Chapter 46: We're Going On A Witch Hunt
Hayley nervously paced the corridor chewing her lip. Things were not good. She knew that Klaus would be relentless on taking his revenge against Rebekah and Elijah would stop at nothing to protect her but right now there wasn't anything she could do about that. She had her own issues at hand. As much as she was concerned about Elijah she couldn't let her feelings get in the way. This was bigger that her. She had a duty to the wolves and she was going to fulfil it. She couldn't let them down.
Eve had contacted her back and the plan had been set. She was going after Celeste. There was no other way. Elijah would never let her out of his sight. Eve had told her it had to be this ways, that if she told Elijah her plans he'd keep her away from Celeste and she knew that Celeste was the only person who could break the curse. As much as Hayley wanted to believe that Elijah would not stop her from freeing her people she still saw some truth in Eve's words. What if he did stop her? What if he wanted her to stay? She recalled their heated conversation in the cabin at camp and winced. That also made her afraid. If the curse were to be broken, what next? What was she meant to do? She couldn't just abandon them. Hayley brushed her hair back and tensed. Eve had told her she's always have a home in the bayou with her people, her family but then what of Elijah, what of her baby girl? Didn't she belong in The Mikaelson household Hayley thought hard and then found herself thinking of Klaus. She shivered on imagining him chasing after Rebekah, Rebekah who is his own flesh and blood. If that didn't stop him, what's to say he wouldn't turn on their daughter one day? Hayley winced on thinking of such terrible scenarios but wasn't she right. What could stop him? Who could stop him? Could anyone?
"No." She spoke out loud coming back to her questions about where her baby belonged. "She belongs with me." She spoke firmly and looked down at her bump placing her hand over it protectively. "You belong with me." She spoke softly and soothed it as she so often did. Hayley suddenly felt a soft kick and gasped gently. She smiled brightly. "That's it baby girl, you belong with me." She cooed gently.
Suddenly her phone buzzed and Hayley swiped open the message. This was it. She stood up and checked the time.
This is all or nothing. Hayley had told herself. She had to do this. She had to for the good of the pack, the curse had to be broken. What was to happen next would just follow, she told herself. She thought of Jackson and her stomach wheezed. I can't marry him. The words popped into her mind. How can I? How can I even think of it. Hayley took a deep breath and brushed the thought aside.
She rubbed her belly once again.
"We're going on a witch hunt." She spoke and grabbed some car key and left the house striding towards the car.
On her way she left Eve a text.
Hayley then ducked into the driver's seat, fired up the engine and began to drive.
Hayley hands squeezed around the steering wheel and she cautiously observed the road. The last thing she wanted was to bump into Elijah. On nearing the destination she then eased off the accelerator and parked up in a hidden spot a little away from the sanitarium itself. Hayley peered into the dark and felt a rustle in the leaves.
She turned back towards the trunk and pulled out a shovel, handling it easily despite its weight. She then moved back to the front of the car only to hear the rustle once again. This time Hayley stopped and neared the noise, scanning the area.
She neared a little more and the leaves broke way to reveal a snout and Hayley's heart pattered. She recognised him immediately. It was Jackson.
Hayley felt a small knot grow within her stomach but remained calm. Eve must have sent him to keep watch of her, either that or he came himself. She didn't know which was worse. Elijah didn't know about Jackson, but did Jackson know about Elijah, she wondered.
Hayley inclined her head to explain she was about to make a move and the wolf growl in acceptance.
Hayley held the shovel tightly in her hand and began to walk towards the sanatarium and soon reached it. She noticed a car already parked and realised Elijah must still be around. Hayley stood watch and waited until she saw the glimpse of a figure appearing from the top of the steps.
"Gotcha." She whispered and came out of the shadows.
Hayley quickened her pace and darted behind Celeste raising the shovel slightly. She angled the weapon well and swiftly executed her hit. Celeste fell to the floor with a thump.
Hayley took a breath and licked her lip.
"Hey there witch bitch." She slurred slightly and her teeth grit.
"You and I are going to have a little chat." She spoke with a sinister tone.
Celeste writhed on the floor, just about rolling onto her lap. She squinted in a daze and tasted the cut of her blood red lip. Celeste groaned managing to catch sight of her attacker. She wheezed.
"Hayley fucking Marshall." She managed to spit with great difficulty and Hayley caught glimpse of a slight smile.
"Oh I see why he likes you." She managed to murmurs before falling unconscious.
Hayley rolled her eyes and skilfully grabbed Celeste dragging her to the nearby vehicle and shoved her onto the back seat. She then grabbed the roped and tied back her hands.
"Time to take you to camp bayou." She spoke with slight amusement and slipped back into the driver's seat.
The car came to life and Hayley steered out into the road heading towards home and this wasn't the compound.
Elijah returned to the compound with a writhing Klaus. Papa Tunde's blade had worked in disabling him and he watched his little brother with a grave and conflicted expression. It had to be done. He told himself. There was no other way. Elijah's stomach clenched. He left the room in dire need for her. Only her.
"Hayley!" he called. But there was no answer.
Elijah listened carefully and then called once again.
There was still no answer.
His heart lurched.
"No." He breathed running down the stairs.
"No No No." He scanned the rooms then noticed the absent car key.
Elijah cursed internally.
I should have known! I should have known! He cursed himself repeatedly.
"Celeste." She's gone after Celeste.
Elijah looked at the front door desperately wanting to rush out and find her this very second. A ball of anger being spinning inside him.
Why Hayley why! He thought angrily.
He felt the urge to grab her wrists and make her see sense.
Does she have no idea? He hissed inside.
Does she really have no clue, of what her safety means to me? He grit his teeth in desperation but looked towards the top of the stairs.
He could not leave Klaus.
The risk of him escaping is too great. Elijah calculated. If Klaus were to escape, Rebekah would be done for.
Elijah clambered up the stairs torn and hurt. He opened the door to his room and peeled of his jacket, wiping the sweat from his forehead. He reached the cabinet and poured himself a drink downing it whole when he noticed a piece of paper upon his desk.
He grabbed it and read.
I'm not alone. I had to Elijah. Just like you had to protect Rebekah.
Elijah growled.
What does she mean, she isn't alone. He thought and then it hit him.
The wolves.
Elijah gulped this was the second time she had left and the pain of it was still as raw as the first.
She won't leave. He told himself. Not for good. He thought.
He rolled onto the bed and laid flat on his back loosening his tie.
He could smell her scent in the room, his room. Our room... he thought for that is what it had become.
Elijah closed his eyes. He knew why she had done what she had done but it hurt like hell.
He shook his head and swallowed.
"She'll be back in the morning." He spoke to himself reassuringly.
