A/N: I'm sorry this took so long I've been busy with school and stuff. Also this hasn't been edited so yeah... But I like this chapter so yeah. Enjoy!

Chapter 19

Deanna looked at Sam, confused. "Why do you want to hide her from me? Does my lil bro have a crush?" She asked teasingly.

"What!? No! She's just... just..." Sam searched his mind for the right word.

"We're just friends." Ruby answered for him.

"Oh okay." Deanna said awkwardly.

It was blatantly obvious that Deanna didn't like or trust Ruby. Suddenly Deanna muttered something under her breath.

"Christo."

Ruby flinched as Deanna uttered the words and her eyes turned pitch black. Deanna noticed and looked between Ruby and Sam in shock.

"My little brother is friends with a demon? Unbelievable! How did this happen?" She demanded.

"You remember that brief period of time you were missing."

"It wasn't brief to me!" Deanna shot back.

"Whatever. While you were missing Ruby told me that she could help me find you."

"Well she failed."

"Um, maybe I should come back at another time." Ruby said awkwardly.

"No, it's fine. Stay."

"Go, we don't side with demons."

"Are you sure?" Ruby asked sarcastically.

"Yeah I'm sure. Leave now before I have to kill you."

Ruby laughed. "That would be tremendously ambitious of you." She said as she vanished.

Knowing that the demon was now gone Deanna turned to Sam and gave him the 'bitch face.'

"Seriously Sam? You're siding with demons now? You should know better than that!"

"What was I supposed to do Deanna? I couldn't just sit there and hope that maybe just maybe you'd come back."

"Well I'm back now, why are you still seeing her?"

"I'm a grown up now Deanna, I can make my own choices."

"Do Sherlock and John know?"

Sam hung his head. "Yeah, they know about Ruby." Sam reluctantly admitted.

"So they know that you're now best buds with a demon?"

"They don't know that per say."

"You didn't tell them?"

"What would I say?"

"How about just a heads up guys I'm now friends with that demon Ruby, you know the one I met while Deanna was..." Deanna cut herself off before she could say anything else. As much as Deanna wanted to tell Sam everything right then and there she didn't want him to know the extent of everything she'd been through.

"While you were where Deanna?" Sam yelled angrily. "During that whole time you were missing where were you!?"

"I- I can't talk about it Sammy." She said meekly.

"Oh because where you were was so painful? I don't know where you went but it couldn't possibly have been worse than the pain I felt when I lost you! I thought you were dead Deanna!"

Deanna looked at Sam in shock.

"Don't you dare to assume that you know. You don't know what I went through! Every moment of everyday was pure hell! You think you had it bad? Hah! You can't even begin to comprehend how bad I had it Sam!"

Her body shook with rage as she said the words. She knew that she was shaking due to the sheer amount of rage but somehow she didn't care. How dare Sam think he had it worse, how dare he!

"Oh, then tell me! What was worse than the pain of thinking you were gone for good Deanna? What!?"

"You can't even begin to understand." She said as she sagged against the door. "You know what, I don't want to deal with this. Goodbye Sam."

"What? You can't just leave!"

"I can and I will." Deanna said. She turned and left the flat.

Sam sagged down against the door frame. Oh god what had he done?

Sherlock and John...

Sherlock and John were walking back from Georgia's apartment. Sherlock was getting frustrated because he couldn't make any sense of the case. Why did the clocks stop at 1:16am? Why had Georgia's sister died? It just didn't make any sense.

"It doesn't make any sense John!" Sherlock yelled.

"Calm down Sherlock, you'll figure it out."

"Why her? What's the significance of 1:16am?"

"I don't know Sherlock, we can look it up when we get back to the flat."

Suddenly Deanna stormed past them. John barely managed to catch her wrist.

"Deanna? What are you doing out here? Aren't you working a case with Sam?"

Deanna made a low growling sort of sound. "Don't talk about Sam." She spat. She tried to yank her hand from John's but John had too good a grip.

"What happened?"

"He was a bitch!" She spat. "Let go of me. I have a case to investigate." Deanna managed to free her hand from John's and ran off down the street. John moved to go after her but Sherlock stopped him.

"Let her go, she clearly wants to be alone."

"But-"

"No. Look we have a case to solve and so does she. We'll sort out what's happening between her and Sam afterwards."

"That- that actually makes sense."

"Glad you see it my way, now come on we have some research to do."

When Sherlock and John got back to the flat they found Sam slumped over his laptop on the couch.

"Sam?"

"Oh hey guys, you're home." He stated.

"Yeah we are. Amazing powers of deduction." John said sarcastically.

Sam just nodded his head and went back to staring at his laptop. What he was doing on it, John couldn't tell.

"What are you doing?" He asked.

"Research." Sam stated bluntly.

"Oh."

"Speaking of research..." Sherlock interjected. "We have some to do as well."

"We do?"

"Yes! How else are we supposed to find out how Georgia's sister died?"

"Good point."

John went over to where his laptop had been discarded and picked it up. Sherlock began trawling through his phone, looking through anything that he thought might help. John looked through the internet for anything that could've possibly killed her how she'd been killed.

After just over an hour of searching they still had nothing. Not a single clue! Still they kept searching, because they had to find something, anything!

Meanwhile with Deanna.

Deanna continued walking down the street. She kicked a stone along the path as she went. She'd gone in and talked to some of the parents of the other dead children and all the stories seemed similar. So obviously it was the same thing committing the murders. But what?

Deanna decided that it was probably around time that she headed home. She went into the nearest tube station and got on one of the trains, not realising that she'd gotten on the wrong one. She was lucky enough to manage to get a seat on the train.

As she rode the tube she kept expecting to hear that Baker St was the next stop but the words never seemed to come. As she kept waiting her eyes began to droop. It was probably all the late nights, well actually the nights of not sleeping at all she'd had lately. But hey, it's not her fault that she's plagued with nightmares every time she goes to sleep.

She didn't even realise she was falling asleep until she was actually asleep. She opened her eyes to a whole different setting to the train. She looked around and found herself in some form of garden. It reminded her of the garden of eden from all those bible stories. In the center of the garden was Sam. He was dressed in a white suit and was holding a red rose in his hand. Sam had his back to Deanna.

"Sammy?"

Sam turned around smiling innocently. "Oh, hello Deanna." He said in a sickeningly sweet voice. It was clearly fake. "Aren't you a surprise."

"Who are you?" Deanna spat.

"Who am I? I'm what your brothers going to become Deanna."

"You're not my brother."

Not Sam smiled at Deanna. He leaned in close and hissed into her ear "I will be."

"Who are you?" Deanna repeated her question from earlier.

"You have many names for me. Most call me the devil."

Deanna stepped back in shock. "What!? You can't be!"

"But I am. Or I will be in your world."

Deanna stepped further away from Lucifer/Sam. Lucifer pouted. "What are you afraid of Deanna?"

"Oh I don't know, maybe that you're going to deep fry the planet!"

"Why would I do that? Why would I destroy this stunning thing, the last perfect handiwork of god."

Deanna stared at him dumbstruck. She hadn't expected him to say that. Lucifer moved closer to her and said "Did you ever hear the story of how I fell from grace?"

"Oh great, you gonna tell me a bedtime story?"

Lucifer smirked. "You know why god cast me down? Because I loved him, more than anything. But then God created..." He paused for a second. "You. The little...hairless apes. And then he asked all of us to bow down before you—to love you, more than him. And I said, "Father, I can't." I said, "These human beings are flawed, murderous." And for that, God had Michael cast me into hell. Now, tell me, does the punishment fit the crime? Especially, when I was right? Look at what six billion of you have done to this thing, and how many of you blame me for it."

Deanna laughed. "You're not fooling me with all this sympathy for the devil crap. I know what you are."

"Then tell me Deanna, what am I?"

"You're the same thing, only bigger. The same brand of cockroach I've been squashing my whole life. An ugly, evil, belly-to-the-ground, supernatural piece of crap. The only difference between them and you is the size of your ego."

Lucifer smiled. "I like you Deanna. Goodbye Deanna, we'll meet again soon."

"You better kill me now! Or I swear I'll find a way to kill you and I won't stop." She shouted.

"I know you won't. But Whatever you do, you will always end up here. Whatever choices you make, whatever details you alter, we will always end up—here. I win. So, I win."

"You're wrong." Deanna said even though something deep down in her knew he wasn't.

"See you in five years Deanna."

Lucifer smiled and vanished. She thought that that was the end of the dream but then she found herself in the middle of a graveyard. She was lying on the ground with Sam towering over her, but somehow she knew that the person towering over her wasn't her brother, not completely. Sure he wore his face but he wasn't him.

'Sam' leaned over him threateningly. Before Deanna could do anything to defend 'Sam' punched her square in the face. As he went in for another punch Deanna barely managed to grab his wrist to stop it.

"Sammy? You in there?"

"Oh he's in here, all right. And he's going to feel the snap of your bones. Every single one."

Not Sam punched Deanna very hard multiple times causing her to be barely able to find her feet let alone see through both eyes. Her right eye was quite fuzzy and she likely had a black eye from all of Sam's punches. She grabbed onto his shirt and refused to let go.

"It's okay, I'm here. I'm not going to leave you Sammy." Deanna said with tears falling from her eyes. Not Sam laughed at her and hauled her to her feet.

"You know what Deanna I liked you, then you got in my way. You know you're really quite stupid, anyone sane would have left by now. They would've realised that whatever it is you're trying to do won't work. Sam's mine, and he's going to feel the moment your heart stops beating. You see Sam's your weakness. I think that you know that, and us bad guys we know it too. Goodbye Deanna."

Deanna braced herself for Not Sam's killing blow but it never came. She woke up on the train. She looked around confused at first then she spotted Cas beside her.

"Cas?"

"Yes Deanna."

"What happened?"

"You were being attacked."

"Attacked? Attacked by what?"

"I don't know but whatever it is is powerful."

Deanna then realised that she could feel the pain from the injuries she'd gotten in the nightmare. But that couldn't be possible... unless she'd somehow gotten them in real life too?

"I can heal those if you want." Cas said suddenly startling her out of her thoughts.

"That would be great Cas."

Cas placed one of his hands on her forehead and all of the pain disappeared.

"How did you do that?"

"I'm an angel."

"Right."

Deanna pulled her phone out of her pocket and scrolled through her contacts. When she got to Sam's her fingers hovered over the call button. She wanted to talk to Sam after her nightmare but what if Sam was still annoyed at her?

"Deanna, I think that you should call him." Cas said bluntly.

"O-okay." Deanna said awkwardly. She pushed the call button and shakily held the phone to her ear.

"Deanna?" Sam answered.
"Oh thank goodness you answered! Are you okay?" She asked quickly the 'Sam' from her dreams springing to her mind.

"I'm fine, why?"

"Oh it's nothing." Deanna said dismissively.

"She had a nightmare." Cas said in the background. Deanna hit him on the arm.

"Shut up Cas!"

"Are you okay?" Sam asked her very seriously.

"I am now. Look I think I might have an idea as to what's doing the killings but I don't know for sure."

"How?"

"Let's just say, it came to me in a dream." Deanna said smirking.

"Well what's your theory?"

"Have you ever heard of a Mare?"

"I think I've heard of it before. Why?"

"I think that's what's been killing the children."

"Why?"

"Because I'm pretty sure it just came after me."

"Oh god. Where are you?"

"Don't worry about it Sam, I'll come to you." She said hanging up the phone.

Deanna turned to Cas. "Cas can you transport me to Sam?"

"Yes." Cas said putting his hand on Deanna's forehead. There was a huge flash of light. When it was gone Deanna was falling to the floor of 221B. Sherlock and John both saw this and stared at the human angel duo in confusion.

"Hey guys." She said getting up brushing any dust off herself.

"That was quick." Sam said.

"That's because I flew air angel." Deanna said jokingly. "Now about the Mare..."

It was barely more than 10 minutes after Deanna had arrived that they had multiple pages of information up about the Mare. The Mare is said to be an evil spirit or goblin that rides on people's chests as they sleep bringing bad dreams. They also are said to ride horses. Fortunately the internet was helpful enough to give them a method of killed the Mare. It was said that a Mare could be killed by a sharp arrow made from a mountain bird's tail.

Deanna asked Cas if he could by any chance get them arrows made from a mountain birds tail. Castiel nodded and vanished. As they waited for Cas to return Deanna busied herself by looking over John's shoulder at this research. Sam was finding out as much as he could about the Mare.

"John? What actually is you guy's case?" Deanna asked out of the blue.

John explained the case to her and she stepped back in shock. "John! You guys are dealing with the exact same thing as we are!"

"What?"

"Your case is exactly like ours just with an older victim."

"Oh!" John exclaimed. "Looks like we're going on a lovely family outing."

"With Sherlock." Deanna added.

"Yes, with Sherlock."

At that moment Cas appeared with the arrows needed to kill the Mare. Deanna took an arrow from him and spun it around in her hands.

"Let's go gank this son of a bitch!"

"Yeah that's a great plan, just one thing." Sherlock responded.

"What?"

"We don't know where it actually is."

"Good point." She said flopping down onto the couch.

She steepled her fingers in a mock version of what Sherlock did when he was thinking. Suddenly she shot up.

"We do know where it is!" She exclaimed.

"We do?" The others all asked.

"Yes! Think about it. It went after me. When has it ever left survivors? It'll come after me again sooner or later."

"We have no guarantee that it will Deanna." Sam said doubtfully.

"It's our best chance Sammy."

"Alright..." Sam said uneasily. "It looks like you're our bait."

"Yup! I'm the bait!"

The clock had just struck midnight and there was still no sign of the Mare. They were all beginning to become restless at the lack of action.

"What made it come after you the first time?" Sherlock asked.

"I don't know, I just sort of fell asleep."

"Maybe that's what you need to do now."

"What? And miss the action? No way."

"It's our best chance."

"Fine!" Deanna said throwing her hands up in the air in annoyance.

Once Deanna had fallen asleep the lights began to flicker. John turned as he heard the shuffling footsteps of what seemed like a small child. They all held their weapons ready. They had to strike before it got a chance to kill Deanna. Suddenly Deanna screamed, her back arching upwards. The Mare was attacking her.

"Cas? Can you see it?" Sam asked frantically.

"Yes Sam. It's on her chest."

"Okay, do you think it'd notice if I snuck up behind it?"

"It's unlikely as the Mare is currently consumed in killing Deanna."

"Good."

Sam crept as quietly yet as quickly as he could towards where the Mare was resting on Deanna. Sherlock and John were moving to the other sides of Deanna making sure that if Sam failed the Mare would still get killed. Once in position Sam thrust his arrow into what he guessed was the center of the Mare. It was hard as he couldn't see it and had no guarantee that he hadn't accidentally killed his only sister instead.

"Cas did I hit it?" Sam asked.

"Yes." Cas replied.

Sam let out the breath he hadn't realised he'd been holding. It was going to be okay. Everything was going to be fine. The Mare was dead and Deanna would live. Sure maybe Deanna knew about Sam's secret with Ruby now but he should've known she'd find out eventually. He just had to prove to her that Ruby was to be trusted. Deanna just didn't understand in her mind all demons are evil and need to be exterminated. Sam respected that but not all demons are bad. Some are good.

Sam smiled down at his sleeping sister. For the first time since she'd gotten back she looked well and truly happy. Maybe this time things wouldn't blow up in their faces. Maybe it'd be okay. Just maybe.

Heaven...

Castiel stood in the middle of a field along with many other angels. They'd been called back to heaven by none other than Michael the top archangel. There was a lot of chatter among the angels as to why Michael might've called them there.

A huge crack of lightning sounded and Michael's voice boomed. "Be quiet!"

All the angels immediately stopped talking and looked at Michael. "I have something very important to tell you all. The apocalypse is nigh. Our brother Lucifer will rise."

Castiel stared shocked at Michael. The whole reason he'd stayed on Earth in the first place was to stop Lucifer from being freed but now he's being told that they want Lucifer free? No. This can't be happening. He had to get back to Earth. He had to warn Deanna.

After hearing the announcement the other angels all cheered knowing that finally Lucifer would be slayed and they'd have their paradise on Earth. Castiel knew the truth though. Even though he was an angel he'd come to appreciate the Earth. The angels getting their paradise would destroy half the planet! He had to tell them! Castiel tried to use his 'angel mojo' to teleport back to Earth but found himself cut off.

Zachariah smiled at him. "Going somewhere Castiel?" He asked mockingly.

"I need to get back to my post."

"We both know we're you're really going to go Castiel. You're going to go warn that family about what's coming, but you're not going to. I won't let you."

"You can't stop me."

"But Michael can. Think about this Castiel. Are you really going to go against God's plan all for the sake of one insignificant species?"

"What we're doing isn't right."

"It's destiny. All us angels have worked too long and too hard for this and that family they're right in the center of it. Don't interfere."

"Why not? So you can kill them for the sake of 'God's plan'? He wouldn't want this Zachariah. He wouldn't want this." Castiel repeated.

"It's destiny, destiny can't be stopped. Destiny can't be changed Castiel. All roads lead to the same destination."

A/N: Oh yeah introducing some new characters. See you next chapter!
