IN THE SUMMERTIME

By: Vanessa Sgroi

The dog days of Summer. The air was thick and tropically moist. The unrelenting heat left both the Winchesters lethargic and enervated. And it made Dean particularly irritable. Their clunker of an air conditioner in the motel room had long ago given up the ghost.

"I'm hot," Dean moaned. "And I don't mean the good hot."

"Yeah, Dean, I know. You've told me a million times already," grumbled Sam.

"It bears repeating."

"No, it doesn't. I'm just as hot as you, you know. But you don't hear me announcing it every five minutes."

"Grouchy much?"

Sam sent a glare in Dean's direction. "I am NOT grouchy. I'm just sick of hearing you complain!"

"Well, excuse the hell out of me for being hot."

Sam sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. Taking a deep breath, he said, "Okay, truce. You're hot, I'm hot. If there's anyone else unfortunate enough to be stuck in this hotel, they're probably hot too. So let's do something about it."

"I already tried to fix the air conditioner."

"I meant something like—let's go get ice cream."

"A sundae! The biggest, most enormous sundae I can find."
