Chapter Nineteen

Quietly the next morning Bella entered the hotel suite. She was hoping everyone was still going to be asleep. He placed her shoes on the floor and sat on the couch. She thought she was home free when she leaned her head back and closed her eyes.

"Where the hell have you been?" Edward scolded Bella. He was sincerely worried all night about her and hardly slept.

Smiling, Bella looked at her friend. "Morning lover boy."

"Stop," Edward said as he sat next to her. "Where were you? You didn't answer your cell and you weren't in bed when I got in."

"Did you need someone to gush with after you and Alice got busy?" Bella teased.

Edward shook his head. "What? I have no idea what- you heard us?"

Laughing, "You two weren't exactly quiet, Edward. I think people two blocks away might have heard you."

Sheepishly, Edward looked at Bella. "I'm sorry about that."

"No worries. You two were in the moment. "

So," Edward began. "That brings us back to my original question. Where did you escape to?"

Taking a deep breath, Bella looked at Edward. "I had a visitor last night."

"Carlisle?" Edward innocently asked.

"Yes. It was a little funny that he knew exactly where I was," Bella said pausing. She looked at Edward who looked guilty. "Edward it was fine, relax. We talked and he seemed apologetic."

"Did you, well, sleep with him?"

"I think it's too late to ask that question, don't you?" Bella asked as she rubbed her stomach.

"Bella," Edward said in frustration.

Shaking her head, she looked at Edward. "No. After you and Alice came back filled with passion, it got loud. I mean really loud. He offered me refuge at his hotel and we talked a little more and I feel asleep. He slept in the chair. I had the big bed to myself."

"How did he seem? How did it go?" Edward inquired.

"Well, it went. Like I said, he seemed very apologetic and seems to feel bad for his misunderstanding. He admitted that he was wrong."

Shaking his head, Edward put his arm around Bella. "I still feel responsible."

"Well don't. You needed me and Carlisle was insecure and didn't see our relationship for what it is. He admitted that."

"Okay, now that he knows, are you two back together? Where did he move to?"

Bella thought before she responded to Edward's questions. "I love him, still, more than I ever thought I could. Seeing him in front of me, I wanted to kiss him, to love him. I was also scared and I shook. I never thought I'd see him again. It was almost like a ghost was standing in front of me. I still love him more than I should have after this stupid stunt of moving but, no and I don't ever see that happening. I told him there would never be an us again. I told him I didn't want him."

Seeing how sad Bella got, Edward looked at her with a questioning look. "Why?"

"For starters, I'm angry at hell at him for said disappearing act. Also, he didn't trust me. I was also a little shocked and overwhelmed with him standing at the door."

Edward nodded. "How did you leave things this morning?"

"He felt the baby move, which made him happy. She kept moving around like crazy."

"She?"

"I don't know for sure, just a hunch. He said he'd be in touch. He would like ultra sound pictures and he wants to be present for the birth."

"And you said…"

Bella reflected on a conversation she and Edward had after Carlisle left.

Edward held Bella as she cried into his shoulder. "I hate him Edward, I really do."

"That's totally understandable," Edward said trying to comfort his friend as he rubbed her back.

Bella took a deep breathe and began to cry. "Why did he do this to me? Why did he leave me? Why doesn't he want me? Why do people keep leaving me?"

Edward hugged Bella tight. "I don't know."

"I hate him, I loath him. I don't want him to know about the baby. He chose to move and not tell me, he doesn't get to know about this amazing human being. I don't want our child to know the disappointment that he put me through. I hope he never comes back. I hope I never see him again. From this day forward Carlisle Cullen is dead to me."

"To be fair, I wasn't expecting to ever see him again and I am a walking ball of raging hormones, so yea, to see him again, out of the blue, was a little shocking. I think I handled it well. There were minimal tears shed. I did tell him we'd stay in touch and if he was serious about being in the delivery room we'd make it happen. I mean he might have turned out to be an awful boyfriend, but he is a wonderful father. His children mean everything to him. Really, I can't deny the baby of that. I have to think about the baby and not just me."

As Bella finished her thoughts, Alice came out to the living room wearing Edward's button up shirt from the night before with a pair of shorts. She was rubbing her eyes. She walked over to the chair and sat down. Looking at Bella, she smiled. "Dr. Mason told me last night that he loves me."

Bella over heard that the night before but she didn't want to ruin her friends' moment. "Really? That's really great. I am so happy for you guys."

Alice walked over to the couch and sat between Bella and Edward. She leaned up and kissed Edward's cheek. Her eyes locked with Edward's. Bella could see the love radiate from their eyes. Alice broke the moment and looked at both Bella and Edward. "Are you guys ready for your secret project that you don't tell me about?"

Edward kissed Alice's head and held her hand. "We're leaving soon. Maybe an hourish? Sound good with you?"

Bella stood up. "I should start to get ready then. I'll see you guys in an hour."

Edward pulled up to a cute house in the suburbs of Seattle. The lawn was manicured. Edward looked at Bella. "This is a nice place."

"Very suburban. Not what I was expecting," Bella replied.

"Are you sure you want to do this?"

Bella looked at Edward. "Are you sure you want to do this?"

Looking at the front door and not knowing for sure what laid beyond there, Edward shook his head. "Yes. I need to do this."

"Then let's do it," Bella said as she opened the door.

Edward led Bella to the front door and rang the doorbell. The door opened. The man answering the door was shocked to the point he couldn't speak.

"Jazz, did you get the door? I don't want the doorbell to wake up-" Tanya's voice soon froze with surprise. She shook her head. "Did someone die? Oh my god Edward, it was Ed wasn't it? Too many cigars with my dad and too much red meat. Edward I'm-"

Bella shook her head. "No one died. We came here to talk to you, both of you. May we come in?"

Jasper moved away from the door. "Of course, please come in."

"Could we get you anything to drink?" Tanya offered.

"Sure, a water please?" Bella asked.

"One for me too please," Edward added.

Jasper lead Bella and Edward into the living room. It was half littered with baby accessories. An empty bouncy seat sat near the fire place. A baby monitor sat upon the mantel. They three adults sat in silence. Tanya soon joined them. After handing Bella and Edward their bottles of water, the four of them sat in silence. Jasper looked at Tanya and then looked at Bella and Edward. "I thin to say we are shocked to see you guys would be the understatement of the year.

"What are you guys doing here? I mean, I signed the paper Edward. Did you get them?"

"This isn't about the divorce papers," Edward started. "We have done some talking and thinking and more talking and we wanted to tell you guys that we forgive you."

"What?" Jasper asked looking from Edward to his sister. He remembered the way she rightfully so yelled at him the last day they saw each other.

"We forgive you. It took some time, but we both forgive you. We wanted to tell you in person." Bella reiterated. She looked at Jasper and offered him a half smile. "Jasper, you are my only blood relative. Let's face it, we aren't that close but it doesn't change the fact that we are siblings. You and Tanya were reckless and hurt a lot of people in the process but I can't hate you, either of you or be mad at you forever."

Tanya's icy blue eyes met Edward's green. "What about me? Do you forgive me?"

Edward took a deep breath before he place his bottle on the table. "You hurt me Tanya in a way that I have never been hurt before. I loved you so much and only wanted to make you happy. I hurt after we began to drift apart. Once the details of your affair came to light, I was upset, like really upset." He paused and looked at Tanya once again. "I tried to end my life."

"What?" Tanya gasped. Tears fell from her eyes.

Edward walked over to her and knelt next to her. He wiped her tears away. "Don't cry. I could never stand to see you cry." He paused and continued. "I didn't know how to cope. I can see now that it was foolish and idiotic. I am in a much better place than I was six months ago. I got the help that I needed and I had a good support system for me," he smiled looking at Bella. "I got through it and I'm over it. I moved on and while doing so I realized in order to fully get over everything, I had to do something more than sign a bunch of papers through our lawyers. I had to come and tell you myself that I forgive you. You aren't a horrible person Tanya. If you were a terrible person I would never have fallen in love with you. Jasper wouldn't have fallen in love with you. The only thing you did that was upsetting was fall out of love with me. I don't hate you, I'm not even mad any more. I wanted to tell you that in person."

Tanya's eyes were still filled with tears. She stood up and hugged Edward as she continued to cry. "You are a good man Edward Mason. The best of the best. I was fortunate to have you in my life for a little while. I'm sorry I changed, I hope you find someone who deserves you."

Thinking of Alice, Edward smiled. "I have recently found someone. It's a new relationship and we are in the early stages but I'm hoping for the best."

Bella looked at Jasper and smiled. "So do I have a niece or nephew?"

Tanya pulled herself away from Edward's embrace and wiped her eyes. Jasper looked at Tanya before he spoke. "Let me get the baby and introduce you."

The three watched Jasper walk up the stairs. Tanya approached Bella. She squeezed her hands. "Thank you."

Bella smiled and squeezed back. "You two didn't mean to hurt anyone. Cheating is terrible but it just means you and Edward weren't met to be. I figured if he could find the strength to forgive the two of you then I could too. I didn't want to hate both of you. We should know firsthand that life is too short to be foolish."

"Okay here we are," Jasper said bringing a wrapped baby over. "Bella, I would like to introduce you to your niece, Renee Rose," Jasper paused as he looked at Bella. "I hope you're not angry about me using mom's name. I wanted to call you and ask but didn't think you'd take my call."

Bella was a little taken back but tried not to show it. She was irritated that her brother took their mother's name for his first born, however, she was able to overlook that. "No, it's a perfect name."

"We've been calling her Neigh. She's a great baby. She's almost a month and is almost sleeping through the night. Would you like to hold her?"

"Sure," Bella answered. She rocked the baby back and forth and looked at her. She was a perfect mix of both Jasper and Tanya.

Jasper chuckled. "What a surprise, you look like a natural. It's a good thing, isn't it? It looks like you are adding to the old man's brood?"

Politely smiling, Bella nodded. "Something like that."

"He must be thrilled," Tanya added. "He loves kids so much. He is such a good man. You are very lucky Bella."

"Right," Bella said looking at Edward.

Edward and Bella stayed a little while longer. They shared stories and played pass the baby. When they left, they made promises of staying in touch.
