The breaking of truth brought tears to my tired eyes once again. I was amazed to see that mansion, so untouched and angelic, standing right before me. My brother and I walked along the cobblestone path that led to a large door. It looked like it was made out of pure gold.
"Would you like to see the house you were born in?" Kaname's hand never left me as his other twisted the knob to enter my proud heritage. I was utterly excited, but nervous too. Would it be everything that I had dreamed it to be?
"Why would I not?" I replied, a rising anticipation burning inside me.
Instantly, a variety of familiar scents engulfed me. The smell of strong perfume and burning candles, clean leather furniture, the remainders of old clothing in drawers, Yuki's scent and something else I couldn't identify. This residence was absolutely beautiful, much more so than the dusty place Zero had taken me to. For some reason being with Kaname made me feel happier, stronger, able to think more clearly, like all the pain had been drained.
"Wow." I breathed in awe. I was speechless. The amount of open space was divine, much like a Tsars palace back in the times of The Russian Revolution. Floors sparkled like crystal, window glass transparent but the deep colour of sapphire, almost everything studded with some kind of precious stone. Each room had it's own distinct fragrance and memory, ones that didn't clutter me with confusion. The pictures in my head were finally clear.
"It is magnificent, isn't it? Fit for royalty. You can almost hear mothers chiming laugh, Yuki's footsteps stomping up the stairs in fury, even the cries of you when you were but a child. I can hear it all vividly, like it is all still here. Can you?" Kaname spoke poetically as he always did, his soft voice echoing throughout the vast halls filled with many realistic paintings of my ancestors before me. I wondered what they were like, how they talked, what they wore, what kind of things they enjoyed. I hoped to find a history book of my family someday, to absorb every single answer that I have been pining for for so long now.
"I'm trying to. I see their faces, but I cannot hear them." I saw mothers long curly locks, her bright chocolate eyes, I saw Yuki's pouting lips and her hair in high pigtails, liquid anger streaming down her red cheeks. Haruka's hair was the same chestnut colour, his eyes sparkling just as much as Juri. They were so happy...How could I recall all of this only being a few years old?
"I cast a spell so your memories would not inflict pain upon you, so your full memory loss shall be restored painlessly in a matter of hours." Kaname said with clear confidence that things were going to work out. I wondered why he seemed so confident, I mean at Cross Academy he seemed so lifeless and sympathetic towards me. I wonder what changed him.
"Thank you." I said with gratitude. Regardless, I was grateful for what Kaname has done. Bringing me back to my home and warning me of the true enemy, I owed him so much for the support.
We passed quite a few rooms, ones that mainly consisted of a luxurious king-sized bed, a wardrobe full of designer brand clothing, a bookshelf, and another area for historical artefacts. Like every room, it was open and shone like polished stone.
Eventually my brother led me to a room at the very end of the house, a room that was strangely unknown to me, giving me a bad vibe. What was behind that rusted door?
"Here, Val, is where Rido Kuran sleeps peacefully. Do not be afraid. No harm will come to any of us." His words comforted me, yet I still felt a stabbing dart of fear as he opened the door with steady fingers. I could feel the heart beat of that creature in the dimly lit room. A massive black shape lay in the centre, the rest of the area covered in spider webs and dust particles. It was so different to the rest of the mansion, a forbidden place that did not belong.
Reaching the middle, I gasped with realisation. It was a coffin. Why was is lying here, dead and abandoned with a body inside it to rot to ashes?
"I don't understand." I muttered in bewilderment. My fragile fingers slid along the edge of the death bed, my nails drawing a shape atop the build up of spotted dust.
"Pureblood vampires are immortal, therefore we live eternally. For some, life becomes meaningless, so they see a deep slumber as an alternative." He explained, gripping the edge of the cracked wood and trying to flip it open with his strength. It wouldn't bulge.
"But what has that got to do with Rido's betrayal?" I asked. It wouldn't make sense for Rido to just go on a family killing spree without a good reason.
"He was most definitely bored of his repetitive life, and decided to consume power by drinking the blood of Kuran relatives. As you know, our blood have many, many secret wonders. Rido sought out whatever power he could possess, using that to his advantage, creating his own vampire army and continuing his quest as king."
Wow, this was a lot to take in. Then, where did Yuki come in all this? Was Rido controlling her, or what it her own free will to fulfil his wishes? What could she gain? Questions rose in me again, so many questions...
"Yuki, on the other hand, handed herself over to him and pledged her allegiance to Rido, in return for his acceptance and shared power as sovereign. I presume since she did not receive the attention she could have from mother and father, she thought Rido was her last chance to be loved."
It made me sad, really. Putting myself in her shoes made me want to cry and cry without stopping. But still, she took Zero from me out of pity for herself.
"Things haven't worked out well though, have they?" I said, realising that I had been staring into his ruby irises.
"Not as much as I would have liked, Val."
"How are Rido and Yuki still in contact with each other if Rido is hidden away in here?"
"Telepathy. Rido may be asleep, but his sub-conscious still exists. He can communicate with her and likewise, Yuki can too."
I kept having a really bad gut feeling being here. The vibe was dark.
"Can he ever...Awaken?" I was scared to ask.
"Only if he was to be given the blood of Kuran." Kaname replied, his hands still on the coffin. Ok, why was he trying to open it? Won't doing so put us all in jeopardy?
With a loud clash, it flung open. Rido's body lay bathed in blood, his hair long and tangled, his eyes sealed shut. Fear shot through me like a bullet to the head. I was frightened of this figure, and I was surprised I mean, he's my family. But I couldn't shake the feeling.
The sharp sound of metal rang in my ears. Kaname pulled out a long sword, holding it with an iron grip at its hilt, stabbing it drastically into the enemy's flesh, slashing his arm in the process deliberately. He hovering it over the wound of Rido so it would drip out with great effectiveness.
What was Kaname doing!?
"This needs to be done." He almost sang the words with joy, and I suddenly did not feel safe at all.
In a matter of a few dramatic minutes, red and blue snapped open.
