Flashback

For a very, very long time.

Steve was now crying.

Chin suggested to take a break for a while.

While Steve was cleaning himself up, the rest took a drink from the break room.

Chin took is drink and one extra drink and went straight to Steve's office.

Steve saw chin heading to him, he strained himself and got ready for more.

Chin took a step in the office and he could feel the sadness and betrayal from Steve.

"I'm sorry that I didn't tell you but you have to understand if I told you and Kono was around… she would leave. I know I'm wrong but please forgive me." Chin apologized.

"I know you are but..." Steve sighed. "I'm just... I don't know." Said Steve.

"Confused." Said Chin, completing Steve's thoughts for him.

"I guess.. I don't know, but you know Kono is strong... conformed her with this, she has the right to know, what happened in that house." Said Steve.

Chin wanted to react but he didn't know what to say. Finally, he was saved by Danny and the governor walking in.

"So… Everything ok here?" said Danny after having felt the vibe between Chin and Steve.

"Yeah just a little bit overwhelmed..." said Steve.

"Chin, what happened after the explosion?" Asked the governor.

"Um.. Well. Your father left with you guys after a couple of minutes, while you and Mary Ann still were crying. And after few days there was the funeral and the next day you guys were gone."

Chin eyes showed sadness as they became slightly tearful. "I tried to contact you guys but your cell phones didn't exist and your father just disappeared from HPD database. After months of searching I needed to stop because Kono was getting worse and worse, she felt alone and she cried for days and I saw in her eyes that she missed you and your dad. And I… missed you guys.. a lot. And, Steve, I'm so sorry that I didn't tell you before, I just couldn't do it." Chin said, his voice soft.

"It's ok chin, but I need to ask you, if you could tell me and it was the right time.. would you tell me?" asked Steve.

Chin took a moment to think of his answer.

"I would if I knew that Kono wanted it and if I knew you were ready for it. Yes, I know I'm nobody to decide for you, but nobody can handle this, not even a super SEAL." Said Chin honestly.

Steve took a deep breath.

"Wait, how is it possible that steve didn't recognized kono?" Asked Danny, confusion evident in his tone of voice.

"Because, Danny, it's too long ago and I think Kono couldn't recognize him because she has not thought about this for years. After Steve left, I sent her to High school, the doctor thought it was for the best. When she went there she met people with the same hobbies so she became friends with them. One of them was Charlie, after a while Kono and Charlie became really good friends they were always together talking, surfing... everything. Charlie was one year above Kono so it was still hard for her but Charlie helped her a lot, I couldn't because your father was gone so I had to replace his job. After a few years she completed school and after that she and Charlie where still friends for a year but then Charlie had to go to another state for his college and Kono.. apparently she was playing super ninja behind my back." Said Chin with betrayal and hurt in his eyes.

It was quiet for a while until Steve spoke up.

"I couldn't recognize Kono, it's been almost 20 years… I closed that chapter of my life a long time ago, I only thought about getting Wo Fat in prison and the important things with my farther and, of course, I remember going to you but I forgot what you guys were saying, I guess... So many things happened in those years, I guess I forgot her." Said Steve hesitantly but honestly.

Chin understood this and gave him a small smile but it was honest, confronting and held the sadness he had trouble expressing.. They all were shocked at how things were, even the governor couldn't say anything.

After few moments of taking everything into account, they looked at each other till the governor cleared her throat.

"I'm very sorry about this.. I wish it was in other time you found this out... lie for your own good, excuse me I have to go. I have a meeting tomorrow." Said the governor emotionlessly.

Steve and Chin were angered at how she phrased it and Danny just sat there quietly thinking..

Danny's POV:

How? Why?... I.. I.. do I trust her…

Do I love her like a sister? Danny was thinking all these things and they made him sadder.

Did she lie on purpose or not? I don't know what I should think..

only thing I know is that both Steve and Chin are hurt and I don't know what's worse. The one who wants to spend their lives together and on top of that his childhood friend or the one who raised her…

I know this isn't Kono's fault but, I can't get these thoughts out of my head.

I need to STOP. I need to be there for Chin and Steve.

I wonder how Chin and Steve are doing?

Every time I look at Chin I can almost feel his hurt and Steve... where do I begin?

I know for sure that's he's confused and betrayed like Chin.. funny how one girl can change us.. but this wasn't an ordinary girl, she was special for us.

The way how she lights up the room with her smile or just having her around makes you feel all loved.

She can kick our asses and how we used to joked that she'll kick our asses, or how she tried to win. Actually, we tried. She just won without even trying. (Danny chuckled to his self)

And how we eat masalade together and Steve ranting at us about our unhealthy lives and how she would cheer me up if she sees I didn't get Grace… and how she helped me preparing me for court day. She was more like a friend. I saw her as my sister. She always let me talk while if I was in Steve's hands, he wouldn't. (danny shook his head and lightly chuckled)

After few seconds, Danny stood up. Both the guys looked at him, Danny smiled for support and said,

"I'm heading home.. I need to think. If you guys need anything, just call me and I will be there." Said Danny very gently so as not to hurt them anymore.

After Danny left Chin and Steve remained silent but they looked at each together like they were lost. Chin took this as a sign and said, "Steve, what are we going to do now?" Steve looked at him straight in his eyes and wished he never looked in the man's eyes.
