"I twisted my ankle and you're the only one here strong enough to carry me to the nurse's office but we're both really awkward" au
Okay, so maybe it wasn't the greatest idea to hit snooze on the alarm today, considering that Karma had already gotten four tardies and the fact that five meant detention in Mr. Howard's class, but she was exhausted from cramming for said teacher's exam, and c'mon, could five extra minutes really matter?
Apparently, it did because the next thing she knew she had: a) nearly gotten hit by a car on her bike ride to school, b) realized she had forgotten her lunch at home, c) realized she left her binder at home, and d) tripped on a crack in the sidewalk, therefore twisting her ankle.
"Crap," Karma muttered while clutching her ankle with her eyes shut from the pain. Frantically, she ignored the throbbing and tried to get up but failed. Her ankle was screwed. Any weight she put on it would make it collapse. This was not good. She had two minutes to get to class on the other side of the campus. That would've been a feat on a regular day, but with her foot like this, there was no fucking way.
Wait. A twisted ankle could count as a medical excuse! Too bad she couldn't even get to the nurse's. Perhaps if she crawled...
"Are you okay?" A beautiful blonde girl stared at her distressed state. The girl looked reluctant but concerned enough to ask.
"Yep! I'm great!" Karma assured her. "I'm doing A-okay!"
"Sure you are," the blonde said while extending a hand. Karma stared at the hand.
"No, really, I'm fine!"
"If you were so fine, why are you laying on the ground?" the girl questioned.
"Why aren't you? My mom says connecting with nature should be a regular habit of everyone. Of course, she is a bit of a hippie..."
"Jesus, I saw you fall. Now just grab onto me and tell me where the hell the nurse's office is."
Karma accepted the blonde's aid finally. She tried limping now, but her ankle collapsed like wet tissue paper. The blonde sighed. "I'm going to carry you, alright?"
"Carry me? That is so unnecessary. I'm absolutely FIIIINE!" The blonde swiftly carried Karma bridal style.
"You're not fine and this is absolutely necessary. Now where the fuck is the nurse?"
"The nurse's is to the left of the office building." Karma directed with her hand. "Do you know where that is?"
"Yeah."
"Am I heavy?"
"Yes." The blonde grunted.
"Rude." Karma pinched her, causing the girl to glare at her. The blonde silently went through the halls of the school, now empty due to classes in session.
"So... Did you just transfer to Hester?" Karma knew almost everyone on campus. Despite her efforts and her red hair, she remained unknown to the actual populars.
"No, I've been here since the beginning of the year," the stranger answered vaguely. "I blend in pretty well I guess."
"Same! I hate it though. I want to be noticed sometimes, you know?"
The blonde did not reply. They stayed silent for what felt like eternity.
The other girl spoke again. "I don't understand why people want to be noticed. It just causes more trouble."
"I guess it does," Karma said. "But it feels good for that moment."
"Everything feels good in that moment," the blonde replied.
"This is the nurse's." The blonde used her foot to kick open the door.
"Again Karma?" The nurse and her were good buddies now from her frequent visits.
"Yeah. Twisted my ankle."
"Third time. You're setting a record, Ashcroft." The blonde raised an eyebrow at her. "Just put ice on it. Oh, that is nasty. Looks like you're growing another ankle from how swollen it is. No wonder you couldn't walk. Here, this is the note for your teacher. You too." She whipped out the official slips. "What's your name, sweetheart?"
"Amy Raudenfeld." The nurse quickly scribbled out a note for the blonde.
Amy took the tardy slip and almost walked out of the door before she turned her head to look at the redhead. "See you later... Karma."
