Chapter 10:: No Longer Lost
The morning rays of New York seeped into the expensive penthouse's windows and illuminated the furniture within, forcing the countertenor out of his slumber. What's supposed to be a week visit to New York morphed into a more permanent stay.
It has been just over a month since they began dating and although it has still remained a rocky, emotional road for them, Kurt knew perfectly well that he can't stop thinking about him.
Blaine.
The blind author had managed to get the novel almost completed even further and with only 2 weeks left before he was to send the completed book to Graham Woods, his friend and head manager of MountCrest Publishing. Kurt had been so excited to work with the one-and-only novelist on his first day just 2 months ago and now, he couldn't believe that he was in love—
I love Blaine?
The heart-stopping question made the man freeze and he sat up, still insecure and it took him a lot of courage to realize he could find love after what happened in high school...
Memories of David Karofsky tormenting and terrifying him took over and he shivered, heart racing as he tried to shake them off. But it was Blaine's face that mentally calmed him. The man's handsome features, his apparently muscled build under his trim-fitting clothes, his cautious kindness and most of all, his pale blue eyes continue to mesmerize him.
Had he met Blaine back in high school, he's still fall for him and share a passionate teenage romance. Truth is, ever since Chandler cheated on him, he believed he was going to be alone forever. But Blaine and his cane showed up and everything changed.
He was so immersed in his thoughts that he became startled when he heard knocking on his guest bedroom door.
"Lady Hummel, time for breakfast!" Santana yelled over.
Gaga, how does she scream so loud when it's 9am?
Simultaneously, he was eager to get out of bed. Because he desperately wanted to see him.
"Bl-Blaine, we have to work on the book. We only have 2 weeks—mmph!" Kurt's rambling was interrupted by a set of lips smashing themselves against his, followed by a tongue slipping into his mouth. Kurt was helpless against the tongue, and he succumbed to the kiss instantly.
They were seated in the study room and as it was just after lunchtime, Santana had left to run some errands in the streets below, giving Blaine the perfect opportunity to take advantage of their alone time. Courtesy of the comfy couch, he gathered him into his arms and recklessly threw his cane aside, passionately cupping the stunned man out of nowhere and crashing his fervent lips against his.
"You're mine," he growled, internally surprised at the confidence he harboured now. Kurt could only stare at his boyfriend with longing and eager eyes.
How could a blind man look so intelligent and sexy at the same time?
"Always," the assistant whispered, secretly loving his ruffled hair.
"Hey, Blaine?" He began. The author looked down with deep breaths, hands on his hips. "Everything okay?"
"Ye-yeah, I'm more than okay." He bit his lip naughtily, causing Kurt to almost blush. But he wasn't giving in.
"I know you, Blaine. Tell me what's wrong?"
Blaine sighed, removing his hands. "I-I'm scared..."
Kurt frowned, "Why?"
"We only have less than two weeks together before I have to submit the novel."
"Isn't that a good thing? We're finally finishing it!"
"But I don't want to lose you."
Kurt froze. Realization kicked in. Ohhhh.
"Sweetie," he placed a gentle hand over his pained face, heart aching at how he looked afraid. "Just because my work here to help you finish the book is done by then, doesn't mean I'm going to leave you."
Taking a deep breath, Blaine slumped into the leather couch and Kurt joined him, waiting for a reply.
"I don't know what I'd do without you, Kurt." He confessed, biting his lip when he felt his boyfriend's hand rest over his. "I was so lost and hurt before I met you. I was angry and miserable. I was a monster to practically everyone around me and I lost most of them. I ignored my Warbler pals, gained a terrible reputation and lost my brother who never bothers to call me as he lives in London now. I've tried to be better but I just didn't have someone to help me get there." He looked up and interlocked his fingers with Kurt's. "But then, you showed up."
The countertenor smiled slightly, memories of his first day at Blaine's beach house invading him.
"And you were so gentle and kind and you never treated me like a nasty, depressed man who's blind and miserable. You treated me so...so lovingly that we went camping together, we went out for lunch—something I never thought I'd do then—and it's all because you made me want to start living again. To stop feeling so afraid of leaving my house after months of hiding and you made me at least try to be better. But most of all, you made me develop these...these deep, genuine feelings for you."
"And that's why I'm scared that once we're done working together, you'd pack up and leave me—"
"I'm never saying goodbye to you," Kurt declared, shuffling closer. "Ever."
"I need you, Night Sky." His voice cracked, "I know it's only been two months but I can't move on with my life and get better if you're not by my side."
The assistant felt a pang in his heart, once again cherishing the nickname. "The past two months may not have been perfect but they're certainly the best months of my life so far. You made me fall for you on the first day and I've never stopped caring about you. Don't ever doubt that."
Blaine leaned his head gently against Kurt's, a tear trickling down his tan features. "Just please don't leave me. I don't want to go back to being lost again."
"You're not going to lose me," he whispered, soothingly running his hand up and down Blaine's arm.
"I'm sorry," he broke down. "I'm too afraid at the thought—"
"Shhh," he pulls him in for a sweet kiss. "Don't be, it's okay. I've got you," he gathered his boyfriend in his arms, hums out something wordless and presses his face into the crook of Blaine's neck, breathing in his cologne.
Blaine is his—Blaine is home.
"Wanna work on the book now?" He suggests after minutes of silently embracing each other in their arms.
Blaine lets out a choked laugh, "Yeah, let's get back to work."
Santana Lopez could only shake her head with disapproval as she watched Kurt fidget nervously beside the phone, Blaine standing beside him, his famous cane at hand as usual and looking suave as ever. Kurt had been wondering how he was going to come out and tell the truth to his family back home at Lima that he was dating someone new and not to mention, a blind yet famous author while working on the novel with him. Talk about being professional in the workplace...
"I told you you should've told your peeps about you and Blaine fucking each other a long time ago," the Latina crossed her arms, smirking a little when Blaine froze and Kurt gasped loudly.
"We haven'tdone that—" The countertenor defensively exclaimed before shutting his trap, realizing he was about to say yet. The last thing he wanted now was to push Blaine into doing something he probably wasn't even ready for yet. Not to mention, Kurt still was harbouring a deep secret within him that he'd been wanting to confess to his boyfriend for a while now.
Are we even going to have sex in the future at all? Because I don't think I'm ready yet...
Blaine, meanwhile, was thinking about the same thing, gripping forcefully on his cane to prevent him from falling over in shock.
Would Kurt even want to have sex with me at all? Since I'm blind and still fragile after everything that's happened—
His thoughts were interrupted when Santana stepped forward, "Just call your family and tell them everything. Thanksgiving's coming up soon so I'd imagine they want you to go back and visit and I know you, Hummel. You're a terrible liar."
"No I'm not!" he childishly cried out and she raised a dare-to-challenge-me eyebrow. He surrendered, picking up the phone and sighing.
"You should do it, Night Sky." Blaine slowly sat beside him on the couch, felt-reaching for his hand for support and kissing his cheek. If Kurt and I are ever moving forward together, there can't be secrets anymore.
That's when he realized.
I have to tell Kurt what happened that caused me to become blind. He deserves the truth.
Kurt, oblivious to Blaine's new mission, looked at him in awe, now more confident to call his dad and tell him what's been going on the past two months relationship-wise. He dialled the number he'd known by heart and soon, the phone rang, the man eager to hear his father's voice.
The ringing lingered and anxiety overcame him. But Blaine was there and he ran a gentle hand over his boyfriend's back, whispering loving and unintelligible remarks, firm and understanding.
"Hey, kiddo!" The masculine voice that reeked of gasoline and sweat came over the line and Kurt jumped. Guess it's time to face the music.
"Dad, hey!" He smiled, suddenly realizing how much he'd actually missed him. "Do you have time to talk now?"
Santana softly muttered that she'll make everyone a cup of hot chocolate and ensuring their privacy, she closed the door behind her, leaving Kurt alone with Blaine.
Blaine's throat closes when thoughts of how his relationship with the amazing man beside him has flourished for the past two months. He remembers, with fondness and warmth in his chest, how he'd begun falling for Kurt when he was just too gentle and kind with him, how he struggled to keep his deep feelings inside, how he finally managed to hold and feel Kurt's face for the first time and how they'd first kissed. Oh the feeling of want to just capture his boyfriend in a passionate and supportive kiss and to gather him in his protective arms, resting his sensitive forehead against his and their soft lips linked together until Kurt had to pull away for oxygen.
I have to tell him the truth if we will ever have a future together.
"There's something huge I've been meaning to tell you guys," Kurt's soothing voice filled his ears, his vision forever black as night. "I...I've been seeing...someone."
A pause.
"Kurt, you remember what happened with Chandler and how he cheated on you? I hope you're being extra careful here."
"I am! And I really think that he's the one, Dad." That made the blind man smile, tenderly taking Kurt's hand. "He's amazing, he's funny, he's handsome, he's kind...he—he's perfect."
"What's the lad's name?"
"Blaine Anderson—"
Burt's voice bellowed. "WHAT?! You're dating the famous author of those dreadful books you used to reread years ago? The Blaine Anderson?"
Kurt feels his jaw drop, gripping the phone tighter and secretly cherishing Blaine's hold on him as his only support. "Yeah," he breathed. "He's the one. The guy I told you back in September that I'm working with to help finish his next book."
Another pause.
"Wait, isn't he blind?"
He felt his heart stop. "Yeah, he is. But it doesn't matter. I really care about him and he really cares about me. We do keep it professional when we're working though—"
"Kurt, be honest with me. Are you with him just because you pity him or because you actually care about him in that way?"
A bit lip, "I really care about him, so yeah. Our relationship isn't some charity case."
"But isn't he the guy who has a reputation of being rude, cold and horrible to people around him? I don't want to see you get hurt again, son."
Those initial words came as a slap to his face and he realized that Blaine had heard them as well as he shivered away from him, a soft sigh escaping his lips. Kurt feels a tear well up as his lower lip trembles. Those were among the words he'd been so afraid to hear from his dad and to see Blaine so hurt again, he just couldn't take it.
"He's not that guy anymore," it comes out as a tear-thick declaration, unsteady yet confident, timid yet firm, and the moment Kurt said it, he knows it's the truth. "He's changed and I don't want to lose him. I did hesitate at first because of how heartbroken I was after Chandler's cheating but Blaine...he's special."
There's a dense pause, silence, then a heavy sigh. Burt sounds resigned when he replies and it's softer. "Do you love him?"
That question alarmed him and he turned to see Blaine, seated quite a distance away from him now, nervously fiddling with his fingers over his cane. He didn't hear Burt's question.
"We-we haven't gotten to that stage yet," Kurt muttered quietly. "But I-I think I do. I don't know, Dad."
Another sigh, "And you're prepared to take on responsibilities as this gets more serious? Like making a commitment to be there with and for him because he's blind."
"I'd do anything for him," the assistant smiles when Blaine perked up with an interested and grateful expression.
The speaker crackles a little, he could imagine his dad taking his baseball cap off to rub his head. "You're really like your mom. Always stubborn yet loving. She'd know exactly what to do here."
Kurt looks down, evaluating his words. "I really want you to meet him."
"I'm still hesitant about all this but from the way you sound so happy, I can tell you really like this Blaine guy. And Carole here's actually getting excited to hear you have a new boyfriend."
"So you'll meet him?"
"Thanksgiving weekend, I want you and this Blaine guy to come back here to Lima and we'll meet him."
Kurt almost squealed, "Blaine would love to meet you guys."
"Do I get to threaten him with a baseball bat if he'll ever hurt you? Or is that insensitive because he's already blind?"
That made Kurt laugh, "I highly recommend you don't. Besides, once you get to know him, you'll see he's dapper, charming and all."
"Alright, keep me posted. Promise you'll be safe?"
"Promise."
"Love you, son."
After hanging up, Blaine sat up, felt-reaching for Kurt's face and he breathed heavily. He was worried that his parents would discriminate him for his condition and his past reputation but he knew that everything was going to be okay. Kurt could only sigh into his embrace, both enjoying the much-needed silence for a few moments before he went to tell him his plans.
"I want to sleep with you...I mean, ya'know, in the same bed not um—"
"I know you what you mean," Kurt chuckled, Blaine's handsome features heating up in embarrassment. Honestly, he was thrown off by his words, knowing that while they've been serious for a month now, they never shared a bed. Until tonight. Kurt'd wanted to sleep in Blaine's arms but he always respected his space and he waited until he's comfortable enough. "Hang on, we'll walk together."
Blaine grinned in relief, journeying while hooking arms and came to a stop in front of his closed door. So this is where I'd be sleeping tonight. With Blaine, Kurt thought.
Upon entering it, Kurt turned on the light, loving the warm-cozy feeling here, the bed was nicely made, the city's night lights dimly shining behind the curtains.
"As you know, Santana always cleans the place and my bed is so comfortable."
"It looks like it," Kurt replied. "Why don't I go and get changed while you prepare yourself for bed?"
"Take your time, baby."
Fuck, this must be a dream!
After changing into his maroon PJ's back in his own bathroom, Kurt washed, moisturized and brushed his teeth before looking into the mirror and taking a deep breath. This is it, the next step in our relationship.
"Bet you look adorable in your pyjamas," Blaine faced up upon hearing his footsteps, now nestled safely on his giant bed in his own PJ's. Kurt could only giggle as he joined his boyfriend over the duvet.
"I have to confess that I actually don't wear anything when I sleep..." Blaine nervously whispered. "But don't worry, I've already put something on tonight."
That threw Kurt off. Blaine'd slept here. Naked.
Swallowing thickly, he shuffled closer and pulled him into a hug, resting his chin on Blaine's defined shoulder, sighing contentedly.
"I don't want you to feel ashamed around me," he encouraged. "Don't ever be afraid when I'm here, okay?"
Nodding, Blaine leaned forward with a fervent kiss, cupping his boyfriend's delicate face. "Never thought I'd fall for someone after everyone rejected me. Thank you, Kurt."
"I'm right here," he whispered. "I'm not giving up on you."
Gradually pressing his lips against Kurt's once more, caressing his cheeks. "I need to tell you about the night I became blind, Kurt." He breathed shakily. "As we're really getting serious, you deserve the truth."
"You sure?" His partner rested his forehead against his, inhaling deeply, their bond growing ever stronger.
"Tomorrow, I'll tell you." Blaine nudged his nose over his. "Now, I want to enjoy being here with my amazing boyfriend."
Agreeing, Kurt confessed. "There's something I need to tell you tomorrow too. It's about the rough times I had in high school and how it affected me. Not only mentally but physically."
Anger seeped through the blind man's veins. How could anyone hurt this compassionate angel? But what made Blaine wonder was what Kurt meant when he said physically. "Tomorrow," he confirmed. "We'll be completely honest with each other. Now let's just go to sleep, okay?"
They got under the duvet; Kurt turned off the lights and they faced each other, Kurt enchanted by Blaine's distant blue eyes and Blaine picturing Kurt's, his sensitive hands memorizing his boyfriend's facial features as they skimmed over his skin. Kurt felt Blaine's hand search for his and he grabbed it, melting into a puddle as Blaine raised it to kiss the back of his hand. The room's plunged into darkness now, Blaine's clock's ticking only audible.
"You ok?" Kurt asked.
"With you, I am."
A blush crept into his face. "Night, Blaine."
"Goodnight, Kurt."
Kurt closed his eyes and once Blaine was confident he was sleeping, he kissed his forehead and dared to whisper: "I love you, Night Sky."
A/N: Let me know what you think! Btw, Blaine finally said the L-word! Thanksgiving in Ohio, revealing their secrets and a Klaine-endangering enemy (Uh-oh.) are coming up! Sorry for updating so late again :)
