What If

Worst Day of Her Life (Drinks)

Gabriella was a very lucky girl, lady. A twenty one year old, with a great job, great friends and a great - but secret - boyfriend. But we'll get to that later. (Though you know who that is don't you.)

It was an ordinary Sunday afternoon. She had just stepped out of the shower and wrapped herself in one of her fluffy white towels. She was just about to towel off when a noise sound from outside of the bathroom door. Upon realizing it was her phone she rushed to get it.

"Gabby! Gabby! Gabby! Do you remember how I met Rebound!" asked Tanya, excitedly.

"Yes," answered Gabriella, everyone did she had gone on about it for hours.

"Well I was talking to them on twitter, just, they're in Santa Fe for their concert tomorrow night," said Tanya.

"Which we're going to," said Gabriella.

"Yeah well since I told them I was only an hour away they asked what they could do around this area since there here for three days," said Tanya. "So I've told a few things and said they should get some drinks as well. Which they are going and I causally mentioned how much I want a drink but couldn't cuz it Sunday and there's work tomorrow."

"You don't work," said Gabriella.
"Yeah well anyway they said rally up the ladies and come up," said Tanya.

"You what?" asked Gabriella.

"Get dressed, something nice, we're going having drinks with Rebound," said Tanya.

"I have work in the morning," answered Gabriella.

"Gabriella. It's Rebound you will kill me if I let you miss this," said Tanya.

"Ok, ok," said Gabriella.

Within the hour Gabriella, Tanya, Taylor and Kelsi where on their way up the Canam Highway.

"That's what your wearing?" asked Tanya.

"It's a nice top and jeans. It's Sunday Shar I was all ready to curl up in my pyjamas and catch up on Casualty," muttered Gabriella.

"Oh you and that English soap," groaned Tanya.

"It's good and if I've missed something with Max and Zoe tonight. I won't be happy," said Gabriella.

"Oh please like you haven't read the spoilers already," said Tanya.

"Ok so I know what's going to happen I still have to see it," answered Gabriella, as her phone dinged.

"We should ignore our phones when we're with the boys," said Tanya.

"Err duh!" said the girls.

They were all excited for this meeting. All except Gabriella and why (you know what's coming) her boyfriend - the secret one - was none other than lead singer of Rebound, Troy Bolton. So she had spent multiple days and hours with the band. Of course they girls didn't know this, so she had to play excited and Troy had no idea she was on her way to see him.

As they got streets away from the hotel she began to get nervous and excited at the prospect of seeing her boyfriend again, after six months apart.

They where meeting the band in a semi private lounge but headed to the bar for a shot of courage (vodka) before heading in and Gabriella couldn't get served.

"One more I think," said Tanya.

"Where are we meeting them?" asked Gabriella.
"Um a room of the Low and Slow Lowrider Bar," answered Tanya.

"Isn't this so nice," gushed Kelsi. "I'd love to stay here."
"Hey Gabriella where are you going?" asked Tanya, as Gabriella strode of in the direction of the bar.

"Didn't know she was so excited to see them," said Taylor.

"No. She was acting like she wasn't," muttered Tanya. "Even though we know she loves them."

The girls quickly tossed back their shots and headed after their friend but had to stop at the restroom to freshen up.

Meanwhile Gabriella was already about to enter the room where she could hear the boys laughing in. She took in a deep breath, turned the handle and headed into the room.

"Excuse me this is a p- Gabriella?" came a confused voice.

"You said rally up the ladies. I'm one of the ladies," she answered.

"The one who desperately wants to be curled up in bed watching Casualty," grinned Troy.

"Yes and the one despite her ID cannot get served," she said. "The others are probably only minutes behind me. They went to the other bar for a couple of shots of confidence."

"What do you want?" asked Troy.

"Vodka and coke," answered Gabriella, sinking into a armchair next to the sofa Troy was sat on.

"We have our own waiter," said Troy.

After calling for their waiter and assuring him that yes Gabriella was indeed twenty one he brought her a drink.

"Thank you," she said, then she looked at Troy. "Hi."

"Hey. Why don't you come and sit next to me," he said.

"I can't the girls," said Gabriella.

"Depending on the time you leave or want to leave we've got you rooms on standby," said Troy.

"I'm sleeping with you," said Gabriella. "And leaving at like four am."

"Call in sick," answered Troy.

"I can't. They know I'm seeing you tomorrow night if I call in sick I'll lose my job," answered Gabriella.

"Then lose it and come work for us," said Chad.

"I can't. I can't leave Albuquerque not at the moment," said Gabriella.

"Your dad," whispered Troy.

Gabriella nodded her eyes brimming with tears.

"Come here," whispered Troy.

Her vision blurred and she felt herself being pulled into Troy's embrace as the door opened.

"Wow Gabriella I didn't know you where so excited to see them," said Tanya.

"She was talking about her family," said Chad.

"And?" asked Tanya.

"She's emotional about her dad," answered Chad.

"Oh," answered Tanya, before she sat down not really caring.

Once Troy had released Gabriella, the girls turned to her noticing but not commenting on how Troy kept one of her hands in his.

"So your dad?" asked Taylor.

"He's fine it's just my biggest fear," she answered.

The evening carried on in a joyful tone after that, drinks flowed, though Gabriella and Troy had just a couple.

It was when Gabriella was on the way back from the rest room that her phone rang, Mum. Living on her own now Gabriella didn't need to tell her parents were she was going and when she'd be back and she wasn't in the mood to explain how and why she was having drinks with Rebound over an hour away.

"Hello," she said.

"Gabriella," said her mum, her voice cracking.

"Mum what's?" she asked.

"It's your dad," she answered.

By this time Gabriella was back at the door to the room, her friend were being loud. No one noticed her but Troy.

"Is he?" she whispered.

"Yes," came the answer.

Her face drained of colour and she stood there in shock. Troy had started to stand up but leapt over the coffee table and to her feet as she fell to her knees. A voice came from the end of the phone but Troy was more focused on Gabriella, so he passed Taylor the phone.

"Gabriella," he whispered. "Look at me."

She looked up the tears already pouring.

"My fear, he's gone," she chocked.

He pulled her to him and she sobbed.

"Gabs your mum wants to speak to you," said Taylor, as she came to stand next to them. "I explained where we were and who were with."

Troy took the phone.

"Gabriella," he whispered.

"I can't," she answered.

Troy nodded, she needed him to be her tower of strength, with that in mind he put the phone to his ear.

"Mrs Montez this is Troy Bolton," he said.

"I need to speak to Gabriella," she answered.

"She's in a bit of a state. I doubt she could get a word out," he answered. "I promise I will have her home as fast as I can. No expense spared. I'll look after your daughter."

"I don't know what your intentions are with my daughter but now is defiantly not the time to defile her and take advantage of her emotional state," said her mother.

"Mrs Montez..."

"Mum I can't believe you just said that to him," said Gabriella.

"He said you were in a state," said her mother.

"Yes. I was sobbing," she answered. "Troy is a honourable man and has good intentions and now is not the time for this but," she looked up at Troy. "I've been seeing him for the last three years."

"Just get home as soon as you can we can deal with this all here," said her mother.

"Ok Love you," answered Gabriella, before hanging up. "And he's already defiled me."
"Please tell me your not still on the phone."
"Nope," she answered.

"Ok what is going on?" asked Tanya.

"I'm going home," answered Gabriella.

"I'm going with her," answered Troy.

"What you can't," answered Tanya.

"I can and I will and so will he. My dad's just died," said Gabriella.

"Concert cancelled," said Chad.

Troy nodded. "We can reschedule it sometime, with full refunds."

"Why do you have to go with her?" asked Tanya.

"Troy is my boyfriend," answered Gabriella.

"And she has been there for me for the last three years and when my mother was sick last year," answered Troy. "So I need to be there when she needs me."

True to his word, he got her home, he looked after her and he stayed with her. The concerts were rescheduled. Just three weeks worth, added onto the end of the tour and after the funeral Gabriella take holiday leave and went with him.

Gabriella Somerfield

Ok so that didn't quite go as planned maybe I'll do another Drinks one some time. This one touched though I've no boyfriend and my dad is still alive the fear of him dying is my biggest fear, so I guess this is about me and I did write this as me before changing the names to HSM because I wanted to portray the emotion I felt. Obviously I have no idea how me or my mother would react if my father were to die but I wish I have someone like Troy there when it does but I know, no matter what my friends will be there and my family.

Oh and I would used Sharpay in this but I wanted her to be really bitchy so that is where the OC Tanya character comes in. Just some random girl from work or somewhere who wanted to score with Troy and looked popular with having a few friends around her.
