"You believe me?" she utter and inhaled breath. "You actually said you believe me."

"I've haven't witnessed it myself," he began. "But her father has told me that she can be a bit overly exaggerated sometimes."

Bella looked away. "Yet, you still took her side?"

"I'm sorry, I just reacted. But, come on, Bella, she's a member of my tribe. She needed my protection from the possibility of—"

"Me eating her alive," Bella finished.

Jacob pressed his lips and sighed. "Can you blame me for worrying?"

"Do you want me to leave?"

He thought for a moment, all the conflicting emotions raging inside him.

"Okay, well I'm going to go hunt that bear now. You think about it and let me know," Bella muttered.

She rushed away from him but soon before found herself pinned against a tree.

"You were always so impatient," he sighed.

"I'm not impatient," she countered. "It just seemed that you needed some time and space. And was trying to give you both."

She slipped under his hold and flashed aways but was caught again.

"Getting slow there, Bella," he teased.

She arched a challenging brow. "Fine, wolf man, let's go."

"You want to race me?" he laughed. "Ha. You'll lose."

"Well let's find out."

She slipped from him again and ran as fast as she could muster through the forest. He was fast in his human form but not enough. And she laughed as she made tread way over the other side of the hill.

As she felt the familiar ground of the forest under her feet she could also feel the rumble of the forest floor. She knew that he wasn't far behind and it excited her. This was a different type of chase and exhilarated her with joy.

"Who's the slow one now?" she hollered.

She heard the splash of water up ahead and realized she was coming upon a small canyon where a river flowed. She leaped but before she landed a large dark brown wolf landed and turned with an arrogant smirk on its face.

It all happened so quick that Bella actually tripped upon her landing and smashed right into the wolf, face first.

"Oof," she uttered when her body came to a full stop.

Jake transformed back into his human form and laughed.

"I win," he grinned. "Can't wait to claim my prize."

Bella rolled her eyes and stuck out her tongue at him. He laughed some more. And as he thought about, he hadn't laughed this way in several years. It was just too funny to see Bella disheveled like a frustrated cat that had fallen into water.

"How the hell did you get so quick?" Bella muttered as she began to pus herself up from the floor.

Jacob was no wear in site and she figured that he was changing

"I've grown faster and stronger with time," he noted as he came out from behind a tree, slipping his shirt back on. "Sometimes I don't even have to shift. I can pretty much race in my human form as quick as any vampire."

She stood up and noticed that the dress shirt she was wearing was quite muddy and torn, showing a good chunk of her thigh.

"I guess I will need to get you another one," she noted.

He nodded, "Don't try to distract me. I just won you fair and square. So tell me what did I win?"

She actually smiled. "What would you like?" she challenged.

He thought about it for a moment, but his mind kept coming blank or to be more precise his mind was coming up with something that he didn't want to want.

"Waiting, Jake," she said. "What do you want me to give you?"

He hadn't realize it but he gravitated towards her. "Whatever you're willing to give?" he whispered not sure what he was asking.

That's when they heard the cracking of twigs in in the forest. Their eyes shifted towards the sound. It was a bear. They both knew it.

She didn't even think, all she did was act. She ghosted to a tree and watched the animal below in a creek drinking water. Her eyes had an eery glow to them as she stalked her dinner.

Bella soon crouched and a small growl rumbled in her chest before she launched herself into a full attack.

Jacob watched, unable to tear away as the bear desperately tried to claw her off it's back.

But Bella held on, with her fingers latched perfectly and when she bit down, the bear screams echoed through the forest. And it left Jake cold at the site.

This was Bella the vampire, he realized, an efficient predator with no other regard but the prey, the kill and the blood.

The bear collapsed under Bella's teeth. She drank greedily and when she released the creature she released and let out a sigh of utter satisfaction.

This was the monster sated and in its element.

She closed her eyes and took in a breath before she turned her attention back to Jacob. Within a flash she was already back up on the ledge, just a few feet away from him.

Her eyes flickered towards Jacob's expression.

She looked down and realized that her shirt was bathed in blood. A strong wave of shame came over to her. All the joy from earlier had disappeared and he had seen her at her most primal.

Jacob removed his shirt and handed it to her and turned around.

"Thank you," she whispered and dressed quickly.

"Ready?" he asked. His voice was tight.

"Yes," she sounded resigned.

"Then let's get you back. We need to figure out what we're going to do with you," he said.

"What do you mean?" Bella asked.

"Look, I know it's been all fun and games earlier but at the end of the day we can't deny what you are," he said. "You're a predator."

"But—"

"I will give it to you and say that you showed restraint today but at the end of the day, we are who we are." He stopped and paced trying to figure out what he wanted to say to her.

Bella frowned, "Stop pussyfooting and tell me what you are trying to say?"

He took two deep breaths, "You can't stay at my place."

The world felt as though it had shifted on its axis. He was kicking her out. Even though he believed her, even though she showed restraint he didn't want her.

Because I'm a monster at the core, she told herself. Even with everything that's what I've always been.

"So you want me gone?" she concluded.

He said nothing at first, "We'll figure something out."

She shook her head and swallowed down the pain. "No, you made it clear." Her body shook violently as she refused to cry. "I never had a chance. I don't deserve a chance, do I?"

He said nothing.

She couldn't bare it and she rushed away from him, feeling tears roll down in a stream on her cheek.

But Jake had no desire to to let her get away, so he moved quickly and pinned her against a tree.

"Stop," he pleaded. "It came out wrong. It's not that I don't want to help."

"But you're kicking me out," she said.

"It's not like it. Look can you just listen to me before you run off again," he sighed. "Why do you do this to me?" he uttered his frustration.

"What do you mean?" she asked honestly.

"You make me chase you, all the time," he answered.

"You tend to do some pushing, you know," she replied.

"I won't, if you won't run from me," he answered. "I just want to figure this out. I want to help you, but you can't stay at my place."

"Because, I'm dangerous," she noted.

"You're lethal," he said sadly. "And I can't ignore that. I can't ignore that you're—"

"I'm monster," she finished.

"You're not a monster," he replied. "I wasn't going to say that."

"But, isn't it what you said to me before?" she countered. "And you know what you were right. You know before I turned, I remember thinking that I would be a different type of vampire, that I would be an exemplary Cullen. Instead I became the monster that kept other monsters fearing for their existence. I've sucked the life out so many of my own kind that I wonder if there are any left. I've done unforgivable things." She stopped and took a breath. "It is the actions, not the desires that make us monsters. I've bowed down to the demon that lived inside me, for decades. I am indeed its monster."

"I've hunted monsters for nearly a century," Jake began. "I know monsters. And Monsters don't cry," he pointed out and touched her wet cheek, before grabbing her hand and rubbing it gently. "They don't feel remorse. Some of them even take pleasure in the pain but not you. You have felt the weight of every death. And I saw that weight in your eyes when you asked me to kill you."

Bella looked down, all their faces of the dead had begun to blur but she could remember them, every single one of them.

"You were lost but now you're here. You're finding you're way back, back to humanity." Back to me, he wanted to say. "All I'm asking is for us to take precautions."

"You're right, even just a subtle movement and I could kill someone by accident. What if I turn you again and I lose control? I don't want to kill anymore. And I would go mad if something happened to you. But I don't want to leave, either. I don't want to leave you."

Before she could speak again, he pressed his forehead against hers, truly feeling his will to fight against his feelings for her go out into the clouds and away from them.

"I don't want you to leave either," he addmitted. "I've—I've missed you," he finally confessed with so much pain in his voice. "Everyday, for years, I've missed—" he took a deep breath "—everything that was you. And the worst part was I was starting to forget the sound of your voice. And there's no picture that can make up the look of your smile. No recording that can capture the sound of your laughter. All that I had, couldn't barely mirror the memory of you for me. All this time, I thought—" he said nothing but inside his stomach churned at the memory of her in her wedding dress. "—I never stopped thinking about you. Not one day."

Bella's lip quivered, "Oh Jacob, how will you ever be able to forgive what I've done to you."

He pulled her into an embrace and said nothing.

"I was so stupid," she cried. "So foolish."

They were quiet for a beat as he held her.

"I'm so sorry," she whispered again. "Sorry for ruining everything we had and could have had. God, I thought about it so many times…"

"Shhh what did I say about saying sorry," he reminded her.

"Jake…" she began again. "I don't want to leave you."

"Then don't," he replied.

A small warm feeling curled up inside her, for a moment she saw the boy that had rescued her so many times while growing up.

Her eyes shined with true joy at that moment and she moved forward and kissed his cheek and hugged him. As she pulled away their eyes met and their lips followed.

Meanwhile at La Push

"You said she's a Cullen," Dean Uley countered. "I've told you that they are not a threat to us, not really. There's nothing I can do."

"Daaaadd," Sarah whined. "She might be a Cullen but she shouldn't be here."

Dean leaned back in his comfortable chair and took a swig of his hard apple cider. He had had about enough and just wanted to return to watch the game.

"DAD! Are you listening to me?"

Dean groaned. His daughter was going to be the death of him.

"You said it yourself, Jake said she's a friend of his. If he saw her as a threat he would have already killed her. And he has a point, she's protected under the treaty—"

"Well she got into our land so doesn't that break the treaty?"

"He doesn't live on her land," Dean corrected. "Look, I know you are worried because you have a bit of a thing for him. . ."

Sarah huffed.

"I do not," she hissed. "He's just very important to me and I worry. Besides, she's married. It's not like she would be any competition. But still! She has no right to be here. What if the tribe starts to phase again. UGH! I would totally hate if I would have to cut my hair."

Dean lifted a brow at his daughter. If she only knew how much he had wished the gene would have been activated in him.

Growing up, he had loved hearing stories from his grandfather regarding turning into such a strong powerful creature that had full reign of the forest. It was a gift not a curse in his eyes.

"I'm sure she won't stay long," he pointed out. "Besides, like you said she is married."

"DAD YOU'RE NOT LISTENING!" Sarah screamed. "She needs to go. You're the chief, make her go away."

Dean gave her a warning stare.

"I have been listening to you," he said more fiercely as he stood tall and intimidating. "And frankly what I'm hearing is you making a fit like a spoiled five-year-old princess that has nothing better to do than throw herself a pity party. Now, I don't like it that any vampire is in town but if Jake vouches for her then we must respect it."

Sarah looked like she was about to explode and he really didn't want to see one of her teenage breakdowns.

God, why didn't Isa and I just raise dogs instead of kids, he thought.

"Just go to your room and I don't want to hear anything more about this or there will be consequences and I mean no more access to your digital Visa Card consequences."

Sarah stomped her foot and started to walk away from him when suddenly she remembered a very important fact.

"There is one crucial fact I almost forgot to tell you," she said.

"Sarah, I warned you," he began.

"She ain't no golden eyed girl," she answered quickly before she ran into her room.

Meanwhile back to Bella and Jake

To kiss was to commit sin and receive redemption in return.

It was surreal to be back in each others arms.

His arms wrapped around her waist. Her arms wrapped around his neck, taking in the sensation of his soft warm lips.

Her senses pulsed awake. She never felt so alive.

Jakes was facing his own dilemma. The wolf inside him was at war with itself, it wanted to mark her as his own. And yet, it also begged him to stop. It was as what he was doing was something unnatural, surrendering itself to a creature that was barely human.

However, his heart denied every negative thought against her. She was warm in his arms, soft and sweet, she was not stone cold or dead. She was alive it said, alive!

His heart throbbed, her lips were sweeter than warm milk and vanilla.

Any memory of their one and only kiss from nearly a century ago, couldn't compare. Before she had surrendered to him, needed to kiss him, it had been a victory for her to yield to her heart and a later a grand defeat as she had left him for another. But now, now she was willing and craving for him. It made him feel fulfilled and wanted.

He was almost floored when she looked up at him through her long dark lashes that made his knees week. She blinked slowly, with a dreamy look in her eyes and a lopsided smile.

But Jake went from weak knees to disbelieving eyes.

"Jake, are you okay?" she asked.

"You're eyes," he began.

She touched her cheek and looked away.

"Are they pitch black?" she asked, knowing that feeling aroused could cause such a thing.

He shook his head.

"They're…they're hazel."

"My eyes are hazel?" she asked. "I need to see."

She sped back towards the direction of his house before almost slamming into a tree or two.

My vision is only getting shittier, she thought as she slowed down.

Her trail back home was swift as she ran back into the bathroom to take a good look at herself and there staring back at her was a very hazel-eyed Bella that looked a lot like the girl she used to know but not quite the same.

"Holy shit," she said. "Hazel eyes."

For all intent and purposes Bella looked, human but something was still very much a vampire, her dead heart.

She touched her chest as she stared at herself in the mirror. No pulse, just an empty organ with no life. How she was warm or was graced with hazel eyes, baffled her.

What if it's an illusion that you fallen into, a little voice warned. What if you can't turn back? It's just your gift messing with you. What fuckin' cruelty would that be.

She held back the tears. "What's happening to me?"

Then suddenly she tasted blood in her mouth. It tasted bitter.

She felt the venom pull in her mouth and before she knew it she keeled over to the toilet and hurled venom and then…blood; dark red blood that looked almost brown.

"Shit," she groaned before her stomach expelled more venom and blood. She was surprised that she could hold so much as another bucket of blood came out of her.

She heard Jake knock on the door.

"Bella, are you all right?" she heard Jake outside the bathroom door.

"Don't come in here," she said mortified before throwing up again.

The toilet almost reached its top when finally it seemed there was nothing left for her to dispose of.

She leaned back against the tub and pressed her hands to her face. She felt drained. Staring down into her hands, she looked pale and yellow and before Jake demanded for her to open the door, she felt her eyes roll into her head and passed out.

A deep shot of mortification ran through Jake's spine as he opened the door only to find Bella splayed out onto the floor and a toilet filled to the rim with black brown blood.

"Bella! Holy fuck. Sweetie, please, answer me," he cried as picked her up and took her to his bed.

Unlike before, she now felt cold and motionless like a dead woman prepared for her coffin. He swallowed deeply trying to push those thoughts aside.

It's just another phase of her transformation, he told himself. She'll wake up again. She'll wake up. Please wake-up, Bella. Please, please, please don't go again.

The minutes passed into hours and the sun set and rose but nothing, Bella was motionless and Jake couldn't help but wonder if perhaps whatever was happening to Bella had no clean conclusion, perhaps it was not humanity that was the conclusion but death.

It's not fair, he thought. After all this time, this can't be happening not when we have finally…

He didn't finish his thoughts instead he sat on the bed and took her hand in his and pressed it against his beating chest.

"Come back to me, Bella," he whispered. "Come back to me."

A/N: And what do you think Dean Uley will do? Can't wait for the next chapter to find out.
