Although it hurt, Kristoff kept running. If Sven was here, alive and okay, he had to see him. He must be so scared without him... After asking where the inn and stables were located, Kristoff managed to find them and ran inside, searching for his beloved friend.
"Sven? Sven! Are you here, buddy? It's me, it's Kristoff! Where are you?" he called out for the reindeer.
Outside, Sven was taking a drink with Eugene, who had been feeding him carrots since he woke up. Suddenly, Sven heard something, his ears twitching as he snorted, his body becoming more stiff and alert as he perked up his ears and heard something he hadn't expected to hear, although it was faded by the distance.
"Sven! Sven, where are you?"
Sven grunted with excitement and bounced on his hooves, tapping the ground anxiously as he heard the voice ring out again. Eugene turned to him ad raised an eyebrow.
"What, what is it, Sven?" he asked as Sven gave a series of excited grunts.
I think it's Kristoff! It sounds like him! It has to be him! Sven wanted to say, but only spoke in huffs and grunts.
"What, what is it?" Eugene asked cluelessly as Sven heard the voice again, turning back towards the sound.
"Sven! Where are you?"
Sven gave a loud, determined grunt and took off running. Eugene turned back around as Sven took off and ran after him.
"Wait, Sven! Come back here! Where are you going?" he called, chasing after the reindeer, who had completely left him in the dust.
Kristoff circled around the inn and the stables, calling for Sven, but there was no answer.
I can't give up... he'd never give up on me. He thought as he hollered for Sven again.
"SVEN! Where are you?" he called. Suddenly, he heard something that sounded like hoofbeats behind him. Kristoff could hardly breathe. He turned his head first, followed by his body as he turned around to see his beloved reindeer, fidgeting anxiously as he huffed and puffed, staring directly at Kristoff. The reindeer soon gave a happy grunt as he realized what he was seeing. It was Kristoff! He was alive! Sven reared back and grunted happily and rushed towards Kristoff, who opened his arms, a wide grin spread across his face.
"SVEN!" he yelled happily as the reindeer pounced on him, tackling him to the ground. Kristoff was so happy he hardly even noticed the pain that shot through his body. He smiled from ear to ear, giggling like a child as his best friend, his brother, showered him with some of the nastiest, sloppiest, drooliest reindeer kisses in the world, drenching his face.
"Aww, Sven! Oh, good boy, good boy." Kristoff gushed at the reindeer, hugging him around the neck and kissing his snout, "Aw I love you so much, buddy boy. I love you, Sven. Oh good boy, good boy."
Sven stopped licking Kristoff's face and continued lying on top of him, smiling goofily as he looked down at Kristoff, thankful he had finally found his best friend. Kristoff didn't even have to speak for him to know what he was saying, he knew because he was thinking the same thing.
Eugene caught up with Sven just in time for him to tackle someone. Eugene had stopped to catch his breath as he heard Sven tackle someone to the ground. He quickly rushed over to see the enormous reindeer lying on top of a man. A man with blond hair.
Eugene got a look at the man and then took out the picture of Kristoff he'd been given. He remembered what he had been told he looked like.
About my height, blond hair, brown eyes... he thought and looked back down.
There was no way.
It wasn't until he heard the way the man spoke to Sven that he knew. Eugene gasped and smiled, looking down at the both of them.
"Kristoff? Kristoff Bjorgman?" he called over to Kristoff, who stopped playing with Sven and looked over at him.
"Yes?" Kristoff asked. Eugene smirked.
"I'm Prince Eugene Fitzherbert from Corona and man, am I sure glad to see you."
The previous night, Eugene had sent a letter to Arendelle, explaining that he had found Sven, but Kristoff had been thrown into the water. Eugene had presumed him dead, but he didn't dare put that in the letter.
The letter arrived late afternoon in Arendelle and was given to Elsa, who opened it and gasped, her hand covering her lips as she dropped the letter. As the letter flew towards the floor, Elsa stood, shell shocked. She was glad Sven had been found, but Kristoff...
Eugene had said that Kristoff hadn't been found, but Elsa had a bad feeling...
She felt he was dead.
She couldn't tell Anna. Her poor sister was enough of a wreck as it was. She had to hide the letter...
Or get rid of it. Somehow.
Without thinking, Elsa snatched up the letter, running up the stairs to her office as Henrik walked out of his room, his eyes following her with concern as she disappeared down the hall.
"Queen Elsa?" he called as Elsa slammed the door to her study. Elsa quickly locked the door and went over to the fireplace, striking a match before getting down on her knees in front of the fireplace. In one hand, she held the letter, the other a lit match. Taking a deep breath, Elsa set fire to a corner of the letter, the whole paper eventually catching fire as she dropped it into the ashes, watching as the corners of the paper wrinkled and turned brown, the wax seal melting away. As she watched the letter burn, she heard a knock at the door and gasped quietly, looking over at the door.
"Queen Elsa? Are you in there? Is everything okay?" Henrik called through the door.
Damn. Elsa thought as she grabbed the fire poker and smothered the rest of the flames with ashes before getting up, dusting off her dress and straightening herself up.
"Coming." she called back as she crossed over and unlocked the door, opening it a crack. Henrik gazed inside, his eyes full of concern.
"Are you all right? I saw you run by like something was wrong. Is everything okay?"
Elsa's eyes wandered. Should she tell him the truth?
"No... nothing's wrong. Everything's fine. I'm okay." she lied, knowing that she hadn't lied very well. Henrik tilted her head slightly so that she looked at him.
"Are you sure?" he asked, appearing genuinely concerned as his green eyes pierced through her icy blue. Elsa bit her lip and finally wrapped her arms around the man, hugging him.
"Henrik... it's Kristoff..." she cried as tear began to fall from her eyes, freezing on her cheeks.
"The ice boy? The one that's been missing?" Henrik asked. Elsa nodded. "What? What's happened to him?"
"I think... I... think..."
"Elsa, what's wrong?"
Elsa took a deep breath, trying to collect herself, but it was no use.
"I think he might be dead..." she sobbed, burying her face into Henrik's shoulder. She felt him rub her back gently, hugging her back.
"Oh Elsa... I'm so sorry..." she heard him say, "How?"
Elsa sniffed. "Apparently... it was your brother that took him..." she said, "They were on a ship going... somewhere... I don't know... but apparently... Kristoff got... thrown in..."
Henrik hugged her close to him, realizing what had happened.
"Oh... what about the reindeer?"
"Sven? He's okay... he's just... sad is all. It was our cousin, Rapunzel's husband that found them. Or... Sven at least... he said he only found Kristoff's hat in Corona so... apparently your brother tried to hide there..."
"Are you sure it was Hans? I mean, we made to where he couldn't leave the kingdom-"
"Well, he must have figured out a way, Henrik because he took one of my very good friends and his reindeer and took them all over the place before he-" Elsa fired back.
"Okay... I'm sorry." Henrik said.
"It's okay... he must have done it right after you left."
"I suppose so. I'll get a letter to my brothers even though I'm sure they already know." Henrik promised.
"Henrik... we can't tell Anna." Elsa said.
"...why not?"
Elsa looked at him, wiping her tears. "What do you mean 'why not'? Have you seen her? She's a wreck! If we tell her that Kristoff might be dead what do you think she'd do?"
She would cut off my manhood and then my head. Henrik thought, remembering the night Anna had threatened him with the pick axe.
"She would freak out." he answered.
"Exactly. If there's just the slightest chance that he may be alive, I have to take it. I can't handle telling her that... I just can't do it..."
"And you don't have to..."
Outside the study's door, her ear pressed against the wood, Anna had heard nearly every word.
