"Hmph!" Alex let out a sigh and flopped down on the couch. She threw her phone against the cushion, making it bounce off and hit the floor. She looked around, seeing no one's noticing her, she stood up and repeated her action.

Sam rolled her eyes at her childish friend. "What's wrong, Alex?" Sam asked nonchalantly.

"Martin! He has to go somewhere with his family so he can't make it tonight!" Alex groused.

It was Valentine's Day and Martin and Alex were planning to go to the cinema at 7.

"Oh, that's harsh." Sam's gaze was back to her book.

"Guess I'm going to spend my Valentine's Day at home with you." Alex whined

"Hey! What makes you think I'm spending Valentine's day at home?" Sam raised her voice defensively.

Alex sat up, apologetically. "I'm sorry, do you have any plans?"

"No." Sam said stubbornly. "But that doesn't mean you can make assumptions."

At the stairs, Clover was skipping happily to her two best friends while whistling.

"You seem awfully happy." Sam commented.

"That's because I am! Valentine's day with the major hot quarterback, Cory something, at the fanciest, classiest, 'bestest' restaurant!" Clover exclaimed.

Sam and Alex looked at her with jealousy and hatred. They both turned to the TV and ignored Clover rambling on about her date.

Clover stopped, suddenly realizing that no one's listening. "Guys?" She turned her head to her friends. "Hello?"

"Well, hope you have fun." Alex waved the remote up in the air and Sam followed.

"Okay…" Clover grabbed her purse and headed to the door. "You can eat all the ice cream if you're lonely-hungry! I mean hungry." She left the house.

"Can you believe her?" Sam turned to Alex.

"Urgh." Alex crossed her arms and grumbled.

The girls sat there quietly for a while.

"So…ice cream?" Sam spoke up.

"Yeah!' Alex ran to get the ice cream.

-15 minutes later-

Sam dug her spoon into the ice cream.

"Why would I be mad? Like sure, it's Valentine's Day but there's more to it than going out on dates right?" Sam rambled on.

"Totally, like…" Alex tried to come up with a fun activity.

"Watching TV or eating ice cream." Sam had another huge scoop of ice cream. "Totally not jealous"

-15 minutes later-

Sam swirled the half empty ice cream carton around. "I mean so what if we're 10% jealous, it doesn't matter. We don't care if Clover's on a date with a quarterback."

"Yeah, I mean Martin just texted me." Alex read out the message on her phone. "Can't talk now, on the plane, talk to you later. Bye! With 5 exclamation points. That's true love, right there!"

"Exactly."

-15 minutes later-

"I hate this." Alex threw the empty carton across the table. Sam grabbed her by the hand.

"Hey,hey. You're mad but don't litter."

"Sorry…" Alex picked up the carton. "It's just Clover's out on a date and what have we done besides finishing a carton of ice cream?"

"I hate her." Sam sighed even though she didn't mean it. The ice cream has gotten into her brain.

"So I'm guessing there won't be space for me then" They heard a voice in the back and turned their heads around. Behind them, Clover was standing with a plastic bag in her hand.

"Clover? What are you doing here?" Alex asked.

"Shouldn't you be on a date with the 'major hot quarterback'?" Sam raised her eyebrow.

Clover climbed over the couch and snuggled her way in between her two best friends.
"Major hot quarterback? More like major slob douche bag. He came in late and the first thing he said was I forgot to bring my wallet."

Sam and Alex threw their heads back laughing.

"I guess you can join us but we don't have any ice cream left." Alex said.

Clover held up the plastic bag. "I know. That's why I bought more."

"And that's why we're friends." Alex put her arm around Clover and the three of them spent their Valentine watching rom-com and eating ice cream, of course.
