A heavy silence waged a war between Hao and Kagome, as if the animals themselves were afraid to coo or cackle. Kilala who was still asleep on her shoulder, hidden beneath her long black hair, was unaware of the danger Kagome had placed herself in.

"...I can't seem to recall your name."

"I would assume that's because I never gave it to you, the first time we saw each other." She looked up at the stars and tried to ignore Hao who was still staring at her. It felt as if his eyes were burning holes into her very soul, and she found that she couldn't meet them head on. "The first time we met, you were...well..." she laughed as she forced her eyes to look back at his, "...for one, you were taller. As I think about it, I'm kind of piecing things together. What you said...'time belongs to me', the Hao I met, was your incarnation, wasn't it?" She nodded, as if verifying her own conclusion.

"The Hao Asakura from five hundred years ago, was a different body, born into the Patch Tribe, bearing the name Asakura...however, the soul is mine...they are all one in the same. All the memories, all the power...all the furyoku."

Kagome shrugged, not knowing what the last one he mentioned was, she didn't pay much regard to his smirk. "All that is fine and dandy, for a while, I was honestly terrified that you had somehow lived to be five hundred and something years old...and then, as if that wasn't enough, I thought you had figured out a way to obtain eternal youth, or something." She laughed, "instead, it turns out you're just like me. Albeit, a hell of a lot stronger...but still." She stood and stretched, accidently knocking Kilala off her shoulder who was quick to flip in the air and land on all fours.

"...just like you?" Hao laughed, looking humored by that stretch. "You seem so sure. I on the other hand, don't see the similarities, perhaps you could share them?"

"We are both reincarnations of our past selves, and with the five hundred year difference, we have both become stronger with this new life, and while I do believe you are still stronger, I do not doubt my own strengths."

"Would you show me your strengths?"

"I won't," Kagome shook her head and glanced down to the curious looking Kilala who was staring back and forth between herself and Hao. "I have confidence in my strengths, Hao...but I'm no fool. I know your strengths as well, I've seen your power, and I know you could easily kill me without so much as breaking a sweat. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't afraid of you..."

"You talk a lot, you know." He laughed in a surprisingly carefree manner.

Kagome shook her head, "normally, not so much. However, somehow, I find myself able to talk easily with you."

"So you trust me!"

Kagome stared at the boy in front of him, he seemed excited by such a revelation, but she shook her head. "I wouldn't say trust, your powerful enough, that I don't think you are the type to depend on friends or keep allies. You get rid of people who aren't useful to you, I'm correct, yes?"

He said nothing, and the smile on his face didn't waver a bit. That was enough to answer her question though.

"Rather than saying 'I trust you', it would be more accurate to say...'I feel attached to you'. You're someone I can connect with. The fact that you are one of the few things left of the past that I'm familiar with, is enough for me. Hao...I'm not ready to let go of the past, I never was...but I want to."

Not once during all the time she spoke, did Hao take his eyes off of her. She wasn't what he would call an unearthly beauty, she was pretty, but not breathtaking...her voice wasn't anything he'd fall asleep and dream of, nor was he all that interested in her life story. However...he couldn't deny, that something about the girl, drew him to her. He had listened to everything she had to say, and he found himself speaking once he was sure she was finished. "Tomorrow..." he started, his smile still in place, "...I am leaving with a few of my followers, to America. We will be participating in the Shaman Fight which will take place in the Patch Village, and I would like to extend an invitation to join me. However, you will not be allowed to participate, since you are not a Shaman, nor in the competition..."

"Then why ask me to come along?"

"...call it morbid curiosity."

Kagome frowned, "...I don't know."

He shrugged, "the choice is yours, Kagome. However, if you truly wish to leave the past behind, then you need to take steps towards the present, and look to the future before you. I will wait at the Nippon Tokyo Airport until noon...If you change your mind..."

Kagome stared for a moment before nodding, turning, she made to walk away.

"I hope you decide to come."

She paused for a second before running with Kilala at her heels.

Shippou woke up to find his mom walking inside the shrine, he'd been sleepy after running around all over the place and had gone to bed earlier than normal, but he hadn't even known his mother had left.

"Mama, where were you?" He asked as she sat down on the couch he'd curled up on with a blanket earlier.

"...it's a long story, Shippou, come sit down."
