Chapter 5: Setting a few things straight. pt 1
"...and vanilla with chocolate sauce on top please."
Ash and his Pokémon stood, transfixed as they watched in horrified fascination as Cynthia asked for a fifth scoop of ice cream to be placed atop the four others on her cone. Neither of them could believe that the young blonde would want that much.
The person manning the stand, a young lady a few years older than either of the two teens, looked more than a little shocked at the request but added the scoop and sauce regardless .
Cynthia hummed happily as the lady handed her the finished treat and she began to dig in as the still shocked Ash absently handed the money to pay for their treats, not even paying attention to the price. After that the small group set off for the Pokémon Center.
"Y-You sure like ice cream don't you?" Ash asked a few moments later, watching as Cynthia finished the top of her cone and moved on to the second. His own, single scoop, was only halfway done.
Nodding between licks Cynthia grinned to her new friend. "Yep!" she exclaimed, "its my favorite thing in the world to eat!"
"I can see that," Ash muttered to himself and turning back to his own. The rest of the trip was made in silence as the two teens ate their cold treat.
Ash's three Pokémon walked silently behind them, Deino had regained the ability to walk shortly after they had left the training filed and now joined Gible and Pikachu behind the two humans.
It was only when Cynthia finished the last few bites of her ice cream when conversation stared up again.
"So..." Ash asked trying to think of something to talk about. "How long have you been a trainer?" He'd had a feeling that like him, Cynthia was still a rookie, but he couldn't be too sure about that.
"Not too long. It's only been three days since Professor Rowan gave me my Pokémon." she replied, putting her hand into her jacket pocket and withdrawing a Pokeball, where her sole Pokémon was housed at the moment. "Like I said, I was on my way to train him when I met you and well...yeah." she trailed, the memory of Ash's battle with Gary still fresh.
"I see..." Ash trailed absently, also remembering the battle from a half hour before. Gary had been a little off, he thought, he'd always been arrogant, that much was true; but what could have caused him to challenge someone like that? It wasn't like Gary to be head strong...ok so it was, but Ash hadn't expected his rival to be THAT headstrong. If anything, Ash expected himself to be the one to be that way.
'Times sure have change since we were little.' he thought remembering all the times where Gary was the one to act all calm and collected and he was the brash one. It brought a small smile to Ash's face and he looked up to the sky.
Only, he wasn't expecting to see what he saw.
There, flying high above the city and without any wings was a huge serpentine Pokémon. Its scales were a dark green in color, red tipped spikes; at least they looked like spikes from where he stood on the ground, and yellow ring like patterns dotted the length of the creature's body. But that was as much as Ash could tell as, before his very eyes, the clouds seemed to open up to the creature and it disappeared into them.
Ash stared after the strange Pokémon in complete awe. He had recognized it! But there was no way THAT Pokémon could have been there in Kanto. Not Ra-
Ash was startled out of his shock by a hand shaking his shoulder. Snapping himself back to reality, he looked around to see Cynthia and his three Pokémon around him. Each with a look of concern. Well...Cynthia, Deino and Gible all had it, Pikachu's was mostly indifferent, but held the slightest bit of curiosity.
"Huh?" Ash asked, looking to the blonde in confusion.
"I asked if you were alright." Cynthia told him. "You just stopped all of a sudden and stared up at the sky."
"O-Oh," was the unintelligent response from the raven haired boy, "yeah, I'm fine." he said. Cynthia didn't look too sure, but she nodded and resumed walking.
From there the group continued their trek in silence. Ash was too busy thinking of the Pokémon he'd seen in the sky just now, and Cynthia was concerned for her new friend.
As she licked at the five scoops of ice cream on her cone, Cynthia couldn't help but think on what had just happened. Ash had completely stopped walking once he had looked up to the sky and his face had taken on a look of mixed awe and shock. Cynthia had tried following his gaze but had been unable to find any reason for it. All she had seen was the clouds closing in on themselves. It made her wonder; what had Ash seen to cause his reaction? She knew she didn't know him very well, having just met him a few hours before hand, but she somehow knew that Ash wouldn't normally react like that without a good reason.
So why had he?
"so what Pokémon did you get?" Ash asked, trying to distract himself from his thoughts on what he thought had been a very odd trick of the light. He was certain it had to have been, that particular Pokémon was a native of Hoenn.
Cynthia grinned at him, "would you like to see?" she asked holding up the ball in her hand. She was sure it would be a surprise to him, all things considered.
"Ok," Ash grinned as he and the three other Pokémon behind him leaned in, their expression pure curiosity.
"Come on out," Cynthia called happily, finally able to call out her Pokémon for the first time since coming to Kanto. The Pokémon that appeared greatly shocked not just Ash, but Gible as well. For the most experienced of Ash's Pokémon it was like looking into the mirror of herself as Cynthia's companion materialized in front of her. The only difference of this Gible however, was the notch in its dorsal fin, letting her know that her lookalike was male rather than another female.
Cynthia smiled at Ash's and his Gible's mirrored looks of shock. As a matter of fact, all three of his Pokémon had the same expression, but Cynthia was more focused on the other human and his starter.
Ash seemed to recover quickly though. "Well…that's certainly a surprise," he muttered. Cynthia grinned and nodded. "Ash, meet my Gible." She introduced turning and kneeling to her own starter. "Hey there buddy, sorry I couldn't let you out until now, but I'd like you to meet a few friends. Ash and his Pokémon."
The Gible looked past his trainer timidly to the group behind her. What he didn't expect however was for another of his species to come within a few inches of his own face.
"Gi Gible, Gible!" she exclaimed excitedly, startling him.
Ash chuckled at his starter's excitement as the male Gible's face reddened at the sudden closeness and shyly started conversing with her.
"At least they're getting along." He sighed, glancing back at his two remaining Pokémon. Deino was doing his best not to glare at Pikachu while smiling at the new arrival while Pikachu was hiding not such attempts of his glare. Ash sighed again.
Cynthia giggled at the sight and went to speak, but before she could she sensed something quickly running up behind her and side stepped the brown missile that surely would have collided with her had she not. Ash however, was not so lucky as the human rocket crashed into him and began squeezing the life out of him.
"There you are big sister, I've been looking for you forever now!" the missile exclaimed, very loudly as Ash struggled to breath.
Cynthia had to admit, the sight was hilarious as she watched, but when Ash began turning blue she decided to free him.
"would you let go of Ash, Nina? I think he's having a hard time breathing."
END!
