After two years since the last update (lmao oops), here's the grand finale. We've come a long way but my writing's still pretty terrible.
"Okay now, why don't we just reset all the meddling you've done and maybe my dad won't pull some tsunami threats on your pink, fluffy palace?" Percy brushes the dust off his ripped t-shirt after getting thrown across the carpet by the birds, which are busily preening each other.
"Percy, it's been ages!" Aphrodite turns from feeding her caged doves. "Unfortunately, it seems as though your dad is very occupied at the moment and won't be collapsing palaces any time soon."
Her smile wrenches Percy's stomach, twisting it with dread.
"What?"
"Your dad, dear," Aphrodite leans close to Percy and whispers. "Is busy wooing a certain mortal."
"Okay yeah, I don't really care. He's been doing that for, I dunno, eons before I was born," Percy bites back. Maybe he did feel a little uncomfortable with the idea, but hey, they were gods. What's there to stop them from deriving pleasure and joy from temporary beings? He might never understand their thinking, but there's no use to try to refuse the state of things as they were. He just thought that, maybe, his dad would have the decency to staunch his sexual desires or urges or whatever, until he died and didn't have to witness them. But hey, maybe a sibling wouldn't be that bad.
"Your facial expressions say so otherwise, tough cookie."
"Why are you doing this?"
"For fun. Everyone thinks love is just wishy-washy thing, but well here we are. It's fun to see how it messes people up, right?"
"Nobody thinks it's a wishy-washy thing. What's with you and this…inferiority complex?" Percy scoffs.
Annabeth grabs his arm, trying to stop the words from coming out before it's too late. At this rate, they're either going to be cursed with some sort of love spell, or be tangled up in this mess forever.
"Please, just, stop this," Annabeth pleads.
Percy turns back with surprise. It wasn't very Annabeth to beg for mercy without even trying to reason or negotiate. Then again, it wasn't very Aphrodite to be so mean and cruel and relentless, was it? Or maybe it was, as Percy recalls the whole Myrrha story. Poor girl cursed to lust after her own dad. He shudders.
"We haven't done anything wrong, please." He figures that Annabeth was probably doing this the right way. After all, they can't take on a deity in combat, nor can they really outsmart her into undoing the spell. They've got nothing to blackmail her, nothing to bargain for—
"You've done everything wrong, Percy."
"What?"
"Do you know how many of my children are hopelessly infatuated with you? And you never spared them more than a half-hearted glance, nor a full conversation. It was always Annabeth, Annabeth, Annabeth. What a heartbreaker."
Is Aphrodite jealous on behalf of her kids?
"What does this have to do with punishing Clarisse and Nico, and all the others then?"
"Let's just say that my children have other unrequited loves too."
Percy wants to balk at the pettiness of this whole situation. What kind of power abuse is this? This is totally unfair and ridiculous.
"Well, it's not like this is solving anything though, right? I'm sure there's a better solution to this than messing with everyone's head," Percy tries again. He's getting tired of this real quick, but it's hopelessly frustrating to know that there's nothing that could be done apart from talking the goddess out of her games.
"Probably," Aphrodite agrees. "But nothing within my ability, right?"
"You could…make them get over their unrequited crush?"
It seems legitimate, and completely reasonable.
"What's the fun in that? That's cheating the game of love!" Aphrodite protests.
"And this isn't?"
Percy stomps his feet. He wants to pounce on the stupid goddess and rip her hair out. Annabeth shushes him, stepping forward to face the very much amused deity.
"Why don't we make a deal?" she proposes, hands tightening to a fist.
"What is it, my favorite daughter of Athena?" Aphrodite spits.
"You get to erase Percy's feelings for anyone for a day, and whoever wins his heart gets to keep it. If I win, you stop playing us."
"What, no. I'm not agreeing to that, Wise Girl," Percy forces Annabeth to turn towards him with a hand on her shoulder. "I don't want to be manipulated like that. Not cool."
"I'll win. I'll restore things back to normal, trust me."
Percy holds his tongue. Annabeth's got that look on her face, the one which she only puts up when she's a hundred percent resolute on her idea. No point in arguing.
"Ugh, fine."
"That sounds a little too easy for me, don't you think?" Aphrodite chuckles. "But sure, I won't pass up an easy win."
She waves her hand and the birds go pick the two demigods up roughly.
Annabeth brings a confused Percy to a waffle shop. She orders blue waffles and blue pancakes, knowing that there's nothing the boy likes better as comfort food. This is stupid; she's Percy's goddamn girlfriend, who would know better about wooing him than herself?
She treats him to a trip to the amusement park, an action-packed movie that Percy uncontrollably squeals at, and a stroll along the beach.
"Annabeth, why are you being so nice to me today?"
"What do you mean? I'm always this nice, Seaweed Brain."
Percy blushes and hugs her. Score.
"I love you," he says quietly.
Annabeth laughs. "I know, silly."
She raises a middle finger at the skies, where she perceived Aphrodite to be floating about.
"Just so you know, you didn't win," Annabeth reads the letter she got aloud, while Percy wraps his arms around her waist. "My children found better guys than your sorry excuse of a boyfriend. So there you have it, you lucky brats."
"Man, she's so petty I can't believe it," Percy mumbles against his girlfriend's back, eyes closed and enjoying the sea breeze ruffling his hair.
"Stop, that tickles."
"What, me speaking against your back?"
"Percy!"
Nico and Clarisse can't look at each properly now, and neither can Rachel and Chris meet Annabeth and Percy's eyes for a long time. But gradually, everyone divert the embarrassment and frustration to Aphrodite, blaming the goddess for the chaos caused. Make up confessions ensue left and right, and slowly, Camp Half-Blood recovers from the largest love chaos that it has yet suffered from. Aphrodite may have also gotten nasty glares from pretty much all the gods and goddesses whose children have been toyed with. But it's all over now and Annabeth feels safe in Percy's arms once again. She misses it.
It's been a long ride and I hope you enjoyed it even though it started pretty crappily haha. Thanks for bearing with me and I'm out! Probably will be using my ao3 account more too now :OO
