Chapter 9

"This is a very interesting ship you got here?" The dock worker examined the Ebon Hawk. The man seemed unbothered by the cold poring rain that pounded them. Meetra Surik on the other hand was drenched and cold to the bone. "Don't think I have ever seen this kind before."

"it's a custom built ship." Atton moved in close to the dock worker. "Now what was this about a landing pass?"

"Every ship that lands in the dock has to have one. It allows the Military to track every ship that comes and goes from here."

Atton glanced at Meetra as if asking for help. She just waved him on reminding him that he said that he would handle this.

"Well my friend," Atton patted the dock worker on the back, "in our line of work we don't necessarily want the military to track us."

Meetra hung her head. That was a mistake.

"Are you claiming to be outlaws?" The dockworker gasped.

"No of course not." Atton assured the man. "But let's just say that there is more money to be made when one does not have to share it with the powers that be."

"Money to be made in what?" now the greed of the man starts to show. Good work Atton. Nice save.

Atton reached into his pocket and pulled out a handful of small gems. "We recently came into a large amount of these and we know this is the only place where we can get them turned into real money. But as you may know doing it officially would cost a lot more then say doing it with the help of some friends."

The dock worker thought about it for a moment. "And how much would these friends get?"

Atton had him and he knew it. Now all he needed to do was seal the deal. "Well that depends on how helpful these friends are. See we are new here, so not only would we need a landing pass but a place to stay and a contact that could help with these."

The moment of truth. Would the risk be worth the reward? The Dock worker knew he could get into a lot of trouble if he let them go. But then he thought they were just here to sell some gems and then would be on there way. How much trouble could they cause?

Meetra reached out with the force and touched the mans mind. Pushing on his greed and enforcing the idea that he would not get caught.

"Well if you give me that fistful you got there I might be inclined to tell you where you can get all those things." The Dock Worker smiled.

Atton paused as if he was thinking it over. "Done." Atton reached out and took the mans hand as if agreeing to a contract and he let the gems fall into the Dock worker's.

Shoving his hand into his pocket the dock worker started to punch a few buttons on his data terminal. "I can make you a fake Landing Pass but only if you stay for a few days. More then that and people will start to get suspicious. As for a place to stay and a contact here in the City." he transferred something to Atton's data pad. "That's a nice enough place and they don't ask to many questions. And that guy can get you with just about anything."

"You sir, are a grate man." Atton patted the Dock Worker on the back as he came trotting to where Meetra was standing out of the rain.

"What do you think? Pretty good hu?" he beamed as the two started walking. Meetra wrapped herself tighter in her clock trying to stay warm.

"I think he would have done all of that for half the price." Meetra commented. "And considering how quickly he made that false landing pass I would say this isn't the first time he has taken a bribe."

"Other then that how did I do?"

Meetra reached out and patted him on the back. "You done good Atton. You done good."

Atton transferred the data he had gotten to Meetra's data pad. "Think we could find a terminal around here that we could download an area map of this City?"

Meetra looked around. "I'm not sure if plugging our data pads into a local terminal would be a smart move."

"Why not?"

"This isn't the Republic Atton." the two walked out of the cover of the space port and onto the street and back into the rain.

"Yeah if it was they would probably have covered streets. I sure hope it is not like this all the time." Atton tightened himself under his own cloths.

"My point is this is a Police state. They monitor everything, and who is to say what alarms a Republic data pad being plugged in around here would do."

"Ah I see." Atton mulled the thought over for a moment. "We should also stop comparing things to the Republic then hu?"

"I think that would be a good first step."

The two of them walked down the path both trying their best to stay dry.
