Mass Effect: Guerrillas
AN: …OK I'm back... Let's get on with it shall we!
Siege of Keplar Part 3
The West City Bridge. One of 3 bridges crossing a river gorge surrounding 3 sides of the city. The turians took the bridge in their initial push and weren't just going to hand it over. Companies of Legionaries and armored vehicles were preparing for one final push their commander hoped would finally take the city. The Red Faction planned on crushing those hopes.
Jake looked at the bridge through a pair of binoculars. Snipers on overwatch, Machine gun nests, and counting the troops in the staging area on the opposite side of the bridge hundreds upon hundreds of alien soldiers. The upcoming battle would be interesting to say the least.
"So how many." came a gruff voice from behind him.
Jake turned around to face the 3 troopers and squad of heavy troopers behind him. "Just a few hundred soldiers and tanks. No biggie" he said nonchalantly.
The troopers looked shocked while the heavies remained impassive. "N...No Biggie?!" sputters out one of the troopers. "There are only 9 of us and hundreds of them. I don't think we can pull this off."
"We can and we will." came the gruff voice from earlier. One of the heavy troopers stepped forward and pulled off his helmet. Jake and the rest of the men gazed on the scarred face of Heavy Trooper Commander Lyle 'Ruthless' Redak. "If we don't destroy this bridge then we've lost the planet. I don't know about you but I have family here and I'll be damned if I let some fucking aliens take this planet to do God knows what to them. Are you with me?!"
Jake and the rest of the soldiers gave their confirmation. With a final nod Redak puth back on his helmet and said "You troops will provide a distraction while Mason does what he does best."
"What about you, sir?" asked one of the troopers.
"Son, I'll do what I do best..." Redak then hoisted up his Autocannon, a minigun like weapon with a backpack ammo case. "Clean Up" he said while rotating the barrels.
A series of explosions brought the turians attention towards several soldiers on the other side of the bridge firing on them. The officers in charge prepared to send a force to eliminate them until a single soldier in heavy armor came walked towards them mowing down any in his way with a large weapon. The turians returned fire but the small mass effect pellets bounced of his armor like they were thrown pebbles. A turian sniper fired a round at the armored human the slug throwing him off balance. This only caused the human to shift his attention to the turian his weapon turning the unfortunate soldier into a hole filled meat chunk to the horror of his comrades. The other human soldiers began advancing four of them wearing similar armor while the other three wore suits not unlike turian combat armor. Faced with such opposition the officer in charge ordered the troops in the staging area to advance. The soldiers of the hierarchy did as they were told and advanced on the humans who held their ground.
A turian Cabal was following her comrades until she glimpsed something slip under the bridge. Her curiosity peaked she followed it. A small maintenance catwalk ran underneath the brigde and after climbing down a nearby ladder the turian found a human in black armor in the middle of setting what looked like explosives on the underside of the bridge's center. The human must have heard her because he turned around with his weapon raised. Unfortunately for him she was a biotic. A quick throw sent him flying backwards while his weapon fell into the river far below. He then pulled out a hammer and tried to swing at her with it. Ducking the weapon she hit him in the stomach with a biotically charged punch. The blow caused the human to bend over in pain and quick kick sent him to the ground. The human laid on his side in pain. She walked over to him capture him when suddenly he swiped her legs out from under her. She landed on the ground while the human ran off. She prepared to give chase until she noticed small cylinder in front of her. The turian had just enough time to run several feet and say a curse before the grenade exploded. She was thrown into a nearby support completely out cold.
Jake walked over to the alien to confirm the kill. He found it... her... was still breathing. At least he thinks it's a her. It's a lot thinner than the other aliens and the wide hips was a bit of a dead giveaway. After a moment of thought he picked her up and slung her over his shoulder. Bobby might like a prisoner to interrogate after all.
"Siri." he said "Send a message to Bobby and tell him to get ready to see some fireworks."
Jake then activated his comlink and said "Guys you better get a safe distance away because I'm about to blow these guys a new one!" He then pulled out a detonator and pressed the trigger.
The turians on the bridge watch as a glowing blue orb not unlike a biotic singularity appeared in the center of the bridge and began pulling soldiers, vehicles, and even parts of the bridge itself toward it. Then without warning the singularity exploded sending bodies and rubble outwards in all directions. The supports gone the bridge began collapsing and the soldiers unfortunate to have survive being pulled in plummeted into the river below to meet a watery end. The turian officer in charge looked at the devastation and wondered how he was going to explain this to the admiral. As if sent by the spirits himself a courier reported that some entrances into the city's sewers had been found foolishly left open by the defenders. He ordered all remaining troops to pour into the sewers hoping they could still salvage this invasion.
Jake made it back to the FOB and was welcomed by deafening cheers. Troops rushed to shake him and the rest of the team's hands congratulating them on their victory. Commander Redak even cracked a smile. Jake went up to the roof where he found Bobby surveying the area with a pair of binoculars.
"Beautiful" he said "Simply Beautiful."
"I know Bobby." said Jake "I outdone myself with the bridge. It is definitely one of my best."
"Not the bridge Mason. Though that was nice. We could see the explosion from here. I'm talking about the trees." he said gesturing to the forest of pink leaved trees on the other end of the river. "The Keplar Blossom. I heard they were planning on planting some on Mars to liven the place up a bit. Good I say. The place could use more plants."
"Excuse me Guerrilla Bass" interjected Siri "But I never took you as a lover of plant life."
"I love plants. It's life you know. Like people but without all the extra bullshit. You just give planets a little water and a little sunlight and they're happy. Don't need much else. Not like people or AI for that matter." he said with a slight grin.
"Sorry Guerrilla Bass but I don't need much either." said Siri
"Bullshit!" yelled Mason "What about that autobody you keep trying to get me to buy for you!?"
"But it has realistic skin, pain and pleasure receivers, simulated tastebuds, and onboard combat systems!"
"I may be a commando but I don't make that much! You can save up your money and get it yourself!"
"But my calculations say that it'll take another 10 years of saving before I can purchase. Please Jake?" she said sounding very much like a five year old begging her parents for candy.
"Fine. You raise up half the money and I'll cover the other half." Jake said compromising.
"Thank you Jake." said Siri. Internally she was going YES!
"Well if that isn't sweet." said Bobby.
"Oh yeah. I just remembered. Bobby I have someone for you to meet. She's downstairs."
"She? Did Mason bring himself home a girl?"
"Something like that..."
Guerrilla Handbook
Autocannon- A lightweight minigun designed to be carried by a single man. The 6 barreled weapon is typically used for anti armor duties but it's also a very effective antipersonnel weapon. The backpack ammo case has a maximum capacity of 5000 armor piercing rounds. The only strategy for this weapon is hold the trigger.
Lyle 'Ruthless' Redak- Commander of the Heavy Trooper forces on Keplar. Lyle earned the name ruthess due to his take no prisoners attitude in combat. Is know to carry a autocannon with him into battle which he uses to mow down enemy forces with extreme prejudice.
Singularity Weaponry- Singularity mines and grenades were used extensively by the EDF during the revolution. After the war they found use in the hands of the Red Faction. The singularity pulls everything towards it before firing it outward turning rubble, vehicles, and even people into makeshift shrapnel.
Autobody- Autobodies are artificial bodies AI can upload themselves into. Most AIs save up their salaries to afford one. The cheaper bodies are simple robotic mechs with synthetic skin weaves while the more expensive models are nearly indistinguishable from organic humans. The Council moved to ban Autobodies from council space for this reason but this was met with large amounts of protest from Red Faction citizens. Eventually autobodies were allowed but they must wear identification tags at all times making them the target of discrimination from Earth Humans and Council species.
Red Faction Heavy Troopers- Clad in the toughest power armor the UMS can make the heavy troopers are the faction's heavy hitters. The Heavy Troopers are deployed alongside armored vehicles and typically carrying weaponry that's usually used on vehicles like Gauss Cannons, Autocannon, and Heavy Rocket Launchers. Council and Terminus forces deploy anti vehicle weaponry when encountering heavy troopers since their thick armor is all but impervious to small arms fire.
