Hello everyone! This is my first story in the Batman fandom so constructive criticism is welcomed. Please read and enjoy.

Chapter One: An Unexpected Alliance

The soft clatter of rain could be heard as tiny drops of water made impact with the stony surface of a gargoyle. Standing motionless upon the monstrous statue was the narrow eyed figure of a teenage vigilante. His gaze surveyed the grounds bellow like a hawk whilst his mind raced through possible strategies. Soon, he knew, he was going to face a dangerous foe and, deny it as his ego may, backup was a necessity.

A necessity, it seemed, that he did not have the luxury of. Batman and Robin were both in Metropolis, helping Superman on a case that (rare as it was in the City of Light) required the power of the mind over that of the fist. Nightwing was dealing with the mystery that was undercover life as a military spy and the Teen Titans were, for the immediate time, of no use half a world away. All his other allies were out of Gotham, dealing with supernatural phenomena overseas.

A smile made its way to Red Robin's otherwise sullen features. Supernatural. For all the teen had seen in his night-time job, he had never considered a term so illogical to be justifiable. The supernatural, after all, was science not yet fully understood.

Realizing he had lost focus on his initial aim he reached for his com-link, his hand quivering for a moment in hesitation. The hero heaved a sigh, his breath forming a mist in the cold night air. As high a regard the boy held Batman in, the Dark Knight was no longer in a position to affect his decision making regarding the black sheep of their family.

"What do you want, Replacement?" Tim flinched at the harsh tone of the voice, but managed to recover quickly. Jason had had a heated fight with Bruce two weeks prior and was therefore once again on less friendly terms with the 'family'.

"Hood, I need your help." He tried to sound casual, unconcerned. To reveal how desperate for support he was would show weakness.

"What for?" Red Robin withheld the urge to smile. Jason's tone, he was quick to notice, had gained an air of concern the moment Tim had expressed his need for help.

"It's a case I've been working on for some time now. Some new villain who goes by the name 'Ender'. His motif is as of yet unclear, but there's rumour going around that he has some… influential sponsors." There was no need for Tim to explain any further. The Red Hood had no doubt already deduced that the new villain had been financially provided for by corrupt political leaders. With such benefactors, any number of destructive systems could be at use.

"Send me your coordinates. I'll be there in five." With that, Jason cut the line.

A cool breeze brushed Tim's face with tender fingers, energising him for the mission to come. Somehow, he knew, he wasn't going to regret this unexpected alliance.

Sorry for the short chapter. I'm still quite unsure about publishing this so please review to let me know if you want this story continued.
