowing they were being cornered right where they were wanted. They may have as well stepped on a silver plate to be served. Fools. They walked into the lion's den and it was too late when they realised it. Perhaps she shouldn't have felt a tug of thrill when the begging began; perhaps she was entitled to a bit of derangement given her own destiny, indirectly set up by the men -their remainders- few feet away from her. Alas, she should have been grateful, as she now was, for the lack of a better word, Queen Consort of all demons. And soon the lands beyond. It was unavoidable now, her wife's thirst for blood.
"Your hair has grown a bit, I think," Setsuna mused at her side. She was as regal as ever, with her tailored suit and her high ponytail. Impeccable, even. Not that Konoka would have accepted less on their wedding day, or 'bonding', as the demons called it. Although Konoka be damned before her wife took another woman that was not her, as bonding allowed the spouses to take other mates. She would kill her, and she had told her so when she was explained the differences between human and demon culture, weeks before the ceremony itself.
"And it's not only my hair that has grown," Setsuna's eyes lit up and she touched her wife's stomach out of instinct. Like any proud mother, Konoka let her hand rest for a minute before kindly removing it. She was still getting used to all the touching, and, frankly, the kid could get impossible when her wife gave it attention.
"You want to know what else has grown?" She caught her mischievous glint and grunted in disgust. Her hand automatically swatted her shoulder.
"You're a pig as always, I see." Setsuna blinked in confusion. It took her a moment before she understood and burst off laughing, which only got on Konoka's nerves. Realising her mistake and not wanting to sleep away from her wife on their honeymoon, she guided her sight to a corner far away in the room, where Ayaka was growling menacingly at the poor idiot who had dared look at her own mate in mild interest. With Konoka's attention diverted, Setsuna smirked in victory.
"You'd think Ayaka would step up and bond her now that she's expecting," Konoka mused, chortling when the vampire kicked the demon away and preened back to her companion, who merely rolled her eyes and kept on eating.
"I never thought a human would amuse me so,"
"You're part human,"
Setsuna snorted, "Yes, because I'm so amusing." Konoka patted her leg, her eyes locked on the scene before her. Her father's head now on a pike wielded by what must have been the most hideous troll in the country. And she still didn't bat an eye.
"I think you amusing, darling. You still think yourself scary around me." Setsuna laughed. Yes, her wife had become much too accustomed to her ways, the demon world in general. Her family had just died in front of her by her request, which Setsuna was all too happy to oblige. If any, thinking back to those cold eyes and playful smile when they plotted her family's demise together, Konoka was the scariest of them. A human turned monster from the inside. Corrupted and rotten to a point of no return. She would make it to history, no doubt, with the little plot she orchested.
Setsuna's eyes turned a tad darker. She smiled, wholly pleased with the way her life turned in the end. But more than an end, it was a new beginning. A new life she would seize and conquer with her own hands. Countless of deaths she saw ahead once, and now, with Konoka at her side, blood would pour from the skies, here and in every other kingdom in which their eyes landed and their hearts fancied. People and demon alike would hear their names and their skin will get cold, their minds blank and their chests heavy.
Every Lord would kneel before Setsuna's Dark Queen. Beyond the prairies there was land to be reigned, and they would fall to their feet or she herself would cut them off. Every life, be as small as it is, would be hers to command; the lights would go on and off at her word alone; the old songs of the human kings no more. Two would be enough to rule them all.
Her fingers strummed along her mate's stomach. Yes, it was just a matter of time.
Happiness belongs to the worthy, the strong-willed. There's no peace-talking in the land of wolves. Lambs will be ripped appart on sight.
Not even going to say sorry for being late. I have a job and college, on top of a life. Or life is on top of it, whichever.
